DeAndre Hopkins is the only offensive player in Madden 20 to get a 99 rating

Antonio Brown may soon be demanding a trade from Madden.

The Raiders receiver, who earned a 99 rating in the 2019 version of the game, didn’t get a 99 this year. Of four 99s in all, only one plays offense: Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

The other 99 ratings belong to Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Bears linebacker Khalil Mack, and Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner.

To the extent that the cover athlete gets extra consideration, that courtesy didn’t extend to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The reigning NFL MVP didn’t get a 99.

Last year, Madden had seven 99-rated players; Donald is the only holdover.

The ratings rise and fall throughout the season. One or more of the four 99s could go down as the game updates its numbers based on actual performance, and Brown in theory could go up.

The fact that he has publicly complained about being shorted by EA in his payment for being on the cover of last year’s game could make that a little more difficult, however.

  1. When you really look at Michael Thomas’ numbers, and see that he not only catches a ton of passes, but that he also catches a pass at a rate generally achieved by only check down type players. If Thomas didn’t get a 99, then drew Brees should get 100.

  2. Then Jalen Ramsey should also get a 99 for going toe to toe with him on every down twice a year. It’s the best matchup in the NFL right now.

Hopkins 99rating is a reason to skip Madden 20.

Yeah that’s a reason. Not the infinite amount of issues Madden has every year that they ignore, or the features fans beg for they ignore. You can argue all day that there are other receivers who also deserve a 99 rating, but if you don’t think Hopkins deserves a 99 then you either only follow your team blindly, or don’t really follow football. Considering what he has had as far as a team goes, even last year, the man deserves a 99. Asides from a QB who is constantly running from three hundred pound men, Hopkins was pretty much the entirety of the Texan’s offense last year. None of the other top five receivers had a more incomplete team as far as offense goes except maybe Beckham.

  4. Since the NFL is looking into getting out of DirecTV deal….can someone send them a message from al of us video game players to let another NFL console come out aka NFL2k series.

  5. ah yes, that time of year when the most pointless ratings aside from pre-season power rankings come out.

How did Michael Thomas do in the most important game in his life? (NFC Championship Game)
    4 catches for 36 yards, 0 TDs. That’s worth a 99? Really?

  7. The fact that you’re arguing over a video game doesn’t come off as silly and contrived to all of you …

It’s fun and all but madden is a video game ..

  8. Bring back ncaa football and have a myplayer mode that transfers to NFL like they did back in the day and maybe i’ll consider buying the game.

  9. Someone on EA must have been a Texans homer. I mean Hopkins is currently a top 3 WR at least, but I don’t see what warrants the 99 this year, it’s not like he had some Megatron/Adrian Peterson type historic season or something.

And more weird that he’s the only offensive player at all.

  10. Isn’t Bobby working on a new contract and representing himself?

I can just see him showing up for a chat with JS holding a ps4 and a big smile on his face. Schneider would probably laugh.

“But John, check the 99 though!”

I’m only half joking…it has to be worth something being respected like that even still after so many top tier years…he’s passed Luke and is the top MLB in all of football.
