Mr. Big Chest’s tweet wasn’t #fakenews.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Tuesday’s meeting between Steelers owner Art Rooney II and receiver Antonio Brown resulted in an agreement by the Steelers to work on a potential trade. However, the Steelers have not yet given Brown permission to speak to other teams.

At some point before a trade is accomplished, a discussion with other teams could be useful, given that Brown has made it clear that he wants a new deal.

The meeting was attended by Steelers executive Omar Khan, agent Drew Rosenhaus, and Brown’s father, Eddie Brown. It was, according to the source, cordial.

It remains to be seen what the Steelers can get for Brown. It should now be abundantly clear that the market is official open; even though a trade can’t become official until March 13, the Steelers and a new team could work out a tentative deal at any point before then.

  1. The should let Mr. Big Chest talk to other teams.

You know you’re getting rid of him, and it beats having him tweet.

  2. Make the best deal possible, but divest yourself of Brown, or ‘Mr. Big Chest’ as he now wants to be known…as soon as you can.

  3. Art Rooney said as much almost a month ago.
The only thing that is different now is that someone else said it, but I’m sure Antonio is really satisfied with himself now that he thinks he talked Art into it.

  4. I am going to write my niners right now and beg that they DO NOT sign this cancer. I’ll mow Jed’s lawn for 10 years if they DO NOT sign this guy. I’ll wash his car. I’ll pick up his dry cleaning. Whatever I have to do to keep this bum off my team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Trade season is open because it has been announced that Joe Flacco has been traded to Denver. It remains to be seen how much the Steelers can receive for a WR who is mentored by Terrell Owens. And if they do not get much in return, whether they will try to keep him and see if he and the team and the players can patch things up.

  6. I laughed when I read that his agent was Drew Rosenhaus – seems that whenever there is a controversial over the top player – his agent is whom?? the above guy

  7. I’d rather have a losing season (s) than have Bell or Brown play for the Steelers ever again. Well maybe keep Brown and just let him sit the bench and get fined for not showing up for the next few years.

  8. They aren’t going to get much or at least shouldn’t. Brown is a 31 year diva, who quit on his team during a playoff run and now is clamoring for a new contract. That is reason enough to pass on him. Plus, while AB certainly has skills, the Pittsburgh passing attack (and their quarterback’s ability to buy time in the pocket) is a significant factor in the success of the Steeler receivers. Over the years Steelers receivers have not performed as well after being traded to other teams (Holmes, Randle El, Bryant etc.) As the old Denver zone blocking scheme made stars out of a bunch of running backs, so to Pittsburgh is a very favorable spot to be a receiver. Caveat emptor on AB.

  9. It’s going to be interesting to see what the Steeers become over the next couple of years.

Brown & Bell are on their way out, Ben is nearing the end, & Tomlin on the hot seat for losing the locker room.

Don’t be surprised to hear about & see more of Mason Rudolph in the next year.

  10. Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, and Santonio Holmes had great careers after leaving Pittsburgh, I’m sure Mr. Big Chest will follow in their footsteps.

  11. Good. Get it done. AB will be much less of a news hog when his career is cratering on some other team, and we can get back to football.

  12. This guy is a total cancer. He like Bell think they are Prima donna’s that think they are untouchable and think they are all that for big dollars. Let teams not trade/sign and let them sit. Maybe that will make them wake up and change the attitude.

  13. Come to Buffalo so you and Josh Allen can do special handshakes, different type of guy than Ben Roethlisberger, but oh wait, McBeane only goes for character guys. I wish as well as the Steelers i would guess that Antonio Brown handled this divorce better. He darn sure better preform next season wherever he goes with all of his antics.

  14. They should not reward his behavior this way. Should keep him and suspend him first 4 games of the season for conduct detrimental.

If another team offers more than some pringles and a six pack of coke the GM involved should be fired.

  15. Guy sells out the team that made him a star because he wants more than he already agreed to take, and because he wants “guaranteed money” even though he already has 70 million of what the Steelers already paid him in the bank.

Whatever he used to be, he’s turned into everything that is wrong with pro sports today. There won’t be anything or anyone left to root for if this keep up, and by going along with it, Steelers management is making sure we’ll see more of this in the future.

  16. Classic democrat strategy is being used by AB and Rosenhaus.
They (AB & his agent Rosenhaus) portray AB as a “victim” and make the environment (e.g. social media and sports media as a whole) so difficult and negative for the Steelers that the employer (Steelers) will take whatever they can just to get rid of AB.
This is what the dems lapdog media did to Trump during the shutdown.
So yeah, I have lost ALL respect for AB and I hope he blows out his ACL and/or achilles before the 2019 NFL season.

to think this guy was once a 6th rd pick

    can’t hold edelman’s jock

    ===============

Can’t hold any of his 3 Super Bowl rings, either.

  18. What team is dumb enough to give up playe(s)/draft pick(s) along with a guaranteed contract for Mr Big Chest? Brown having Owens as a mentor puts the cherry on the parfait

  19. I like the wording M Florio used, Steelers agree to “try” and trade Brown… because AB’s recent actions have been so destructive and ridiculous what team that seeks to win without drama wants to trade for this buffoon???

  20. Trade him to the Broncos for Emmanuel Sanders and the teams also swap first round drafts picks (Steelers get the #10 pick and the Broncos get the #20 pick).

  21. He’s got one of the best receiver contracts already. The Rams went and got Cooks, signed Gurley big, Donald big and haven’t even extended Goff yet and see what they’re dealing with the cap. Same with Chiefs and Watkins, needing Ford having Houston’s deal and Mahomes is gonna want his soon. same with Amari Cooper, Lawrence..Jaylon Smith is gonna want his as well as Zeke and Dak..if someone wants to pony up a first then throw a guarantee at a 31 year old receiver and think he’ll duplicate numbers like he did prior, snap at the chance!

  22. People should stop comparing A Brown with Mike Wallace, Santonio Holmes, and Emmanuel Sanders. The other 3 guys had combined 1 Pro Bowl selection between them during their time with the Steelers; AB has been 1st team All Pro 4 times and a 6 time pro bowler. AB has arguably been the best WR in the last 5 years. AB will be fine if he gets to play with a decent QB. Btw, Emmanuel Sanders has had good career in Denver thanks to Manning.

  23. You know would it not be great if nobody wanted to trade for him? In fact as he is such a royal pain maybe nobody will trade for him and any tean that has any interest wait until the inevitable time when he is cut by the Steelers.

As for getting a new contract, any GM who gives him one is skating on very thin ice.

  25. Sorry, but with all the talented young WR’s that will be available in the draft what team needs a soon to be 31 y/o diva who will not mentor the younger players and is a trouble maker? i just hope the Steelers get a 1st round at the least 3rd round pick for him and if he winds up disappearing into obscurity sooner than later…GOOD!!!

Let’s not get confused, though AB has had his problems this season. Edelman is no AB. AB’s a much better receiver. he just hasn’t had the supporting cast on defense. Fact.

  28. AB is not only a cancer he is also a liar. Just TWO days ago he said ” It’s not about the money, it’s for the love of the sport”…48 hrs later he says he wants guaranteed money. So the real truth comes out, finally. It’s not Ben disrespecting him, or Tomlin telling the truth about him quiting on the team. It’s simply MONEY. Im sure he lost bonus money for not being named team MVP (IMO he came behind Connor AND JuJu for MVP).

ANY team dumb enough to trade for him will soon find out why teams with players like him will never win a ring. I was an AB fan, now I root for him to fail. Which I’ve only done once (Bengals LB was other).

I just wish a NFL Owner will one day take a stand against players like him. Giving this spoiled, self entitled, money hungry, LYING cancer of a player a taste of his own medicine. It will happen again to another player because the pattern is set for players to act the fool to get what they want. Sad and it ruins 52 other players chances and hurts millions of fans (who pay his salary)

If I were Mr Rooney he’d be a Bill, Cardinal, Raider or Dolphin. It would be very funny seeing him as a Bengals though…

No, it’s not a fact. Edelman is light years above Brown right now. If Edelman doesn’t blow out the ACL last year, it’s probably 3 straight rings for him with him having an enormous impact in all 3 wins.

    This isn’t 2014 or 2015 anymore.

Brown is basically mentally checked out and not committed.

    You can’t teach heart. Edelman>Brown.

  31. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall. After watching that video, can you imagine trying to have a meaningful conversation with Brown? Me thinks, I would have needed a toddy after that convo. LOL Can’t wait for AB’s storm of undecipherable tweets.

He was paid a lot of upfront money to play for the Steelers, now they are stuck with this headache. I hope the Steelers learned their lesson on this deal, and I hope they teach AB one by making him as miserable as they possibly can. That’s my opinion anyway.

  33. There are few players who mentor more guys than Brown. He literally works with kids from the peewwee range on up and is beloved by teammates in his locker room because he shares what makes him great with the younger guys. Now a guy who didn’t do that was Jason Witten. And He will tell you that himself. He did not want to mentor anyone who could possibly take his job.

    ————————
Actually its the other way around. Edelman has way more heart than AB. Its one of the bigger reasons why Edelman winds up providing more value to his team’s results than AB who is clearly the more physically gifted.

  44. It appears both in the NBA and now NFL players are trying to force themselves out of town. The owners will let this go on a very limited time, and if the players keep it up, the owners will start pushing for lower signing bonuses and all contracts guaranteed just year to year. No way in hell with they be put in a position with dead cap money hurting the building of their team the following seasons, like the Steelers are with Mr Big chest

  45. As much as the Steelers are horrible in a lot of phases, including coaching and management, he won’t be missed. No one drafts WRs better than the Steelers. They’ll find someone else.

  46. If you watch that entire video, in between all of the other BS, he says “I’m gonna evolution (sic) the game.” I think he thinks he’s going to change the NFL by throwing his tantrum and ultimately getting what he wants, an NBA style trade. He has to be delusional, or on something. I can’t see any NFL contender taking this headache on, and let’s not forget, he is being investigated by the league for various off field incidents. A suspension could be forthcoming. Also, given the way he has acted, after getting “paid” by the Steelers, why wouldn’t he to the same thing if/when he is traded. He isn’t getting a new guaranteed contract from whoever he may be traded to, so he might as well thrown that thought out the window.

People said that Sherman was going to be a “locker room disaster” in SF and it was the exact opposite. Sherman became a mentor to the young players, a leader in the locker room, and he’s been a consummate professional.

He was a sixth round pick, seems like the Steelers would settle for that and draft another AB! Lol That’s right….They can’t! Like finding a needle in a haystack. If AB is such a bum, why does everyone want the Steelers to get so much in return??

  51. Sell his contract to AAF — they just got a big infusion of cash. He’ll be an attraction for the league.

  52. It’s pretty hilarious to read these comments from Steelers fans who think the team is going to play better without the best WR in the NFL. #Dellusional #BigBenBUST #Tomlin – ACT LIKE A COACH

  53. For the second time in a week every GM is asking their head coach if they want AB. Since no team stepped up last week at least with a decent draft pick the Steelers are at best going to get a 6th or 7th round pick and only on the condition of no new contract. He will destroy any new coaches or QB’s as he is going to be cancer. Tampa Bay probably would be his best option with Arians, who could control him and a offensive to support his abilities. San Fran and the Raiders run West Coast principal offensives, which won’t suit him very well.

  56. When it comes to Edelman vs Mr. Big chest argument, would any steelers fan not trade Mr. Big chest for Edelman in a heartbeat? The diva may have better stats but that doesn’t equal wins seeing as how the steelers couldn’t even make the playoffs last season.

  57. Rooney, if you don’t get a 1st round pick for him, let him suffer on the bench. You’re a bazillionaire any way, so its not about the $$$ for you. If you go soft and take a 4th or 5th for him, you will lose plenty of Steeler’s Nation on principle alone. We peons spend every last dollar on these games, merch, etc… and the last thing I want is for this guy to skate and be happy on HIS terms. You owe the fans tenfold for who and what you are and what your organization has become. Don’t forget that and don’t blow this! Respectfully submitted.

  68. It is interesting to see people compare AB to Julian Edelman. AB is a better receiver than Edelman without a doubt, just compare the % of dropped catches. However, in a salary cap league Edelman provides more value for money. Edelman earns 4.5 m/year compare that with AB’s 17 m/year, also Edelman is the heart of that team. BB will pick Edelman over AB any day.

Baker Mayfield is an elite QB? HAHAHAHAHAHA.. you didn’t watch a single game of his if you are making that claim. Beyond that year 2 is MUCH harder than year 1 cause they got tape on you… We will see what year two holds for him.

    Same goes for Josh Allen…..

PED-Man is a one trick pony with the Pats and would be cut by teams not having Brady.

So what you are saying is that Brady is the greatest QB of all time and can make some “average Joe” like Edelman look unstoppble, right?

  76. Please for the love of god Gruden do not get taken to the cleaners two years in a row by the Steelers. Someone needs to monitor all of Gruden’s incoming and outgoing calls through the end of the draft. I’ll steal a line from Bull Durham, “Brown is a million dollar talent with a two cent brain” #noBrowntoRaiders

Soooo outside of sir Patrick and Russell W. list the elite QB’s not on the brink of retirement??
    ————-
    Andrew Luck
    Philip Rivers
    Aaron Rogers
    Matt Ryan
    Some would say Carson Wentz
We may also be able to add Baker Mayfield and Desean Watson to that list

These are my favorite posts. You’re kidding if you think Brady doesn’t read message boards and comment sections, just like we all do. He laughs to himself and says he might play till he’s 50…and I wouldn’t be surprised if Brees joins him. You guys keep talking retirement and he’ll keep getting fit for rings, just to stick it to you all.

  78. Mr. Big Turd is going to be in for a surprise in a few years when he discovers his diminishing skills are no longer good enough to cover up his off field issues. This can only end badly.

  79. I hope he ends up in Miami or Jacksonville…with their QB situations, it’d be a fascinating year. Or to the Giants…he and OBJ together, wow, that’s instant entertainment.

  80. Some team will absolutely trade for this nutcase. I can say without a doubt I don’t want him on my team. He would immediately be the best player and would probably make them better immediately but.. I do not want this guy. That says a lot since the team I like has been bad for years. Still do not want him.. HE IS HUMAN CANCER!

  81. Some team will trade for him. The Raiders got two first-round picks for Mack but I don’t think the Steelers will get that for AB because of his antics.

  82. Rooney’s agreement to trade Brown (1) undercuts the compensation the Steelers will get, (2) ensures that the Steelers have $21+ million less of cap space in 2019 and (3) rewards Brown’s conduct. It is hard to imagine a more clueless owner or more selfish player. I suspect Brown focused on Big Ben and Mike Tomlin as the villains during the meeting with Rooney – accusations that are probably well founded. It will be fascinating to see if the Steelers give Big Ben another extension (and signing bonus) hamstringing the team well into the future while Tomlin continues to give the players license. Rooney need to get out of the football decisions and Tomlin needs to coach another team – Pittsburgh players have tuned him out. Only this is Pittsburgh and they don’t react to things like this obvious failure of leadership.

  83. I doubt he gets traded he wants a new deal.whos giving up a pick plus a big deal with up front money for a headache?
