Texans hold Lonnie Johnson out of joint practice with Packers

AP

The Packers weren’t particularly happy with Texans cornerback Lonnie Johnson, and some of the hits he was delivering in yesterday’s joint workout.

They won’t have to worry about them today.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans are holding Johnson out of today’s second day of practices in Green Bay.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien tossed Johnson from yesterday’s practice when things got a little heated, but said afterward it was “not a big deal.”

Keeping him out Tuesday may simply be a goodwill gesture, after the Packers were unhappy with Johnson’s aggressive play and posing over tight end Jace Sternberger after one hit.

They’ll ostensibly see him in Thursday’s preseason game, when the expectations are naturally different.

  1. Better keep your head on a swivel Thursday night young man… I’m sure there are a few Packers that would love to add a little something to your Instagram post… #tool

  2. Too bad. I wouldn’t want to miss joint practice. Sounds like a lot of fun.

  3. Sounds like D J Swearinger 2.0. Considering drafting the guy was a real reach to start with, and the GM that drafted him got fired, he might think about learning to be a football player instead of trying to be Macho Man.

  4. I love how everyone is blaming Johnson for missing the practice. I don’t think this was his decision at all…. This will make the preseason game much more interesting though.

That said…. fights happen at these joint practices ALL the time. Not something to get up in arms over.

Tough guy can’t take what’s coming to him, just like Anthony Barr.

Retribution threat for legal hit? Barr is still waiting, two years now

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Nobody is questioning that. But two vicious, unprotected hits IN A NON-TACKLING SESSION, is a little different. It would fade away if the rookie Einstein didn’t post a bunch of crap afterwards.

Who does he think he is……Anthony Barr?

  7. Za’Darius Smith and a Texans OL got into it a bit. The full Packers defense and Texans offense came together and scuffled for a minute already today.

  8. Jordy was at practice after his presser where he officially announced he is retiring as a Packer.👏

My fav line of the day was when Jordy said that when he left the Raiders and told his son that they were moving back home to Kansas, his son said: “My home is Green Bay.”

Agreed, this happens almost every single time that teams hold joint practices. It’s hot and humid, tempers flare and for better or worse someone lights someone up. Hell a lot of times its teammate on teammate in OTAs or minicamp. Didn’t green bay just have an issue with Josh Jones getting in a practice fight a few days ago? This isn’t soccer folks this happens every year.

You mean like Aaron Rogers? Gets hit hard and then whines for weeks?

The packers had two chances to light him up last year. No one did anything other than Aaron flapping his gums in the first game. Can’t take a hit if no one throws one.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Example please.

All I recall is Rodgers breaking his leg and wearing a brace for eight games, playing with a strained hamstring for two more game, missing the last game in concussion protocol, and still outperforming Kirk “Guaranteed” Cousins………while never complaining once!

Quit whining Pack. The guy he hit said it was no big deal.

    —-

The guy he hit had his jaw looked at today and was held out for concussion-like symptoms. Maybe you should quit whining?

  14. Unless O’Brien wants to see Johnson eating through a straw for about a month after Thursday’s game he probably may want to hold him out of that game too. I’ll be very surprised if some receivers aren’t looking for him for some old testament retribution.

    _________

He doesn’t need to complain. He has people like you to do it for him.

  16. Yeah Rodgers did ourperform Cousins. If you don’t value things like wins, qb rating, completion percentage. But yeah the excuses he totally won in those!

  17. Aaron Rogers whined for 3 weeks straight after Barr sacked him. Whined. For those Packer fans who have a selective memory.
