Jalen Ramsey thinking about Titans, Raiders as future destinations

In what could be a potential first for a pending free agent, Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey is tampering with himself.

He’s made clear from the moment he reported to training camp that he’s ready to get paid, and he’s even picked out a few potential destinations in case the Jaguars don’t make him sufficiently rich.

Via John Reid of the Florida Times-Union, Ramsey taped an episode of the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast (with Titans tackle Taylor Lewan and former linebacker Will Compton) over the summer in which he revealed his potential wish list.

Asked where he’d like to play if he left Jacksonville, Ramsey replied: ″It would probably be either here [Titans] or Vegas [Raiders].″

Ramsey is a native of Nashville.

Of course, this is all a hypothetical, since the Jaguars picked up his $13.7 million option for 2020, and could always franchise tag him in 2021 (and perhaps even 2022), limiting his mobility for the moment.

That’s not going to stop him from talking about his upcoming payday as often as possible, constantly reminding the Jaguars he wants to make top cornerback money, not top-10 money.

  1. It seems likely that his entire team will tire of hearing his antics long before a franchise tag. He isn’t going to win JAX (or any other team) a SB for any amount of money. Maybe JAX should find him a place on a nice comfortable roster that can afford his overinflated contract wishes, where if all goes well he could win nearly 4 games every season.

How does his whole team not hate this kid.

Because they are grown men who understand the nature of the business. The NFL is not Rudy nor Hoosiers.

  3. This isn’t nearly as egregious as a San Francisco QB wearing a Miami Dolphin hat…anyone remember that…? lol

  4. The teammates, and Jags fans, don’t hate the kid because they know that most of that is merely gamesmanship and bravado.

True Jags fans KNOW that he is one of the hardest working, if not the hardest, guys on the team and he is constantly working to improve his game. ALWAYS working. And he haaaaates losing.

You may dislike him, but Jags fans LOVE him. #DUUUUVALLLL

Whole team hate him? Hate a guy who balls out every Sunday for his team. Sounds more like you hate him. But I get it, people hate when they can’t relate.

Believe it or not but some players goal is to win the super bowl so having your focus on money instead of winning I imagine doesn’t create an environment winners want.

  7. What makes him think the Titans or Raiders pay him top money ? Chances are he won’t get the money he’s looking for from those teams. The Raiders got rid of their best defensive player in K Mack because they didn’t want to pay him last year. I don’t see the Titans breaking the bank for him either.

  8. No doubt great player but seems like a jerk. In the video of his interview with Peter King he is arrogant and comes across as being troubled to have to sit down and talk to Peter King.

So Jacksonville should punish him by shipping him off to the Jaguars, where he could win nearly 4 games every season?

And they are also friends, acquaintances, and family with long-lasting relationships and bonds formed, and he’s telling his teammates and his fans he doesn’t care about them. It’s not all about the money for every great player. Some also want to win and some also want to show their loyalty. See the Viking’s Anthony Barr, or teammates Everson Griffen and Eric Kendricks taking pay cuts to keep their teammates there.

  11. NFLPA must get rid of the barriers to free agency. Team options on 1st rounders, transition tags, franchise tags, all prevent the player from being paid at market rates.

  12. Apparently Ramsey isn’t to bright. I could see Gruden and Mayock going since you want to be a Raider we will offer you around $8 million a year take it or leave. Only an very stupid idiot would give away any bargaining power. I do see the Jag’s tagging him in 2021 or a trade to one of the dumpster fire teams with moron owners and GM’s (Jets, Redskins, Miami, Cleveland (still need to win something before they are off this list), 49ers and Arizona).

HE WAS BORN AND RAISED IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. That’s why he wants to play there.

LOYALTY IS A TWO-WAY STREET. If Jacksonville doesn’t show loyalty by rewarding it’s star players with market-value contracts, then Ramsey isn’t obligated to stay and get shafted with a under-market deal.

And it’s BS that you think fans CARE about specific players. If a player you’ve always hated suddenly signs with your favorite team, you’d be the first fan to buy his jersey.

There’s no state tax in Nevada and it’s a lot of fun too.

I wasn’t going to watch the video until I read your post. What video did you watch? I’m glad I watched it because you could not be any more wrong. He did not display one bit of arrogance and he certainly didn’t seemed troubled to speak with Peter King. He smiled, he laughed, he answered the questions thoughtfully, he wasn’t rude. I wasn’t onboard with his training camp entrance, however it was interesting to see how it came about. In fact, he came across as a really nice kid.

  17. Ramsey is under contract for this coming season and the next. And then there’s the franchise tag for a year or two. As long as he keeps ballin’, he’ll get paid. It might not be on HIS time schedule, but he’ll get his. He’s awesome and fun, a really good kid. I just wish he’d tone it down a little. But I’m an old guy, so what do I know.

  18. “Because they are grown men who understand the nature of the business. The NFL is not Rudy nor Hoosiers.”

You confident that they all feel that way? Meaning, more directly, would you bet on every Jag (and every Titan or Raider, for that matter) being totally cool with Ramsay’s recurring statements?
