Damien Williams back at practice for Chiefs

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said over the weekend that running back Damien Williams was missing “quite a bit” while on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, but his absence from the practice field has come to an end.

Williams is taking part in practice with the rest of the team at training camp on Wednesday. Williams missed more than a week of on-field work while recovering from the injury.

The Chiefs committed to Williams as their starting running back multiple times this offseason. Williams had not served as a No. 1 back during his NFL career before the Chiefs turned his way late last season, but did well by running for 203 yards in three regular season starts and adding 250 more yards from scrimmage in two playoff outings.

Reid said that Carlos Hyde was “taking advantage” of increased work while Williams was out and would likely be the next guy up if the Chiefs feel Williams isn’t handling the job.

  1. Wierd how KC seems to find Running Backs that nobody else wanted. Christian Okoye, Barry Word, Priest Holmes, Kareem Hunt. Pretty sure William’s will be another one.

Dude, Christian Okoye was drafted by the Chiefs, in the 2nd round.

  3. Said it before and will say it again, I’m concerned with William’s durability and longevity as a starter. He was completely wore out before the end of the Indy playoff game. He’s got talent, but cannot keep it up through a full game.

Yeah because every running back from Azuza Pacific is Hiesman material. Dude they took a chance on a running back no one else had even heard off. Pretty he wasn’t even on most teams draft board.

To further illustrate the original point, let’s not forget Joe Delaney. Additionally, legal problems notwithstanding, Bam Morris and Tamarick Vanover. Although Vanover was never “officially” a RB, he lined up in the backfield with some success.
