For now, it looks like Bills, Browns, others were lucky to not land Antonio Brown

As the Raiders play their first preseason game with receiver Antonio Brown on the roster — and as Brown is nowhere to be seen or even mentioned by the Raiders’ employees broadcasting the game on TV — multiple other NFL teams are likely smiling tonight.

First, and most obviously, the Steelers. While it appeared that the Steelers got the short end of a deal that sent only a third-round and fifth-round pick to Pittsburgh for one of the best receivers in football, it’s currently looking like the Steelers fleeced the Raiders.

Second, the Bills were ready to trade for Brown but Brown wanted nothing to do with the Bills. And the Bills should be popping the bubbly over the fact that Brown isn’t their problem right now.

Third, while a trade between the Steelers and the Browns wasn’t likely, Cleveland has to be feeling pretty good about getting Odell Beckham Jr. instead of Brown. Yes, it required more trade compensation, but the Browns got OBJ’s contract as is with not adjustment (yet), and Beckham has been a model citizen in comparison to Brown, who has continued a pattern of erratic and unpredictable behavior that the Steelers quietly tolerated for years — and that may be approaching critical mass if Brown is serious about not playing if he can’t wear a helmet that can’t be certified for use due to the fact that it’s more than 10 years old.

Fourh, any other team that even pondered the possibility of trading for Brown has to be counting their blessings for not making a serious run at the player. While the current ugliness may pass and Brown may become as good as he ever was, it’s currently looking like the Raiders have made in trading for Brown the mirror image of the mistake they made in trading Khalil Mack last year.

  1. you guys should send AB a check. Can’t remember the last time I have seen 5 different posts about a guy saying he might not play if he doesn’t get to wear a certain lid. He is playing you guys while he recovers. IF this goes on during the year I will eat my words but this is just talk and bs.

Brown is trying to force a trade. This helmet thing is all a stunt to anger Gruden a get shipped out

He burned his feet and can’t play – all of this other stuff is a distraction to avoid that discussion.

  3. I know all Raider fans are hoping that it’s all a ruse because of the feet. However, according to the twitter link supplied in another article, the helmet thing started before the frostbitten feet. So, I wouldn’t count on it all blowing over when his footsies heal. The Raiders will quickly find out, they won’t be able to stroke AB’s ego enough.

  4. He can wear the same style helmet just not the one that’s been getting beat on for the last decade. He needs to quit being such a baby and wear the same model but not old. He is just out of his mind. I would wear a leather old school helmet for his pay. What an idiot.

I highly doubt it, because I don’t think Brown even knows what he wants. And IF you are correct, then Brown is even more of an idiot than I thought. Well, that’s not possible. It makes him just as much of an idiot as I thought.

  6. If I can’t play at this exact moment (feet)… I’ll see what leverage I can yield by not playing at this exact moment…

    Haters gon’ hate..

  7. The Browns were never interested in AB. He would have stayed in the AFC North, that’s not going to happen, ever. This guy would NEVER be welcomed in Cleveland after that kick to the chest plate of our kicker. Now Karma has reared it’s ugly head again. AB cannot play and the Steelers are not the talk of the AFC North anymore.

  8. “Second, the Bills were ready to trade for Brown but Brown wanted nothing to do with the Bills.”

    That narrative is still funny.

If the Bills wanted him badly enough, they could’ve had him…but they didn’t want to pay a lot for him because he’s a head case, and he wanted more money.

Not many Bills fans wanted this to happen either.

  9. Gruden won’t put up with this nonsense for long. Remember, he had Keyshawn Johnson when he was in Tampa and eventually just sent him home. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do that with AB. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they look to void his contract. AB has turned into a nutjob.

  10. When it comes to being a narcissistic diva, AB makes TO and Ochocinco look like amateurs. Keep it up AB, you are first class clown entertainment!

  11. If Brown can’t play or plays a partial year and takes time to recover then the Steelers saved paying an unproductive player 1 year of a high salary. That needs to be factored into the trade as well.

  12. All these reports but oddly no quotes from anyone who would actually know. Brady whined abouht helmets the last few years and it was hardly reported
