Isaiah Wynn good to go at start of Patriots’ camp

The Patriots won the Super Bowl last season despite getting nothing from their top draft pick, Isaiah Wynn. This year, Wynn appears to be ready to go.

Wynn, an offensive tackle who suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the 2018 preseason, has passed his physical and will not need to start camp on the physically unable to perform list, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

The Patriots will give Wynn every opportunity to earn the starting left tackle job after last year’s starter, Trent Brown, signed with the Raiders in free agency.

Wynn played his college footbal at Georgia and went to the Patriots with the 23rd overall pick in last year’s draft.

  1. Last year Pats had 6 of 9 draftees on IR by end of Sept (most of them before), plus Etling on the PS and Crossen had a hammie, but they got 13 games out of Michel. This year they’re all healthy, so it was like getting two lots of drafts this Spring – I just thought the salty mountain of hate would want to know this! Enjoy the summer.

  2. injuries, every week i just hope the pats don’t have anyone go down. ruins a W and makes the agony of an L that much worse. never want to see it happen to another team either – bad bad karma.

What a terrible job of drafting. You cant base draft picks on injury proned players.

The Patriots WON the SuperBowl. Each player, healthy or injured, in the locker room or on the field, contributed in some way to that achievement. They did a GREAT job of drafting because the team assembled won it all.

  5. The Pats haven’t had a “good” left tackle since Bruce Armstrong. Nobody has lived up to #78.

  6. This year the AFC East is up for grabs! Such parity most teams are mirror images of each other. Except New England. They will dominate again. Unless this is the year Brady starts to decline… will it ever happen?

Taking a risk to get higher value when you can’t pick in the top of the draft seems pretty smart to me… And the results have been pretty good wouldn’t you say?

Except Matt Light won 3 Super Bowls protecting Brady. I’d say he was pretty damn good.

He’s a bust just like Sony Michel would be if the o line man would be called for holding

    ——————
Sony had a top 5 all time performance for a RB in the playoffs. His stats were only matched by a small handful of HOF guys. So pretty far from a bust. They call holding the same in every game for every team, so that’s irrelevant.

Once hes on the PEDlman plan, hes good to go.

Imagine the work Wynn put in for the last year just to have a chance to play in the NFL after not being able to show his new team anything. Then he has to deal with comments like that.

  11. The Pats haven’t had a “good” left tackle since Bruce Armstrong. Nobody has lived up to #78.

    Yeah Matt Light was terrible…eyeroll.
Armstrong is great with individual stats and awards..Light, not far behind but with something else…an actual Playoff record and 3 rings.

  12. Patriots fans crying over a rookie LG being out all year. Try being a team like the eagles (who beat you in the superbowl with our QB, LT, MLB, RB, and a broken Alshon) or the vikings, colts, and panthers who always seem to be injured all the time too. But boohoo here come the patriots fans for losing 1 player last year.

A good line and a nice dig!! Still, I hope that Isaiah Wynn has recovered and has an excellent season and a long, great career!!!

Fortunately for the Pats, fewer statements are less true than the above. With Matt Light, Nate Solder, and Trent Brown the Pats have been fortunate to be continually solid at Left Tackle. They struggled some the year Solder was injured, but they have done well at that spot and, obviously, pretty much everywhere.

You can make a fair argument that Armstrong was better than the three I mentioned, and I would agree with that argument, but all were “good” or better for the Pats.

Wait, you’re a Dolphins fan saying NE does a terrible job of drafting? How can the team that has done the best in terms of drafting and developing younger players the last 10 years, somehow have done a “terrible” job?

    LOL!

  16. Well, there’s some good news heading into camp….. let’s just hope things continue to trend in that direction for him & the rest of the players as training camp progresses!!!
    Go Pats!!!!

Right, that’s why the Patriots haven’t won a Superbowl since 1974! Oh no wait, that’s the Dolphins.

  18. LOL at the comments criticizing the Pats’ drafting. They get the lowest picks almost every single year bc they’re so good, yet somehow they keep filling out their roster with quality.

I just have to laugh when any Dolphins fan criticizes the Patriots for ANYTHING football related. Since 2001, the Dolphins have been in the playoffs three times, by way of the Wild Card, and lost each game, with a combined score of 77-24. During that time the team has had something like 9 coaches and 18 different QBs. Since 1966 the team has a losing record in the playoffs.

Have the Pats missed on some players in the draft? Sure, just like every team , but when you are annually picking at the back-end of each round, it’s more challenging. I think all in all, the results speak quite well for the team’s ability to manage personnel.

  20. Another year & the Pats will be AFC EAST. Champs again…
    Wash, Rinse REPEAT!!
    Next stop…. Super Bowl Baby!!!

  21. Everybody with the “haven’t had a good left tackle since…” talk take a breath and a moment. use the Google and look up Leon Gray and reflect. It takes a complete team to win it all, but the Pats certainly have had the pieces and parts, Wynn will have his chance to fill big shoes

They’ll end up like Seattle…Get really old and expensive fast, polishing their laurels from years ago, and it will be a slow fade.

I am not sure Roseman gets that their is a salary cap. lmao
