Patrick Mahomes: Chiefs never stop adding plays to our offense

If you think the Chiefs’ offense was impressive last year, Patrick Mahomes says you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Mahomes said today that the Chiefs have already made significant additions to their playbook this offseason, with a lot more coming.

“We’ve added a lot. We never stop adding plays here. That’s the best thing about this team, this offense: We’re never satisfied with where we’re at. We’re always trying to get better, finding ways to get better as a team, as an offense,” Mahomes said.

As good as Mahomes was in 2018, winning the MVP in his first year as a starter, he said he thinks he can become a better player not by adding to his spectacular highlight reel, but by making the ordinary plays more consistently.

“There’s still a ton that I need to improve on. There really is. I made a lot of plays happen kind of off-script, but there were times I should have just made the easy completion for the first down. So I have to keep finding that line of when I want to make the big play happen and when I should take the easy completion,” Mahomes said.

If Mahomes can get even better than he was last year, that’s a scary proposition for the rest of the league.

  1. I can legit say I love how Reid repackages the shovel pass in so many different flavors.

  2. Doesn’t matter how many plays you put in if you don’t have the skilled players to execute them. Tell your skilled teammates to stop beating up women and little kids.

  3. Since when do the number of plays mean your offense is better? Plus you could have had the biggest playbook in the NFL last year but your defense couldn’t stop anything.

  4. I’m a Chiefs and Mahomes fan, can’t see how the offense can get much better and they really don’t need to if the defense can step it up.

  5. He should hope his defense gets better… The problem with having a great offense is your defense never really gets tested because the other team gets one dimensional trying to keep up, allowing the defense to be one dimensional. Going up against a team that can run, pass and score creates a problem for them.

  6. If Pat doesn’t get Hill the most dangerous WR deep threat and Mahomes go to guy on his off script plays and the only reason Travis doesn’t get double teamed every play plus the loss of their only good RB in Hunt I really don’t think the rest of the league will be too worried. Mahomes EASILY had the best offensive weapons in the league last year and everyone gives way too much credit to Mahomes and not enough credit to Hill who is the one who keeps defenses honest. W/o Hill and Hunt I expect the Chiefs and a Mahomes to come back to earth.

  7. The smart way to play is to go for first down and not always go for homerun ball. If only Brett Favre could’ve learned that, he would’ve had more rings. Good luck, defending MVP!

  8. Gonna be a difficult transition for that offense. No Tyreerk, No Kareem and still no other WRs except “Lazarus” Watkins

  9. You know your team is elite when anytime there is a post about them the haters immediately are the first ones that crawl out of their holes to bash them.

  10. You NE haters (aka fans) calm down…you’ve had your run, don’t be mean and greedy! The Party’s over…

  11. If Hill doesn’t play the Chiefs will take a big step back. Outside of Mahommes he is the best player in the offense and he is the best player on ST

  12. He’s absolutely right, he needs to work on the bread and butter plays if he wants to win consistently. During the AFC championship he made some incredible high difficulty throws, but also whiffed on a bunch of easier ones including repeatedly overthrowing open WRs. Ended up 16 for 31 (52%).

You obviously did not watch Mahomes play last year, or if you did, you don’t truly understand what you were seeing.

He is not some one hit wonder who needs to be surrounded by elite talent in order to perform. He’s a generational talent at QB. I don’t understand how some people haven’t figured this out.

  14. He’s a great young QB. He looks like he was just born to play QB he’s so cool, comfortable and collected out there. However, the Chiefs have also lost Hunt and, it looks like, Hill too. Those two guys were both explosive dynamic guys. You don’t just plug another guy and have it be the same. It’ll be interesting to see if they can be as good without them. On a positive though….Mahomes should be even better.

  15. ooooo scary!! I hope Tom Brady can sleep tonight!

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–The record of the New England Patriots since 2001 not withstanding, do you really believe that Tom Brady wouldn’t love to have Mahomes’ athleticism, ability outside the pocket, creativity, and every arm angle ability to throw fastballs? Of course he’ll sleep tonight – he’ll nod off thinking about wide open first reads and clean pockets.

  16. As a Patriots fan, I find it unfortunate that Mahomes has become the target of opposing fans because of the cowardly behaviour of his coach.

Reid has been the one lobbying for the sour grapes OT rule change BS – not Mahomes.

I can definitely say he’s a QB i’ll tune in to watch specifically this year – was an a phenom last year (great weapons or not).

  17. Learning new plays each year and doing the ungreedy bread & butter stuff better – News Flash! – You pretty much have to do this or else any good opposing D will kill you.

  18. No matter how good they are, they’ll choke in the playoffs. The highlight of any Chief’s fan year.

  19. It
Looks to me like Mecole Hardeman is Tyreek Jr. You can’t teach SPEED. Look out.

Chiefs may average 40 points per game this year if Mahomes gets any better.

    ———-

Why did they score 0 points in the 1st half of the AFCCG?

bottom 5 defense so it doesnt matter

    ———
    This is no longer 2018.

The Chiefs put together a very good defensive staff, traded for the 2nd best pass rusher in the league, signed Honey Badger, Okafor, traded for Darron Lee, moved from the 3-4 to Spagnoulo’s 4-3 Under – and that’s without mentioning Chris Jones (15.5 sacks in 2018) or the draft.

The Chiefs defense would shock if it were to become Top 10 in 2019 but Bottom 5 is highly unlikely.
