Hard Knocks reportedly interested in Jets, but Jets aren’t interested

Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams had a starring role on Hard Knocks last season as a member of the Cleveland coaching staff and there’s reportedly interest in having him back for another run in 2019.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that NFL Films has not spoken to the team yet, but that there’s interest in having the Jets appear on the program. Their interest is likely connected to a coaching staff that features Williams and Joe Vitt, who told NFL investigators that Williams lied when he spoke to them during the investigation into bounty allegations against the Saints.

If they do approach the Jets, it will be a short conversation. Mehta reports the Jets aren’t interested and a league source tells PFT that there’s “no chance” the team agrees to take part.

Because they have a new head coach in Adam Gase and because they appeared on the show in 2010, the Jets cannot be compelled to welcome cameras to training camp. Given Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer‘s recent comments about picking up the Rams offense from similar series, the Jets probably won’t be the only team reluctant to have their moment in the spotlight.

Five teams — Washington, Detroit, Oakland, San Francisco and the Giants — cannot refuse to take part in the show this year.

  1. Giants will be the team as they have two current stars (Saquon, OBJ) and can have the storyline of the end of Manning with whichever QB they draft.

Raiders will be on the NFL’s radar for next year after the move to Las Vegas.

  2. Go ahead, tell the GIANTS That they have to do the show. Tell them.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.

Get Jerrah to do it. He’s love to have Big D on Hard Knocks again.

  3. Jon Gruden is a natural for starring on Hard Knocks. He’s no good as a game-day HC but he excels at sound bites and mugging for the camera (just like any other politician).

  4. Hard knocks is great show I love it. And as dysfunctional as my jets are at times and boy does this coaching staff seem too really show you they are a mess lol but I will say I love the staff as well so I guess I’m screwed up too. But they finally have an all around good staff. Stay far away from hard knocks though please don’t let the rest of world hate on you. It would be an interesting series tho. Force the giants too do it especially when they draft a qb

  5. Washington makes the most sense. I don’t think anyone is interested so much in the coaching/players aspects as much as trying to figure out WTF is going on in that ridiculous Front Office.

  6. I think it makes a lot more sense to make the Team that wins the Super Bowl be the mandatory selection for Hard Knocks. I think most of the Football viewing public isn’t so interested in the inner-workings of the worst Teams in the League. Show us how the good Teams get it done.

  7. Make the SB winning or loosing team do it every year. If the top 2 teams have done it in the last 5 years start making the AFC and NFC Championship loosing teams do it. Essentially start from the top and work your way down until you have a team that qualifies. Sucky teams have enough to worry about and they don’t need another distraction.

  8. This is good news. The Jets are still a dumpster fire without much entertainment value.

  9. I cant imagine how Adam Gase would be in Hard Knocks, that would be hilarious.
He would have to wear his cap.
