Bears officially cut Cody Parkey

The Bears didn’t disguise their intention to part ways with kicker Cody Parkey, but he remained on the roster through the first couple of months of their offseason.

Parkey’s officially time as a Bear came to an end on Wednesday. The team announced his release and General Manager Ryan Pace indicated last month that Parkey will be designated as a post-June 1 cut in order to lessen the amount of dead money on this year’s cap.

Redford Jones and Chris Blewitt are now the only kickers on the Chicago roster.

The Bears also announced that they have tendered defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris, outside linebacker Isaiah Irving and offensive lineman Rashaad Coward as exclusive rights free agents.

  1. Good! Serves you right!! The Dolphins gave you a chance and then you stabbed them in the back and chased a few extra bucks in Chicago. Now that Contract turned out to be Fool’s Gold. Enjoy being on the Couch or being a rental journeyman at best.

  2. He will forever be remembered as Cody “Doink” Parkey. Scott Norwood should call him and tell him to let it go and think that about the fact that 20 years from now everyone will still remember him when all the other kickers in the NFL are forgotten.

  3. Chicago has bigger issues than a kicker. Lost at home to the Eagles. The QB is middling and the new Monsters of the Midway vanished, but they can’t cut Trubisky, they sold their souls for him and they sold their bodies for Mack so he stays. Scapegoat: Kicker.

  4. Too bad. Now he’ll never get the chance to go for the never-before-seen triple. Personally, I think he could have done it.

  5. The Bears defense gave up 16 points in the game. The defense gave them a chance to win. 1st season with a new coach and they go from 5-11 to 12-4 with a very young and inexperienced team. They are coming back with nearly the same roster as last year. Trubisky threw for 300 yards and a TD in his first playoff game. So what’s the bigger issue? were they picked to win the Super Bowl, or even their division last year?

  6. I would have brought him into camp since they are payng him. I would have had him kick extra points……so the Bear fans could Boo him.

  7. Cody Parkey WAS great as a rookie Philadelphia Eagle. I think being around Adam Vinatari in the Colts training camp prepared him but since then he’s been on his own with mixed results. He needs to hangout with the GOAT of all kickers again if he wants to keep playing in the NFL

  8. How ironic that the Bears may be replacing a kicker who blew it with a kicker named Blewitt.

  9. Gotta wonder if with all the salary restructuring the Bears might offer Gould more than he would get from franchise tag in SF. But is it worth $5+ million for an 36 yr old kicker?
