Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio isn’t permitted to interview for head coaching openings until after the Bears face the Eagles in the playoffs on Sunday and he won’t be waiting long to speak to interested teams once eligible.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Fangio is expected to interview with the Broncos and Dolphins next Monday. Both teams requested permission to speak to Fangio after firing their head coaches on December 31.

Fangio has never been a head coach, but he has over two decades of experience as a coordinator under a variety of head coaches and has had his name come up with openings a few times in recent years.

The Dolphins have also reached out to Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Munchak is also on the radar in Denver along with Colts coach Chuck Pagano, Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor and Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores.

  1. Bears fan here and while Vic has more than earned these opportunities I also hope he realizes he has a chance to experience something special if he stays the course with Nagy. I trust Ryan Pace to have a contingency plan in place if Vic leaves but really hope he doesn’t have to use it.

  2. Guys with real ability usually don’t take 20 years to be found. As a Viking fan, Zimmer is showing every day why he wasn’t desirable, and although I hope Fangio gets his shot, it’s taken this long for a reason.
Gase got a shot on Manning’s coat tails, Denny Green made 20 mill off Moss, Childress got 15 mill from Favre, and now Fangio is getting paid from Mack.

Picking a good coach must be hard, because you have to separate the coaching from the talent and then see if the coaching improves anything. what young McVay is doing is mind blowing, as he looked like a Lane Kiffin clone to me.

  3. Success has it rewards. And drawbacks. Hope you stay with us Mr. Vic, but I figure everyone wants their shot, and you sure earned yours.

Doubt you’ll need it, but best of luck either way!

  4. Broncos are perfect for him. RaiderFan be afraid, be very afraid.

If Lord Fangio gers his hands on Von Miller and Chiubb???? It’s curtains for the AFC West.

  5. He has really turned around the Bears defense, if you remember it being the worst in the NFL from the Trestman days. (Also helps for the GM to acquire legit players) He has more than earned a HC job, but he’s unpolished in front of the cameras. In Chicago, that’s a plus. It might not be in other places.

  6. Who would want to go to Denver and work for horse teeth Elway, YUCK!! That fan base is so annoying too! Denver is a road to failure!
