The Green Bay Packers are going to hire Alvis Whitted as their new wide receivers coach, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Whitted comes to the Packers from Colorado State University where he’s coached wide receivers for the past seven seasons under Mike Bobo and Jim McElwain. Before Colorado State, he spent one year as an offensive quality control coach at UCLA.

Whitted played nine seasons in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders. He appeared in 123 career games with 24 starts, recording 74 receptions for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns.

Cleveland Browns receiver Rashard Higgins and Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup both played under Whitted at Colorado State.

  1. Fits into things LaFleur has said he finds very important:

“He builds personal relationships with every player and learns how to push each to be the best they can be. He’s genuine and I think that’s why he gets the most out of his players”

Whitted, 44, said he got into coaching to give back to those who taught him to be a better player and a better man. Teachers, coaches and NFL players he played with, like Keenan McCardell and Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, who took him under their wings.

CSU is one of only two schools in the country to have two finalists for the Biletnikoff award(Outstanding Receiver in College Football) in the last 4 seasons.

Good family man with his wife Tracy and young daughter Remy. I like that LaFleur sees value in that in a person.

    Alvis Witted:

“I always look at every scenario, every opportunity; is it going to be better for my family? Is it going to be better for my wife and daughter? Is it going to be better for me? Are there going to be people around me to help me grow as a person?”

“I made a good life for myself and my family just because I knew I had a great love for the game, and I want to show these players that, hey if you go about things the right way, you can make a good life for yourself and use football as a means to an end”

That’s the best the packers can do? A college quality control coach to be their WR coach?

He’s coached wide receivers the past seven seasons smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

  4. So the best the Packers can do is hire a career college coach who wasn’t able to even get a look from a Power 5 school . Guess you have to pinch pennies on coaches when your roster has more holes then swiss cheese forcing you to overpay players like Jimmy Graham .

    ________

Not only that, both Higgins and Gallup were Biletnikoff finalists. Both were not highly recruited and Whitted did a great job coaching them into NFL caliber WRs. Good hire for the Packers.

  7. Preston Williams is another CSU star that was coached by Whitted and is in the 2019 draft.

Preston Williams transferred to CSU and had a break out season in 2018 under the coaching of Whitted.

There was one other Packer named Alvis and he is in the NFL Hall Of Fame.
