Report: Packers waive Antonio Morrison

The Packers held onto defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, but they are parting ways with one member of their 2018 defense.

Field Yates of ESPN.com reports that the Packers have waived linebacker Antonio Morrison. Morrison was acquired in a trade with the Colts that sent cornerback Lenzy Pipkins to Indianapolis last summer.

Morrison, who was set to make $2 million in 2019, appeared in 16 games and made eight starts for the Packers last season. He had 48 tackles and a sack in those appearances.

There could be further changes to come at linebacker in Green Bay. Clay Matthews and Jake Ryan are both set for free agency, so the team may be looking for new additions at both the inside and outside spots as they put together their 2019 unit.

  1. Another 2.02 million off the Packers books.

Next week the real action starts

    Stay tuned….

  2. No way they let Ryan walk.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see some team overpay for Mathews, but it won’t be the Packers.

  3. So it looks like the Packers are getting serious about their rebuild and tearing things down. Which of course means there will be no playoff expectations when the season starts. (Except in Green Bay)

  4. Morrison is a plugger, a solid one down player but they can do better. A rookie could do what he offered to Packers. I am curious about Ryan’s future (two knee surgeries) Another safe bet to get released and be replaced with younger, faster player. The days of run stuffers are coming to an end.

  5. I was certainly hoping for more production out of Morrison when we made this trade.
He turned out to be just another guy.
Very interested in seeing what transpires next week.
And then it’s time to gear up for the draft.
    Exciting times at 1265.

Also, you just have to laugh when the fans of an 8 win team act like they’ve actually accomplished something.
But with zero cap space, just a couple of draft picks and the same old underachieving/scapegoating regime coming back for year 6………..well, what do they say about the definition of insanity?

  6. Oren Burks injury in the pre season last year is the main reason Morrison was acquired. This move today just is more proof they are highly confident in Burks taking a step up in his 2nd year.

Gute is also clearing more money to make moves in FA starting next week. All is good!

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

The playoff expectations will be very real and will be given to Green Bay by expert prognosticators that make their living doing that sort of thing.

By the third preseason game, I expect the Packers to be ranked by these same professionals higher than the Vikings.

Do you know why? Aaron Charles Rodgers
