Case Keenum: No one likes losing, we want to win for Vance Joseph

The Broncos’ season has rapidly gone south, and with it the futures of coach Vance Joseph and quarterback Case Keenum. Joseph appears certain to be fired, and Keenum likely won’t be back as the starting quarterback next season. Keenum is, unsurprisingly, unhappy about that.

Keenum said after Monday night’s loss to the Raiders that everyone on the Broncos wants to win to save Joseph’s job, but it’s just not working out.

“Nobody likes not winning, we all hate it,” Keenum said, via ESPN. “We want all want to play hard, we all want to win for coach Joseph, we all love him, he’s an incredible human and a great football coach. I want to play hard for him, for every guy in that locker room. That’s big a part of our team, our identity, that we all stick together, love, like and respect each other, that we all fight for each other. But it’s a production league, when you’re not winning, it’s tough.’’

It has been a tough year in Denver. And a year that will result in significant changes, which will start next week.

  1. What’s Elway up to now? 3 HCs in 5 years? If he keeps firing HCs the Broncos will only keep getting worse. At some point you have to give a HC a chance, say 3 years minimum. I think the bigger problem is Elway himself, failing to have found Joseph a HC he can grow with over 5+ years. It’s all about getting the right QB and keeping a system together for a decade.

  2. Please be sure to FIRE the strength and conditioning coach too. Saw some YouTube stuff he put out…..oh boy! Too many injuries! I see Demaryius Thomas is in Houston on IR now. #hirerealfootballpeople.

  3. That’s alright Case. We appreciate you guys letting the Raiders win that meaningless game so everyone could get the fake feels about them moving…for the SECOND time. Nothing like having a city bellyaching and those loyal fans who didn’t want to pony up for a new stadium show up to be sad. Browns, Rams, Chargers, their cities thought they were bluffing too. Tell you what though, Cleveland suddenly found a way to build a stadium when the owner walked. Taxes suck, but losing your team sucks more. Should’ve built that palace, Vegas did.

  4. Joseph lost the locker room. In addition he’s made some strange, ineffective calls that lead directly to a number of losses. This is a full blown rebuild.

  5. Broncos should of drafted a QB in the 2018 NFL Draft. Next season Keenum will be gone, the 2018 first round QB’s will be going into their 2nd year of development and Denver will still be looking for a QB. Elway has really mismanaged the Bronco’s QB room in a big way.

  6. I saw a team last night that wanted to the coach to get fired. If Keenum’s play last night was a 100 percent effort in trying to save the coaches job. He needs to be released today.

Eli Manning is OK with losing.

    †***********************

And apparently Redlikethepig is OK with posting irrelevant posts that have nothing to do with the article?

  8. That Broncos team wins as unprepared as any time I’ve ever seen over the last 40 years.

    That’s on the HC.

  9. Eh. Vance was just a figure head. He didn’t have much power anyway. That being said, at the very least, all coaches need a good, solid QB. Especially first time head coaches.

Elway failed Vance in that department. Vance will be the fall guy but, Elway should shoulder some of the blame as well.

  10. Saying the right thing…. but TOTALLY the opposite appears on the field.

That could not have been a worse prepared or played game for the Bronco’s.

Season 1 mistakes… mind blowing brain dead mistakes and penalties… Keenam and the O was atrocious… horrid…

Just really bad football all around. They made the last ranked Oakland D look like a Superbowl contender

  11. Hard to call someone a “great coach” when they took a 9-7 team to 5-11 in his first year, and then in his 2nd will be lucky to get a single game improvement.

I think fondly of Keenum every time Cousins throws a 30 yd laser to one of my Vikings and hits him between the numbers.
    —————
Yeah, well it’s not too fond watching Cousins turn the ball over 17 times.
Hopefully, he has zero on Sunday but he could hit 20.

  13. Elway needs to hire an Alpha and not another Beta Cuck as a HC. If I were him, I’d make a serious run at Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a GREAT change agent. He could have the Broncos back in the Super Bowl in three years. Long term is another story.

  14. can’t win when those coaching can’t coach…..

    vj ain’t a coach….period

musgrave couldn’t coach his way out of wet paper bag

    woods….ain’t a leader

  15. “And apparently Redlikethepig is OK with posting irrelevant posts that have nothing to do with the article?”

    You too apparently.

  16. Yeah as really think Joseph is out of there. And really wish him well. But really it is time for an overhaul. Case a great QB but did not thrive in Joseph’s system IMHO!

  17. Cousins had weapons to throw to. Who does keenum have to throw to? And keenum played against one of the toughest schedules while cousins had one of the easiest schedules. Put cousins on the broncos and he wouldn’t have won 4 games. Can believe how dumb and blind most people are. With all that said, cousins is having an awful year. From 13-3 and an nfc championship game to 8-7-1 and missing the playoffs. But go ahead and pretentend like cousins is having a great year. Delusional fanboys.

  18. Elway does not want to look in the mirror, he just wants to point fingers. Just wait until next year, when Von Millers back loaded deal goes from 10 million this year, to 25 million per on the cap the next few years. He will be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL next year, and also top ten (all others are qb) in cap hit. On nthe other hand Derek Carr goes from # 2 in cap hit this year at $25 million, and drops all the way down to #16 next year. …Thank you Reggie for doing it right.

  19. Keenum has 3 rookies as his top 3 wrs, 2 rookies as his top te’s, a rookie as his rb, 3 rookies on the oline. But let’s blame keenum and Joseph. These guys were set up to fail from the beginning. If anyone is at fault for this “team”, it’s john Elway. He’s the gm and he’s the one that ruined this team. Elway should be fired for sabotage. Worst gm in football.

At the start of season we were told that Den WR’s of DT, Sanders, Sutton and the rest were better than MN’s WR’s. Denver had a more explosive and consistent running game. If you go to teamrankings you can find strength of schedule, both clubs were middle of the pack (D 16, M 18). I would argue going to LAR on short week, travel from NE to SEA late in season made MN’s mediocre schedule a little tougher.

As I said earlier after watching Case last year, he isn’t a QB that is going to win a team a game, he is a good manager, strong locker room guy, and has solid leadership qualities. Two very different styles of QB’s, as a Vikings fan I’m more than happy with cousins, and thankful for what Case did for our team last year. The funny part is most say Elway is the problem, but then think he made the right choice on signing Case? All I know for fact is when looking at decisions the front office of the three teams involved in the QB saga MN, Was, Den… I trust the MN front office the most. You can’t make Judgements after one year so time will tell, but after year one, only one of those teams has something to play for next week.

  21. The problem is Elway. He can’t draft or evaluate a QB which is ironic given Elway is a HOF QB. You are not going to win a lot in this league without a QB.

  22. Cousins scored zero points against the seahawks in a must win game until he scored a garbage time td when the game was over. That’s the cousins we all know. You better hope your mediocre qb shows up against the bears. LoL. Have fun watching the vikings choke as usual.

  23. Elway must go due to his incompetence:
    Bungled Deals: Osweiler, Dumervil, …

    Wasted draft picks:
    1st Paxton Lynch
    3rd Carlos Henderson
    2nd Ty Sambrailo
    2nd Montee Ball
    2nd Brock Osweiler

Nobody has hurt the Broncos more, he has got to go!

  24. The Vance Joseph hire was a head scratcher from day 1, and has turned out exactly as most predicted.

The decision to pursue Keenum was even worse, and that too has turned out as expected.

Other than Elway, who thought either of these were smart moves?

That Seattle game finally got DeFilippo fired. The two games after that Cousins has 568 yds, 5 tds, 1 int and an average 133.3 QBR.

  26. The dumpster fire we all know as the Broncos is the sole responsibility of Elway. He’s finding out it’s much harder to build a dynasty through the draft and claiming talent that no one else saw, than paying aging superstars under the table to skirt the salary cap. Denver will stay at the bottom of the AFC West until Horseface is told to pack his things.

  27. The reason they are losing is they are delusional if they win for Joseph. Fix the losing problem with one swift move.

Look. I am a die hard Vikings fan.
The last two weeks were Miami and Detroit.

I wouldn’t be talking Cousins up on those two games.
If Cousins can have that kind of game against the Bears, I will start to join you.

  29. I’m a lifelong Broncos fan and John Elway is football Jesus to nearly all Broncos fans…as a player. As a GM, I’m losing patience with him. The Broncos don’t have a young QB prospect to develop. That’s downright frightening. As of now the whole organization is reliant on Case Keenum being an elite QB, which is a terrible plan. Elway has struck out over and over on QBs and can’t seem to find a franchise QB. I’m not even asking for a Brady/Brees/Rodgers elite talent. At this point, I’d take a Newton/Ryan/Stafford level franchise QB. I’m giving Elway 2 more drafts and free agency periods to find a QB before I jump on the “fire Elway” train.

I wonder how things would have turned out if Cousins had gone to Denver and Keenum had stayed in Minnesota.

    ——————————————————
I haven’t watched enough Broncos games to speak intelligently on cousins in Denver, however as a Vikings fan my best guess is Vikings are 5-6 win team with Case at the helm this year. I think Shurmur had a lot to do with Case being great in 2017. Our D struggled to start the season (first 4 games) but since has rounded into shape. I liked the JDF hire at the time, but either he didn’t know how to use the talent he had, or was just to smart for his own good, but the bottom line is Stephanski seems to be playing to his players strengths and the offense isn’t as predictable in the last couple weeks. I get it Mia is bad on the road, but Det D has played well as of late, and at home a good portion of the year. This week we will see what this O is made of against a very good D.
