Mike Zimmer: Vikings trying to showcase Laquon Treadwell

The Vikings are doing everything but putting a “For Sale” sign on Laquon Treadwell‘s jersey.

After last week’s report that the Vikings are shopping Treadwell, he led the team with 47 receiving yards on four catches in Sunday night’s preseason game. After the game, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer made no secret that the Vikings wanted to show other teams what Treadwell can do.

“We were trying to get Treadwell the ball a little bit more in the second half, try to showcase him a little bit, I guess. And he made some nice plays,” Zimmer said.

Realistically, it’s hard to see any team trading for Treadwell, who has a $1.8 million salary this season. He’s been a major disappointment since the Vikings selected him in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, and if he’s in the NFL at all this year it’s likely to be because he catches on with some other team after the Vikings cut him.

  1. no one and I mean NO ONE is going to trade anything for Treadwell….if a GM does they need to immediately fired or put in front of a firing squad depending on what they give up for him…

  2. People love Bebe, I don’t. Treadwell is better. If he can just hold onto the ball.

  3. It’s sorta like trying to sell a slightly used Lexus………without any wheels. Good luck with that.

  4. Definitely one time when honesty is not the best policy. And no, he isn’t better than Beebe. Or Zylstra. Treadwell has shown he cannot compete against the best players and succeed. A single preseason game doesn’t erase three years of film.

  5. The Vikings have lost faith in him, no matter what he does he is gone. There are times when a second chance with a different team wakes a player up. Treadwell’s ego has led him to believe a 1st round pick gets to cruse through games. I have seen him make spectacular catches but he takes too many plays off. He is like Randy Moss without the talent. I have seen too many passes bounce off of his hands, pads, helmet, to do anything but say cut the loose end.

  6. Treadwell, so disappointing. Even last night the “showcase” showed him making a short catch and falling down. At best he’s a possession receiver who has trouble catching the ball consistently.

  7. Which reminds me of the Alex Marvez tweet stating the Chiefs tried to trade up to take Laquon but the Vikings got him instead.

And then the Chiefs got Tyreke Hill at 165.

See, but holding onto the ball is really the key to being a wide receiver. Beebe does that. That’s why we like him better than Treadwell.

  9. Zylstra is a big body receiver that can replace Treadwell. Treadwell seems to be a good guy it just hasn’t clicked here. He has had multiple QB’s and OC’s and maybe that is part of his troubles here. At any rate I don’t see him in the Vikings future much longer.Good luck with your next team Laquon.

  10. If this guy was going to succeed, it was going to be with the most storied NFL team ever, the MINNESOTA VIKINGS. Champions of the NFC Central the most times in the 1970s.

    Hahaha I win.

  11. Maybe if the box him with a 7th round pick they will be able to get rid of him for and 8th round pick.

So you’re comparing a projected first round draft pick (Treadwell) that everyone knew would go in the first round, to a domestic violence player (Hill) who pled guilty to strangling & punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach, who wasn’t invited to the combine & most teams took off their draft board completely.
If you’re really a packer fan, you’re making the rest look pretty stupid.

  13. No it isn’t. Bebe does the holding for place kicking & isn’t doing too well. He also has missed several blocks on runs. He hasn’t held on to many in 2 regular season games.

Treadwell is a tremendous blocker & special teams player. He is big & strong. Playing as a 3rd TE is an option. They had him as the 3rd TE on Mattison’s TD.

Bebe is too small. Much like your brain.

There’s so much more to football that you just don’t understand.
