Patriots waive Danny Etling

The Patriots’ attempt to find their own version of Taysom Hill, or perhaps a new Julian Edelman, is over.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Patriots have waived rookie quarterback/wide receiver Danny Etling.

Last year’s seventh-round pick, he hung around on the practice squad as a quarterback, before they tried to transition him to receiver this offseason.

While it might have been an interesting story, he was always a long shot to make it at a new position, on a team with a number of new faces there.

  1. There just wouldn’t be the snaps needed for a 4th QB. Even on a practice squad. Stidham is most certainly worthy of 3rd string reps. Good luck #5.

  2. Pats liked him because he worked very hard and is a smart kid, just doesn’t have what it takes to be an NFL QB. It was a long shot to become a receiver and that opportunity was given only because they like the guy.

Now they’re doing him a favor cutting him early while there’s a chance he can catch on somewhere else.

His accuracy is poor, IMO. Good athlete, though. He could possibly morph into a move TE if he wanted to add some weight.

Smart move by Etling. That’s a good way to stay a Patriot for his whole career if he can contribute at a high enough level.

Another Edelman in the making? He would be a big bodied WR. This a no risk personnel move and classic Patriots recognizing a player’s best skill set and putting him in a position to succeed. If it works, Patriots could have formations where 3 QB’s are on field at same time. Another game planning puzzle for opponents.

A similar move turned out pretty well for some guy by the name of Julian Edelman.

Wide-receiver and back-up QB saves an extra roster spot. Brilliant, especially if he can catch.

LMAO Patriots homers sure are funny.

Feel free to Google the word Fanatic and then realize that’s what the word “Fan” means.

Oh no, fans got excited by their team. Wow. Big gotcha moment there.🙄

Where did you get 45 minutes from? Maybe that would take you long. For me, less than 5 minutes.
