Aaron Rodgers, Packers starters will play “a quarter or so” on Thursday

The Packers travel to Baltimore for their second preseason game on Thursday night. And the folks who show up at M&T Bank Stadium will get to see quarterback Aaron Rodgers play.

Via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, coach Matt LaFleur told reporters on Tuesday that Rodgers and the rest of the starters will play “a quarter or so” against the Ravens.

Since 2014, Rodgers has appeared in one or two preseason games each year. In 2018, he threw four passes in a Week Two game at Pittsburgh. In 2017, he played in two preseason games, with 13 passes thrown. In 2016, he appeared in one exhibition contest, throwing nine passes.

In 2015, Rodgers played in the first two preseason games, throwing a stunning 19 times in the first game and five in the second. The year before, it was 13 passes in Week Two and 20 in Week Three.

Rodgers last played in three preseason games in 2013. He appeared in all four in 2012 and 2011, three in 2010, and four in 2009 and 2008.

The reduction in Rodgers’ preseason reps reflects broader trends in the NFL; Rodgers has spoken out regarding the NFL’s lingering habit of four preseason games. It will be interesting to see whether and to what extent he plays in Green Bay’s third preseason game. As the Packers implement their first new offense since before Rodgers became the starter, the extra reps can’t hurt.

  1. As the Packers implement their first new offense since before Rodgers became the starter, the extra reps can’t hurt.
    ____
The extra reps have a higher probability of hurting as Rodgers gets even older, 35 going on 36. Rodgers has shown recently he has trouble staying healthy on the field.

  2. geesh, I wonder what made Aaron change his mind about playing preseason football? The answer is Aaron made a decision for everyone to play, that simple. He never wanted to play preseason ib the past but now he has no choice bcuz he made a choice for himself. lol

  3. Yeah, MLF said both offensive and defensive starters will play about a quarter.

I know many here only obsess on Aaron, but MLF is talking about the whole team when he speaks.

Keep thinking about your idol. We talk about the team and the team is getting ready for the 2019 season.

    Should be fun Thursday nite.👍

    #GoPackGo!🏈

  4. Rodgers can do whatever he wants because he’s Aaron Rodgers. Cousins has to tow the line because he’s Kirk Cousins.

    See the difference?

  5. He never wanted to play preseason ib the past but now he has no choice bcuz he made a choice for himself. lol

  6. Haters gonna hate. Every story about the Packers brings the bottom feeders out from behind their Mom’s aprons.

  7. It’ll be good to see Aaron out there in a game again. Even if it is only a preseason game.

He obviously needs to get in some practice with the new kid coach watching. Matt needs to know how to help Aaron run things in a game setting. And Aaron can decide how he wants to ignore Matt’s calls, too.

  8. I want to see a few young players, otherwise I have a hard time watching these preseason games. Plus I watch while holding my breath that some young player, or anyone, will get hurt, like Orin Burke.

  9. In a silent protest in response to his new HC forcing him to play in a preseason game, Rodgers will throw nothing but incomplete passes.

That under 5 yard bounce pass needs to be perfected so he can get LaFleur fired in game 1 of the regular season.

  10. This is a team that is playing because they have too, not because they are hungry. At this rate they will be lucky if next year is not a rebuilding year as well.

  11. They could play all 19 quarters in this game. The end result:

The will NEVER win as many 1970s Division Championships as the Might Vikings did.

    NEVER.

    Huh??

  12. Lotsa Viking-troll Rodgers haters here today. Funny, I’ve never heard a single one of them get on Adrian Peterson’s case about anything, ever. Not once. They’re all very selectively judgmental.

    Jealous much?

Yeah the difference is Cousins is 4-1-1 against Rodgers.

  14. In today’s news: Aaron Rodgers on Matt LaFleur: “I don’t need to go out there and prove to everybody how great Matt and I are getting along… look, we’re having a great time and we’re communicating. The conjecture is for clickbait news stories that you guys can put on your websites.”

There sure is a lot of wasted and expended energy spent on hating Rodgers.

Love it. I love that he bothers the trolls enough for them to take time out of their day to whine about it. Love it.

What did the mighty, vaunted Vikings accomplish during this power-vacuum “era,” besides attaboys?

    What was that?

If Aaron needs to talk about it, it obviously bothers the “sensitive one”…

His false claims just show how much it bothers him.

Since you asked the Vikings have accomplished exposing Erin Rodgers as a gimmicky fraud and the Packers as a third rate clown show organization. So there’s that.

Are you referring to the Why Your Team Sucks 2019: Green Bay Packers article I posted quotes from? Well I will copy more. Have you seen the comments from Packer fans in the story. Hoot!

Sure, and you don’t care anything about them, at all. That’s why you’re here fifteen times per post and oftentimes among the first. Nah……..we’re not deep under your skin. Not at all.

    Love it.

  22. In other news today: Treadwell officially named top ten bust entering a season for redemption…….unless the sun fails to rise.

  23. Deadspin writer does all teams every year. He’s a Viking fan. He always saves them for last. The Vikings always give him his best material. It hasn’t come out yet.

Be careful what you wish for.

Guess this clown forgot about the game the refs stole with the horrible roughing call on Clay Matthews. That negated a INT that wouldve ended the game.

A written and published opinion can be. It’s called plagiarism. “Plagiarism is copying another person’s ideas, words or writing and pretending that they are one’s own work.” If you don’t provide credits, you’re a fake. You don’t care. You have no ethics, so carry on.

That would actually take quotation marks. skoLOL!
You copied and pasted an entire paragraph from it and tried passing it off as your opinion.
    It’s called plagiarism!

  27. Makes sense Rodgers would play more to try out the new system in live action. And based on the comments above, I’m not sure who’s more popular — stellar or Rodgers?

  28. “What did the mighty, vaunted Vikings accomplish during this power-vacuum “era,” besides attaboys?”

    ……..still waiting.

  29. every rodgers article these guys are here commenting. your whole life is PFT comments. lol. tell me.. is this the year the vikings finally win it all? is it? c’mon, tell us what you think. did you buy a kirk cousins jersey yet or are you waiting for him to beat a winning team.

So i did not think Packer fans were entitled living their ives as if the Packer’s past accomplishments were theirs until I read Why Your Team Sucks 2019: Green Bay Packers article with funny comments from Packer fans? Seems like a stretch. I think everyone should check out the article and form their own opinion on the matter and not copy their own opinion

  31. “The conjecture is for clickbait news stories that you guys can put on your websites.”

    =======

Aaron looks at the reporters gathered at his locker with a grin and says: “Not you guys..I mean I like most of the people in here. Except for you John”(John Kuhn who works for Packers media now)

Aaron’s pressers are always must see. It’s like 15 to 18 minutes of gold every single time.👏

why would I want to pass it off on my own why my objective was to have everyone read the article and see the pictures of letters packers fans sent that I could not copy and paste here? Again this is supposedly plagiarized from Why Your Team Sucks 2019: Green Bay Packers article with high comedy in the comment section.

  33. The Deadspin article entitled, Why your Team Sucks 2019: Green Bay Packers is a yearly satirical look at the previous year, as well as the upcoming forecast for the team. It was authored by a self admitted hardcore Viking fan.
Cheese is fattening, basically copied and pasted a good portion of it, word for word, and certainly tried to make it seem as if it was his own.
Embarrassing, yes, but from some of the dumb and useless takes I’ve seen on this site, certainly not the worst.

    ___________

The Packers have been downright terrible over the last two seasons.
    Let’s just own it.
One or two bad drafts, eschewing free agency, and a general coaching laziness led the way to this happening.

Stop harping over a single call.
Bad calls happen every game, let it go.
Even if the Packers had won that game, it wouldn’t have made them a better team.
It was a bad patch and it’s time to move on.

It’s time to look forward, towards what could be a very bright future.
New coaching, new roster and a fresh attitude, embrace it.
I realize nothing’s guaranteed, but it’s far better than clutching to an old, tired regime, pushing the same old failed concepts so many other teams seem content to do. Again and again.

Let the Barneys enjoy the few wins and that tie their team managed while Green Bay was struggling.
After all, it’s their Super Bowls.

Blame your own team for having a notorious cheap shot artist on roster. If it was anyone else other than Fabio maybe there wouldn’t have been a flag. Suck it up buttercup.
