Mark Davis “not frustrated,” hopes to remain in Bay Area in 2019

There’s been no announcement about where the Raiders will play their home games in 2019, but the last few days have brought several reports about what might be in the works.

A report over the weekend indicated that they’d like to play at Oracle Park in San Francisco, but the city’s mayor doesn’t want them and it does not appear the NFL or the 49ers, who have territorial rights to the city, will approve the move. The 49ers may be willing to let the Raiders play at Levi’s Stadium.

Raiders owner Mark Davis didn’t weigh in on any of those reports during a conversation with the Las Vegas Review-Journal and said “we haven’t been the ones talking at all” while expressing a desire to remain in the Bay Area.

“I’m not frustrated,” Davis said. “I’ve said from the beginning, my biggest concern is our fans, and it’s my hope and preference to remain in the Bay Area for them. The fans have always been first in my heart. We do have other options, but the hope is to remain in the Bay Area next season until we move to Las Vegas in 2020, which I remain very excited about.”

The Raiders can still play in Oakland under the $7.5 million lease they walked away from when Oakland sued the team and the league over the move to Vegas. It would seem that their choice is going back there or being the 49ers’ tenants if Davis is sincere about staying in the Bay Area.

  1. Biggest joke of the entire NFL. They will continue to wallow in mediocrity (or worse) until they clean house at the very top of the organization. This team is not worth following.

  2. Don’t matter now. Gruden started disbanding the team in Oct, by Sep there won’t be anyone left.

  3. I’m starting to sense correlation between good ownership and good teams:

    New England, Philadelphia: Recent champions

    Oakland, Washington: Dumpster fires

  4. The Raiders will play in The Black Hole one last season before moving to Las Vegas. The Raiders and Jon Gruden are building a football dynasty. Last year was only year 1, and the Raiders won 4 games. Bay Area fans remember Bill Walsh only won 2 games his first season in San Francisco. I remember those days vividly. The beloved Raiders were getting ready to move to Los Angeles and the bumper stickers said; “Save our Raiders. Send the 49ers to L.A.” A year later Walsh won his first super bowl. A few years later, a very young Jon Gruden got his first NFL job with those 49ers. Now Walsh and DeBartolo are in the HOF. I think Gruden knows exactly what he’s doing, and how to do it.

  5. Mark Davis is the real living breathing version of Ricchhie Rich . Dude has ZERO CLUE , no idea at all how to run this franchise & does not know what it takes to win and build a consistent winner long term…. Guy is one of the worst owners in the NFL & Gruden needs to talk Davis into hiring a team who knows what they’re doing and who know how to successfully build a profitable winning franchise. Until someone talks Davis into stepping own this franchise will stay pathetic. Look at the 49ers version of RIchie Rich who’s PARENTS HANDED HIM THE KEY’S to an NFL Franchise making him Ceo & president at like 25yrs old. The franchise promptly nose dived and still hasnt full recovered since that happend. That’s what is going down in OAK.

  6. I can’t imagine being a fan of team that doesn’t know where there going to play the upcoming season, on February 7th, 2019

When you follow a team that has a leader with no vision……That’s when your lost.

  7. So funny that the Raidahs are such a dumpster fire that no one even wants them… “Vegas? Oakland? LA? San Fran? Anyone want to play with us?” Maybe they can just watch the VHS of the last time they were relevant.

Why don’t they want to play in Oakland in 2019?
    ——————–

The answer is in the article.

  9. Does he actually hear what he is saying????? The biggest concern is the fans. Holy cow!!! I guess it always sounds great on paper saying stuff like that , but to actually say that when you are moving the team. the reality is professional sports (all of them) is like shooting fish in a barrel. I know each league thinks they are the reason for their success but the reality is, fans are so loyal and sports is what it is a blind squirrel could run a pro sports franchise and make money. The poor fans are taken advantage of because of the unique dynamic sports brings. I feel sorry for all of us! If anyone in this picture needs a union it is the fans.

  10. Mr. Bigstuff is spot on. I’ve been a Patriots Season ticket holder since 1971 and suffered through the years of the Sullivan Family, Victor Kiem and others owning the Team….all the while, watching the likes of Pittsburgh and Denver consistently fielding competitive/winning teams & environment. I have since been transferred to Cincinnati (still have my Pats tickets though!) and have seen what poor ownership (2nd generation) can do to a once proud franchise. It should be a case-study at every business school on how NOT to run a Company. It’s truly hard to believe that the fans put up with it, especially since they are the ones who paid for the Stadium and the guaranteed sellouts. The owners with no business acumen spend time thinking about how they can make money NOW. The ones who understand the game, think of ways to make money now and more importantly, ongoing. It all starts at the top in my opinion.

  11. BEWARE citizens of the Bay Area. A rogue NFL team is on the loose and the league is looking for a place to vulture temporarily before their permanent (aka: Temporary) place is found to suck the resources from other other unsuspecting citizens.

How long will the NFL get away with robbing cities? Can’t wait to find out.

  12. Imagine how you would feel if you Dad built something and you inherited it and you were clueless and screwed up badly year after year, culminating in throwing away $100 million dollars.

    I wouldn’t be frustrated, I’d be sad I was a moron.

  13. Of course he’s not frustrated. He coerced what, a billion dollars or so out of Vegas for the new stadium? What does he care about the fans? Answer = nothing.

  14. Does Allen even hear himself speak? “My biggest concern is our fans.” This is a patently obvious lie. Allen couldn’t care less about the fans. The Raiders abandoned the Oakland fans to head to Los Angeles. And then the Raiders abandoned the Los Angeles fans to come back to Oakland. And now the Raiders are again knifing their loyal and passionate fans by heading off to Vegas. No franchise has treated their fans any worse. Allen should quit the B.S. and move out of the State, hopefully forever.

  15. Just negotiate with Vegas for free rent on Sam Boyd Stadium and use the $7.5M you were going to pay to Oakland to rent the dump to bring Boyd up to NFL standards for one season.

Quit toying with the emotions of the fan base you’ve screwed over and give your new fans their team already.

This is the funniest thing I have read in quite some time!!

  17. ” Bill Walsh only won 2 games his first season in San Francisco. I remember those days vividly.”
    ____________________

Do you also vividly remember that Bill Walsh wasn’t also the GM at the time? Gruden as the coach with a good front office behind him maybe works out. But with him calling all the shots 6 wins is the ceiling.

  18. “My main concern is the fans”…..seriously? Why then are you leaving for Las Vegas Nevada? You’re betraying your fans like Dean Spanos did by moving the Chargers to LA. That has failed miserably. They have no fans in LA. You might fail in LV.

  19. The problem is that not many cities trust the Raiders anymore after the owners screwed over Oakland and Los Angeles multiple times. This is the SECOND time that the Davis family has abandoned Oakland and the taxpayers. As a taxpayer in Alameda County, this is infuriating. Vegas beware. The Raiders won’t contribute a single cent towards the stadium.

  20. This is becoming a real nightmare for the Raiders and whatever fans they have left. Mark Davis moves the team to Vegas and gets Vegas to put in money, private and public, to build a stadium. To be fair both he and the NFL put in some money. That stadium would be complete til next season. Davis thought Oakland would still be home for the franchise until the Vegas stadium was ready. Then Oakland filed suit, and Mark Davis plans flew out the window. Now we have this, a team without a ‘home’ stadium.

Davis has a lot of cities that want to provide a temporary home. Instead of being greatfull, Davis doesn’t like any of cities for any number of reasons. Now Davis says he still wants to play games next season in the Bay Area. He doesn’t want to disappoint Oakland fans! He’s moving the team to Vegas. Oakland fans are already disappointed and upset. How many Bay Area fans will travel to Vegas every week to watch the Raiders play? Davis is becoming delusional in what he wants. If Davis never wanted to leave Oakland, he should have used his own money and just built his own stadium and be done with it. Only a few owners have had the guts to build their own stadium. Most go the route of corporate welfare and want the taxpayer to pay most of it. That way an owner is free to move his team for the best deal. Davis si no exception. He want his cake and eat it too.

  21. I pity fans of franchises who have bad ownership. Most important position in football isn’t your QB, it’s your team’s owner.

  22. Davis has found his spot on the Mount Rushmore of horrible owners along with Bill Bidwell, Donald Sterling and Daniel Snyder. A total embarrassment. I bled Silver and Black for almost 50 years, no more. Can’t wait for Jim Quinn and his team to mop the floor in court on Davis and his incompetent co-horts.

Thank you. I for one appreciate the condolences.

  24. correction the fans might be first in your heart, but your wallet comes first above everything else….and that is why you are going to Las Vegas to leave the fans broken hearted.

  25. I hope they play in San Diego. Better yet, to complete home game sell outs. That will really make the Chargers look bad, not that the Chargers need any help looking bad.

    ############################

You are absolutely right. Davis doesn’t care at all about the fans. He’s lied about his desire to stay in Oakland since Day 1. He told Oakland the most important thing for a new stadium was ingress/egress (from the stadium) and space for tailgaiters..his new stadium has neither. He closed Mount Davis and artificially lowered ticket prices to try and show that he was losing money in Oakland.. as soon as he got Vegas, what did he do? He jacked up ticket prices by more than 150 percent on those fans he cared about so much. Raiders fans have dealt with nearly 20 years of losing, they deserve much better.

  27. “The fans come first.”

Does Mark Davis actually believe this?

He doesn’t give a crap about the fans, or the team would have found a way to stay in Oakland.

They should be forced to change name and colours. See how many people would buy into a no-identity team with this awful roster.

    Who the heck is Allen?

  29. When I look at that picture and think of the current state of the Raiders I can’t help but ask myself “why is this man smiling?”

  30. Mark Davis wants to remain in the Bay Area because he doesn’t want to move twice. He would look really spineless in he came crawling back to Oakland, After all, he is being sued by the city. Just share with the 49ers for one season and end this thing. Enough is enough.

  31. The 9ers would not mind some extra revenue allowing the Raiders to play at Levi’s Stadium but they would mind if they get no money and the Raiders play in Frisco at Oracle Park. People will be joking about the Frisco Niners playing in Santa Clara and the team that really plays in Frisco is the Raiders.

He’s smiling because he won the birth lottery and (by his own admission) has never had to work a day in his life. If not for his inherited wealth, he’d be struggling to peddle pencils on a street corner.
