Tim Jernigan only looking forward after rough 2018 season

Defensive tackle Tim Jernigan took a pay cut to return to the Eagles this offseason and that might not have been necessary if he’d had better luck on the injury front last year.

A back injury kept Jernigan out of the first 10 games of the season and he then missed three more after making his 2018 debut in Week 12. The Eagles opted not to pick up his $11 million contract option early in the offseason and he wound up signing back for a base salary of $1.25 million.

Jernigan can bump that total up with per-game roster bonuses and other incentives, which is all the more reason for him to keep his attention on the future rather than the past.

“I’d rather not look back on that situation. It is what it is. It’s over,” Jernigan said, via the team’s website. “My focus is on what’s going on now. I’m just excited about what we’ve got going on here.”

Malik Jackson joined the defensive tackle group this offseason and will likely join Fletcher Cox and Jernigan as the main interior defensive linemen in Philly this season.

  1. He was a baller in ’17 for us before the injury that kept him out of all those games last year first appeared. Hoping he and Malik can form a nice tandem to help take the heat off of Cox all game.

  2. Good outlook since he has only himself to blame. He lost the contract because he got hurt. He got hurt because he did something stupid. They still never said what happened to him, which is why you know it was something stupid.

But at least instead of crying poor me and placing blame, he seems to be taking it on his shoulder and moving forward.

  3. This will be a fun game to watch the Philly media play with Jernigan, this year. The media keeps coming up with different ways of asking “How’d you get hurt?” without actually asking it, and Jernigan keeps coming up with different ways of answering, “Next question.”

  4. Excited about this group of Defensive Tackles. I think Hassan Ridgeway will be a pleasant surprise too as he will play in a 4-3 which he is more effective in than the way the Colts misused him in a 3-4.

  5. Between the LB talent improvements and a hopefully maturing secondary, I’m am hopeful that this Eagles D can be great. I’m less sure about Edge, this is where Sweat, Ostman or Miller could be very helpful to a top 5 D.

  6. Jernigan is an elite run defending DT when healthy. Would not be at all surprised if he sees more snaps than Jackson this year, who will be more valuable on 2nd and long, and 3rd and 2+.

Real jovial dude – beloved in the locker room – probably the best social media follow on the team when the Eagles are in season.

tbis guy was a 1st rd disappointment hence why he was traded

Except he was drafted in the second round and did not quite fit into the defense that Baltimore runs.

Then again this is par for the course with you. The Patriots won another Super Bowl, stop crying over the one they legitimately lost to the Eagles and pissing on every Eagles related thread.

i laughed at baltimore native and ravens fan, mel kipey, praising the pick at the time as i laugh now. In fact he called him “Timmy”.

ozzie newsome was finally fired over another disappointing draft pi k on D, starting with sergio kindle in 2010.

I feel the exact same way. Im hoping at least one of the youngsters steps up and Barnett continues to improve after looking pretty good last season before the injury. I think the solid D tackles pass rush ability will help the D ends.
