Dwayne Haskins said he’s “hoping” to land with Giants

Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins declared for the 2019 NFL Draft yesterday, but he may have declared a preference in destination already.

In a profile of Haskins by Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune in December, it was mentioned to Haskins that the Giants needed a quarterback and might be a good place to start his career.

Haskins, who grew up in New Jersey, replied: “I’m hoping for that too.”

(Of course, he’ll circle back later and say it will be an honor to be chosen by any team, but it’s worth filing this one away.)

While Haskins is widely considered the top quarterback prospect in this draft, the idea of slipping to the sixth overall pick isn’t farfetched.

The teams with the top five picks (Cardinals, 49ers, Jets, Raiders, Buccaneers) either have quarterbacks in place or have made recent investments at the position which could preclude another choice.

The Giants need is clear, as the 38-year-old Eli Manning is unsure about his future. Even if he were to come back for a year, having a talented player such as Haskins behind him would be a perfect situation for the Giants.

If Haskins gets that far.

  1. Having Darnold behind him would’ve been even better, but back in April Gettleman said Eli has several good years remaining.

  2. Giants only have to worry about Jax in the draft but should land him but you never know things play out. Giants don’t have a third round pic so I doubt they move up and lose more pics . Giants got there star on offense now they need their star on de .I love Wilkins at their pic he is the captain of Clemson’s de and was unstoppable last night .That would be a great hog molly for Gettleman.

  3. It’s funny i see a few comments trashing him like he hasn’t broken records and wasn’t in the Heisman discussion. Must be a black thing. But ANYHOO the Giants just simply have to do something NOW while their stars on offense are young. Unless they shoot for Foles or take a BIG chance on the 26 year old Bridgewater. It wpuld seem that someone would trade up in front of the Giants to get him but at the same time he has started 1 year and needs time. So at number 6 seems like an ok spot.

Darnold isn’t special. This foolish narrative needs to die already.

  5. He will not be there at 6. Better figure out how to trade up to 1 or 2 to get him. Either the Cards are going to move out of 1st or they stay put and take Bosa, which means the Niners are going to move out of the second spot. Either way I see Haskins being gone by #2.

Wrong. Not a black thing. An Urban Meyer QB thing. Think Alex Smith. Will likely be effective eventually in the NFL but have a steep learning curve from the Urban Meyer Spread Offense.

And, the Giants or any team in the NFC East needs to keep their grubby paws off of Nick Foles. Let’s not taint St. Nick’s legacy.

  7. Giants should take best defensive player (or o-line) available at #6 and take this guy with their second rounder. If he’s gone by then, take best defensive player (or o-line) available again.

He’s not worth the #6 overall pick let alone #1 or #2. Giants will stay put and take the best player available at #6.

  9. He’s not that good. Immobile. Big arm. Think Demarcus Russell. Cardale Jones. How did those guys work out in the pros…

  10. His Accuracy is on point as a Buckeye fan I don’t want to see him in NY with that shaky Line. Nor in Jacksonville with zero weapons.nBut he had to go somewhere OBJ and Saquon offers the best of 2 evils

  11. He’s nothing like Jamarcus Russell or Cardale Jones, it must definitely be a black thing. Much more accurate, much more calculated, way better mechanics, reads defenses tremendously. Yes, he does have a massive arm, but that’s about all that’s comparable.

  12. Too many good players to chose from at number 6 ,Giants need to sit back and take the best player.

    HASKINS

    WILLIAMS(cb) LSU
    WILKINS (DE LINE )CLEMSON
    WILLIAMS O LINE ALABAMA

  13. Too bad the Giants don’t want Haskins.

Gettleman would never have a high draft grade on this System QB Fraud.

  14. Haskins needs to sit a year and learn from Eli and then he will really do well.If you throw him in the fire 🔥 he will struggle and won’t help the cause.
