Randall Cobb has found connection with Dak Prescott

AP

Dak Prescott didn’t need long to hit it off with Amari Cooper. The receiver arrived in Dallas at the trade deadline in October and caught 53 passes for 725 yards and six touchdowns in nine games.

Prescott has had more time to get to know free agent signee Randall Cobb, but he hasn’t needed it.

Prescott and Cobb have formed a quick connection.

“The biggest thing for me is just continuing to build chemistry with him,” Cobb said. “We’re both very open about talking through things. The more communication we have, the more we’ll be on the same page.”

If Cobb can stay healthy — he hasn’t played a full, 16-game schedule since 2015 — he could lead the Cowboys in receptions. The team’s former slot receiver, Cole Beasley, led the Cowboys in receptions in 2016 and ranked second last season only to running back Ezekiel Elliott.

“That’s a very fortunate add there,” Prescott said. “He’s been great, honestly. An ex-quarterback, knows the game up and down, knows every aspect of it; knows when he’s in the read what progression he is, and when you have a guy like that, he’s going to get open; he knows how to get open. He’s had a lot of success in this league already so just to have him be a part of this corps, a part of this team and this offense means a lot.

“We’ve had a fast connection. You take something, approach something, go out there and he does it right the first time. When you have a guy like that, it allows you to cut the ball loose; it allows you to anticipate. It allows you to trust he’s going to be in the right spot, and he hasn’t failed in doing that. The moment he does and even sometimes he does it’s always a consistent feedback and we’re going to talk about it. What we could’ve done, what we should’ve done and, like I said, it serves you well.”

    + / – 30 catches this year?
    ——————————-
Id guess 36-50 range. He is playing in the NFC East where most teams have suspect secondaries.

  2. So far Witten Cobb and Coop has came out and praised Daks accuracy. Maybe the new OC and the new QB coach have something to do with it. Yet I would era on the side of caution and let this year play out before over paying him. Talk is good but PROVE it. I would wait and see and feel better paying elite money to an elite qb next year over OVER paying a Good qb elite money this year.
Right now he is good and wanting elite money. This crazy crap has got to STOP! Im glad my Boys are not going to give in. And they have no reason to.

  3. Cobb has found connection to Dak. Now Dak needs to find connection to reality. Dak is not a 30 million a year QB. The great future HoF Tony Romo carried this team, this team has been carrying Dakota. Hall of fame owner and general manager of America’s Team Jerry Jones and his Son has built a monster team. Any average QB can come in and put up monster numbers behind this line, RB, WRs and top 5 Defense. C’mon Dak, get real.

  4. Cobb is home where he belongs in Dallas. Of course he’d hit it off with Prescott. Randall “Tex” Cobb is a man of uncommon valor.

  5. Wouldnt think youd need much chemistry for a 5 yard checkdown pass, cause everybody knows Daks not going down the field with it.

  6. Did that guy call Tony Romo a future Hall of Famer? I didnt realize Pop Warner had a HoF cause the only way Romo gets into Canton is if he buys a ticket.

  7. Cowboys are overloaded with useless former talent. It’s tome for a drop off.
    —-
I’ll give you Witten. Besides that, who? Cobb (28)? I suppose Lee(32)-moving to SLB, playing 50% of the snaps and Crawford(29) are getting old. Who else?

Not a well thought out take. Who else is washed up besides these guys? BTW none are in the top 7-8 talented players on the team.

  8. Everyone is an expert prognosticator in the off season. Are the Cowboys better with Witten and Cobb than without. Theoretically yes..but who knows? One thing for sure..Zeke can run, catch, and is maybe the best Running Back blocker in the league. Defenses react to the play fake when he is in..and that creates separation and more time for Dak..Zeke is right now the most important component.

  9. And do not forget Dak has been to the playoffs in 2 of his first three years despite having a coach that I would rank in the bottom 4th of NFL coaches. The man I call Gareett Top.

  10. Of course they found a connection. Dak told him not to run a pattern longer than 10 yards.

Since he was HC of the year a couple years ago, I would rather say Dak HAS been to the playoffs the past 2 of the 3 years THANKS to Garrett. but hey potatoes tomatoes. Facts are Dak and Romo have succeeded UNDER Garrett! But this is a team game and the ME crap is getting old. Seems players want it all and not to share just to be 8-8 or 7-9 for the next 10 years. Nope not this time, Stephen and McClay KNOW Dak is just good NOT Elite or dude would have his sack of coin by now. The fans are not blind either.

  12. How many SB’s has Garrett won? Never even got to an NFCCG. Garrett = Marvin Lewis.

  13. Someone mentioned Tomorrow as a future hall of gamer? Ha ha ha ha, the king of piling up regular season stats and choking in the playoffs. If he gets in the HOF, there is something way wrong…

How many did Andy Ried win? Marv Leavy? Marty Schottihimer? Dan Reeves? The list is long, I mean winning a SB is easy thats why ONLY the Patriots have been in contention for the past 12 years.
And Garrett was a BS call catch away from going in Green Bay, Yet we all know the Cowboys are playing not only their opponents but also the refs and Rodger Goodell. Proven Fact – Goodell HATES us and has it out for us.

Dont know how a qb / wr connection turned into a HC issue. but oookay.

The Cowboys didn’t get screwed out of a catch to go to Green Bay. Even if they did get screwed, they were the benefactors of a bogus call to beat Detroit the game before to even be in the spot to get “screwed”.

    ________

First of all, neither Garrett, nor the Cowboys, were screwed over by the refs or the league in the Green Bay game.
The correct call was made exactly to the letter that the rule was written.

And secondly, who cares whether a catch was called or not?
With 4 minutes left in the game, the Cowboys Defense couldn’t stop the Packers, and allowed them to drive the length of the field when all GB was trying to do was run out the clock

Even if the league had bent the rules enough to give Dez Bryant a TD on that play, they still would have lost by a chip shot FG.
Eventually, Cowboy fans have to stop playing this BS card about that game.

  17. Randall Cobb will be the Cowboys Best Receiver hands down,….. “IF” he can stay healthy. That’s the only reason the Packers didn’t make him a contract offer. The past two years he spent more time on the trainers table than the practice field. He missed more than half of the past 2 years.
And beyond football,… the Dallas area will find Randall is very generous with community service volunteering. He’s a great guy. Gonna miss him here.
The best of luck to Cobb,…… except vs GB.

  18. If Cobb can stay healthy — he hasn’t played a full, 16-game schedule since 2015 — he could…

This is the key. Cobb has both missed games, and nursed injuries during games, for the last three years. Clearly not blaming Cobb for the injuries, but the fact remains that injuries hampered his productivity, resulting in him not living up to his contract. As a #2 receiver maybe he was overpaid as well, but if he had remained healthy, he would have provided a unique dynamic and have been a difference-maker on the field. I will never bad-mouth Cobb, but his injuries are Dallas’ problem now, not the Packers. I have no problem still wishing him the best and hoping he stays healthy, despite not being a Cowboys fan.

  19. I hate to say it but I think Dallas receivers match up very favorably to Philadelphia’s secondary.

  20. Cobb was great for the Packers, until he wasn’t. If he follows his recent pattern, he’ll make plays for about 4-6 weeks, then he’ll get injured.

  21. Cobb needed Rodgers to scramble around for 5 seconds to get separation. He looked slow last year. We will see how he does in Dallas.

  22. Time will tell. Cobb has had durability issues the past couple years and has lost a step. Being a veteran guy with leadership ability will be more likely to get him a roster spot than his play, based on the past couple seasons. I hope Cobb has a couple more years in the tank. When he was on the field and not dinged up, he was fun to watch.

  23. Haven’t looked to see if the Bears are on Cowboys schedule, but the last person they want to see is Randall – he killed them with big plays.
