DeMarcus Ware wants to work for Cowboys

DeMarcus Ware worked for one of his former teams as a part-time consultant last season. He hopes to work for the other one this season.

The former pass rusher, who spent nine years with the Cowboys and three with the Broncos, had a contract with the Broncos last season. But he lives in the Dallas area and works privately with several of the league’s top pass rushers, including Von Miller and many of the Cowboys.

He hopes for a formal role with the Cowboys this season.

“I think it’ll be a great opportunity for me to come back here and coach the guys,” Ware said during the 15th annual Taste of the Cowboys on Sunday night. “I always say I want to teach the championship mentality. If I can come here at least two or three days a week, teaching them Wednesdays and Thursdays, and teach the pass rushers how to pass rush, stop the run, but then I always help the offensive line like Tyron Smith with his technique.

“The thing is I still can do it. You’ve got a coach who can get out there and not just not say how to do it, but can show tape that they remember on how to do it and then get out there and do it as well with them.”

Ware made 138.5 sacks in his career, which ended after the 2016 season.

The Cowboys talked to him about a formal role last season before Ware committed to the Broncos. They have not gotten that far yet this season.

“We love DeMarcus Ware,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s a special person. He was a special player for this organization for a number of years, and everybody loves him. The coaches love him. His former teammates love him. Obviously, the Jones family loves him.

“We did talk about it last year. It just has to work for both sides. What he’s looking for. What we’re looking for, for a role like that. Suffice to say, he’s always welcome, and if we get to a point, where it makes sense for both sides, we’ll definitely bring him back and get him involved. He’s a special guy.”

  1. All you donkey’s who always make fun of Jerry for his so called lack of football knowledge, he was the one responsible in drafting DeMarcus Ware, the Cowboys had 2 first rounders that season and Bill Parcells wanted the Cowboys to draft Marcus Spears with the higher of the 1st round picks and Jerry insisted that they use the higher pick on Ware & if Spears was still there then they could draft him with the other pick which ended up happening anyway. Obviously Ware turned out the better player than Spears.
DeMarcus Ware is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer, 138.5 career sacks and 35 forced fumbles is amazing!

All you donkey’s who always make fun of….

DeMarcus Ware being good is somehow supposed to be a burn on Broncos fans? Where did he win his ring? You should be thanking us, or John Elway at least.

  3. Marinelli will be 70 in July, have to wonder how many seasons he has left in him. Get Ware in for a consultant, maybe he can take over the DL when Marinelli retires.

you are totally missing the point of my comment, it was not intended to “be a burn on Broncos fans”, it was intended for the donkey’s who always make fun of Jerry Jones for not knowing anything about football as he is the one who wanted to draft Ware with their early first round pick in 2005 with the 11th pick, while Parcells wanted Marcus Spears with the 11th pick.

And by the way even though he won his ring with the Broncos his best years was as a Cowboy.

As a Broncos fan, trust me, we dont talk about Jerry Jones or the Cowboys.

  6. As a bronco fan, u probably should talk about the Cowboys and Jones..Compared to the Broncos, The Cowboys are winners..5 SB wins out of 8 appearances…Bronco’s: 3 wins out of 8 appearances. The Cowboys also have the best win-loss record in NFL history at .573 (512 – 380) Broncos: .534 (476-417). They came into the league the same year..1960. Mic drop!

I think the disconnect is because when other fanbases disrespect the Broncos or the Broncos fanbase they refer to us as donkey’s. If I am understanding you correctly that is not the way you are using the “donkey’s” comment.
