Yes, the Browns have a semi-plausible path to the playoffs

AP

The Cleveland Browns are back. And they go could farther than anyone ever would have imagined.

Sure, they’re laying the foundation for a special 2019. But 2018 still has a chance to be special, because the Browns can still win the AFC North.

Seriously. They can. If Cleveland beats the Bengals next week, if the Steelers lose to the Patriots and Saints, and if the Ravens lose to either the Buccaneers tomorrow or the Chargers next Saturday night, the division will be divided on the final Sunday of the season.

And here’s how it would go: If the Steelers beat the Bengals, the Steelers win the division. If the Steelers lose to the Bengals, the winner of Browns at Ravens wins the AFC North.

The odds remain against the Browns. But for the Browns to even have a semi-plausible chance to get to the playoffs at this point is nothing short of amazing.

If they fail to make it, there will be plenty of regret over some close calls and near misses in the first few weeks of the season. The tie against Pittsburgh. The missed-kick-induced loss to the Saints. The overtime loss to the Raiders. But save the regret for now; the Browns still have a chance to go from winless to winning a division.

  1. Goodells priorities
    1. Be sure patriots get #1 seed
    2. Be sure patriots get #1 seed
    3. Be sure patruots get #1 seed
    32. Allow Brown’s to make playoffs

  2. Seems like just yesterday when Belichick allowed and began the downward spiral of the Browns. Good job Bill. I guess that’s why you were fired from the Browns as their worst head coach ever at the time.

  3. Even if the Browns don’t make the playoffs; even with all the ‘might have beens’ mentioned; the Browns now have nothing to be ashamed of this season. They’ve made it to respectability at last, and that’s something to be very proud of.

  4. As a Raiders fan, they should’ve had the W against us. Absolutely no question. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Browns, but now that they are thriving without Hue “Irish Coffee ManiPeddy” Jackson, this redemption arc just became that much sweeter. Screw it, Go Browns!

  5. I couldn’t be happier for the Browns. This NFC North fan just might be a closet Browns fan and previous posts verify that. The Dog Pound fans are the best in the AFC. Everything aside, The Browns gave up on the fans, AND MOVED! The fans never gave up on the Browns.
Good luck, I hope you win out, and get the help needed to win the division…
Just PLEASE change uniforms back from the neon reddish Browns to the old school colors. Alsi if they fire this coach they need to have their heads examined.

  6. Gregg Williams is coaching for likely the only shot at a head coaching job he’ll ever get. Considering the improvement in the Browns play since they gave Hue the ol’ heave-ho, he might get it even if they don’t make the play-offs.

  7. Having any chance at all is amazing but I am just happy that they are fun to watch again! We can actually manufacture a win when we don’t have our “A” game! And in spite of a dumb call by Williams not to take field goal.

  8. All I can say is go Cleveland…many people from Oklahoma are now fans of Cleveland…wish you the best…go Baker…prove to the world that you can make it…and help Cleveland along the way to glory once more…

Pretty sure Bellichick took over a 3 win Browns team and made them the last Ohio NFL team to win a playoff game to this day before getting fired when the team moved to Baltimore that lead to the Ravens being terrible for half a decade without him while the Patriots went on to have a dynasty.

  10. If God gave me a one time wish, it would be a Browns Super Bowl.. You fans deserve it..
I’d love to share a chili dog or Polish Dog and Bud Lite from your tailgate party…
    1…2..3.GO BROWNS!
