Packers signing offensive lineman Billy Turner

The Packers aren’t just splurging on defense.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers are going to sign Broncos offensive lineman Billy Turner.

Turner has played both tackle and guard. The 27-year-old was initially a third-round pick of the Dolphins, who has 25 career starts (11 last year).

The Packers were plagued by injuries up front, and needed bodies there.

The Packers have also struck quick deals with pass-rushers Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith and safety Adrian Amos.

  1. Another hole filled! Options in draft are getting interesting. With 3 picks in the top 44 is looking like the Packers will be a totally transformed team in 2019.

  2. If my Packers have to overpay for second and third tier free agents, so be it. None of these guys really want to be in Green Bay. And we may as well spend the money anyways. There’s no owner to say no. Or pocket the difference.

  3. Wow, the Packers signing another’s team’s offensive lineman, instead of the other way around. Now I’ve seen it all!

  4. I like that he plays both guard and tackle. Versatile is the name of the game on the OL.

    Solid signing at good price.

  5. Vikings lost 2 key guys on D and their D is still better then the packers even after the 2 linebackers they just signed. Watch za’darius turn out like dannell ellerbe lol and Preston Smith is average.

  6. As the late, great Bud Grant once famously said, “Viking fans are small people (figuratively), leading small lives, beneath the giant shadow of the Green Bay Packers”.

And as you can plainly see, he was right.

  7. Interesting. Packers adding players and talent while the Vikings are watching a stampede out the door. Told ‘ya signing Cousins was going to ruin you, but you wouldn’t listen.

  8. Turner is decent, but was not even the starter going in last year. This price is making feel better about the Broncos over paying James. Broncos Country wishes him the best going forward though.

  9. Whats equally silly as the TT post, is the rest ofnthe Viking fans when the Packers dont make a move its oy its Kumerow gotta be cheap, now they are some money its oh they will stink…. a similar line will be spewed in during the draft.

Whats really funny is they are going to rib the Packers for there FA this season while they are one year into a fully gur
Contract that some seem tonall ready regret for a qb thats is better known for stats than wins.

Great money for an average player. It’s what it takes to get them to GB
    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

cheesy! What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be out chasing down people that incorrectly say “ daylight savings” instead of “daylight saving?”

A few typos can be expected but this looks like a toddler got a hold of someone’s laptop and started typing away.

  12. As an NDSU Bison fan I’m not happy about this. But at least Billy fleeced the Packers. He’s a good versatile player but not worth that much.

  13. The Vikings wanted Billy Turner very badly as they “attempt to revamp their OL.”

Mike Klis a beat writer for the Denver Broncos said the “Vikings were showing great interest in offensive lineman Billy Turner.” The connection is with new offensive advisor Gary Kubiak, who worked with Turner this past season.

Turner is a Minnesota native who played his high school football at Mounds View High School and his college ball at North Dakota State University.

Turner has the sort of versatility that Vikings coach Rick Dennison longs for as he tries to fix the huge mess of a offensive line he was left with.

    Poor Barneys.

Somebody doesn’t know how to use Google and compare multiple reporting entities to identify if the assertion holds water. Every bit is true. Vikings and Broncos both wanted him for his versatility. Such ignorance…

You’re correct actually but as usual the Packers had to overpay for mediocre players because they have no chance to get good players.

So if Cousins salary is going to ruin the team, doesn’t that mean that Rodgers (a scrambling QB) salary will ruin your team also?
Cousins averages 28 million per year, 84 million guaranteed.
Rodgers averages 33.5 million per year, 100 million guaranteed.

  18. Of the GB free agent signings, this one is the only strange one to me. I liked the others, but this one, while not terrible, is kind of a head scratcher. Turner has limited starting experience, even now as a veteran, and his play was not impressive for Denver last year. Amos was a great signing, the linebackers were decent, but Turner may end up being the dud of the group.
