Tom Brady: No surprise about early exit from game

Getty Images

The Patriots were up by 18 points when they got the ball on Buffalo’s 33-yard-line after a blocked punt with 6:39 left to play in Sunday’s game and that seemed like a prime opportunity for the starting offense to erase any doubt about the final outcome.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick elected to send quarterback Brian Hoyer into the game, however, and the Patriots handed the ball back on downs. Hoyer would play one more series before the 24-12 win was in the books.

Belichick said he “thought that was the right thing to do” when asked about pulling Tom Brady at that point and that the passing game “could be better” than it was on Sunday. Brady went 13-of-24 for 126 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

After the game, Tom Brady said no when he was asked if he was surprised by the decision to go with Hoyer at that point. He also said that he’s not injured.

“I feel great. I feel 100 percent,” Brady said at his press conference.

Belichick also said he has a lot of confidence in Brady heading into the final week of the regular season. New England will face the Jets and a win will guarantee them a bye to open the postseason.

  1. Pats were up 3 scores, with 6:39 left, with the ball, on Buffalo’s 33. What’s the mystery here?

  2. D….O……N…..E ! If the bills weren’t so inept they would have won by 20 and any Patsies fan boy knows it

    Really based on what

The Bills have the # 1 total D
And the Patriots won at the line and rushed for almost 300 yards on them.

    Keep dreaming CRYBABY

  4. Another playoff bye handed to the Patsies. If they played in a real division they might have one Superbowl ring, but the rest of it is just being handed advantage after advantage, year after year. A lot of teams could have made the same mark the Patsies have if they were handed six automatic wins a year, a playoff bye, and most years home field advantage. It just gets old. A high school team could’ve beaten the Bills today. It’s a joke, and they still have to cheat?

    Yes the lame division excuse

    They also beat
    The
    Chiefs
    Colts
    Minnesota
    Bears
All playoff or potential playoff teams
    And all have winning records
Did they get moved to the AFC east too?

Maybe they should move the Patriots to the tough AFC north

Oh wait. They are 27-6 vs that division since 2001

What other lame excuses do you have.

  6. I can’t wait for the so called goat(sheep0 to retire. Pats fans will remember what it was like in the 80’s when their team sucked like the Bills do now. Didn’t the Bills own them in the late 80′ and early 90’s.

  7. Pats often have run heavy game plans in December. They Bills have a very good D and the Pats Oline pushed them around all day. No need to pass as much when you have 273 yards on the ground or whatever it was

And yet the Patriots have rarely won all 6 division games in any season….including this one. But just for the record, what is your team’s record against the Patriots since 2001?

This is sad. You think the Patriots can’t find a QB better than Josh Allen after Brady retires?

  10. @Flash1287, you’re cherry-picking a storyline that fits your weak rebuttal to my fact-based argument against the Patriots being anything more than an average team over the years. But, nice try. You’d make a swell fake news journalist.

He will soon have to bring his walker or wheelchair out there. The egomaniac didn’t want belicheat to trade jimmy because he thinks he can play forever.

Considering Jimmy Glass can’t stay healthy, I think Brady did Bill a favor (assuming the story is true) forcing out a guy who would get paid 28 mill a year to sit on IR.

Tell me what’s “cherry picking “

The Patriots have almost the exact same win % OUTSIDE the division since 2001.

    Those are facts.
They have also played a first place schedule every year.

The FACT that they have almost the same win % OUTSIDE the division is even more impressive since they play more games outside the division

    All FACTS.

for you to say they have been “ anything more than average “ shows you ignorance and jealousy.

The only way your lame argument would have any merit is if they went 6-0 in the division every year and won 4 or 5 games outside like the colts a few years back. But that’s not the case

    Again those are the”facts”

LOL…. nice to know an AVERAGE TEAM as you call it can not only make it to 8 Superbowls let alone win 5 of them……do you see how foolish you sound??!!
The Patriots win percentage outside the AFC EAST is nearly identical to every division they play against….
They play outside in harsh conditions & lose players & coaches like crazy to other teams & just keep rolling year after year after year….if you could set aside all that jealousy & envy you suffer from, you’d realize you are witnessing GREATNESS UNFOLD BEFORE YOUR TEAR FILLED EYES….

  14. @Flash1287, the Patriots lost their previous two games (because they are just not very good). Fortunately, for them, their season was completed in week 15 as they are handed two automatic wins in weeks 16 and 17 against the Bills and the Jets. If their final two games were competitive, they would likely lose which would render them a wildcard road team without a bye. Big difference between being a wildcard road team versus having a bye AND home-field advantage handed to you YEAR AFTER YEAR.

What’s sad is that Buffalo fans always go back to that 4-6 years when the Bills were good. Seem to forget the stunk before and after.

Bills are still looking for a QB to replace Kelly, it’s only been 20+ years.

  16. Why don’t you haters petition the NFL to put the Patriots in YOUR division? You’d just love that wouldn’t you? And oh…. the gimpy, old GOAT is much better that the other pretender GOATs. Where is the GOAT Aaron Rodgers ‘ team now? Anymore GOATs you care to put beside Brady? Even if Brady plays well below his norm he still drags his team to the top. They run the East 10 STRAIGHT years. Chew on that especially if you think your team’s QB is better than Brady.

Again you are ignoring the FACT that they beat

    The
    Chiefs
    Colts
    Minnesota
    Bears
So what’s your excuse for that.

The Patriots have beaten MORE teams with a winning record this years than ANY team in the NFL.
Heres another FACT for you. The Patriots SOV ( strength of victory)this season is 539%
That’s NUMBER ONE in the NFL this season.
The second place team is the Saints at 489%

And if you think they lost to Miami because they are not very good and NOT because of some fluke once in a life time play your crazy

  18. Sorry add the Texans to that.

    So that’s the
    Chiefs at 11–3
    Texans at 10-5
    Bears at 11-4
    Colts at 9-6
    Minnesota at 8-6

Those are the teams they beat OUTSIDE the division
That’s more win vs teams with winning records than ANY team this season.

  19. @Flash1287, the decision to play Gronk as safety was not a fluke, it was a stupid move. But I do owe Belichick a debt of gratitude for that move, as it was absolutely the most hilarious attempt at a tackle I have ever seen. That was such a good laugh.

Our level? Tell us fanboy, how have you directly contributed to the success of the Patriots? Is it because you bought a t-shirt, watch them on tv, have a Brady poster above your be? What? Why is your level superior to any other fans level when it comes to the NFL. Tick tock you’re on the clock.

    —————————
Because that story isn’t juicy enough for those who are desperate for something juicy.

  28. The Patriots were up three scores and had been running the ball on the Bills all afternoon. In that situation, it made sense to just keep running, so why not put in Hoyer. I don’t know why anybody thinks there’s some big secret here, like that Brady was injured. No evidence for that whatsoever.

  29. Because if a coach sticks with a running game thats over 250 yards alreay and doing pretty much anything it wants that can only mean he things the QB is declining.

  30. “Fan boy” how lame is that.

Here’s a question. IF you are NOT a Patriots fan why are you on every Patriots related article?

I would rather be a “fan boy” than a jealous loser.

  33. When will the Colts fold? It’s really embarrassing that a limp wrist sissy team and wussie fans like that are allowed to be in professional football.

    Fold them now.

  34. We Patriots fans know that buying new shirts helps the Patriots.Look at all the money it brings in.We have to buy SBchampions,AFCchampions,AFCEASTchampions and then the hats, thats millions upon millions of dollars. That does not include the “regular”shirts we buy like you do.I heard that all that money bought two jet airliners with new paint jobs and renovated the stadium.Yours bought a hot dog cart(slightly used).
