The Patriots suffered a handful of injuries during Thursday night’s game against the Panthers and one of them may have cost them a key special teams player for the entire 2019 season.

Linebacker Brandon King was carted off the field after getting injured during the second quarter of the game. Jim McBride of the Boston Globe reports that King is likely to miss the rest of the year after being diagnosed with a torn quadriceps muscle.

King has appeared in 57 regular season games and 11 postseason games over the last four seasons. He’s been credited with 42 tackles and a forced fumble while playing more than half the special teams snaps each year.

Tight end Ben Watson went for a concussion evaluation after taking a late hit from Panthers safety Eric Reid.

Linebacker Kyle Van Noy, safety Nate Ebner, running back Damien Harris, wide receiver Gunner Olszewski, and tight end Lance Kendricks also got medical attention during the game, but McBride reports none of those injuries are thought to be serious.

  1. We’re seeing so many muscle tears, ACL’s, Achilles and heat trauma injuries in the modern day NFL. It’s almost as if the muscles have mysteriously grown so much they’re overwhelming ligaments, tendons and bones. Any ideas why that is? It’s a head scratcher. Or not

  2. King has been a good 5th Safety of sorts and STs guy, but he was going to have a hard time making the team this year. NE is loaded at Safety and Linebacker.

Former Jet, Terrence Brooks, also good on STs was seeing time with the 1s last night.

All in all, NEs starters escaped any nasty preseason injuries after dismantling Carolina.

  3. A huge blow. Even if he comes back, he won’t have the strength and mobility he’ll need to perform well.

  4. Seems the Pats always start with key players injured. BB manages the squad then they come back rested and ready to go late in the season. In BB we trust.

Brandon King was not on the bubble (not even close to the bubble). He’s one of the best special team players that BB always holds in high regard. This hurts the Patriots, but makes Nate Ebner’s position much more secure.

considering numerous offensive starters didn’t play and gostkowski missed yet another kick, yes it was utter domination for anyone who watched it. check the stat lines, dummy

not saying he didn’t have any value..I am simply saying they really like Terrence Brooks and signed him for a reason. They had him in the Chung role last night and that is not an easy role. For a new guy to be trusted in that role from the Safety spot is big.

Bolden back, Brooks adding his STs prowess, etc, are good upgrades from last year’s group.

The STs were awful for the first half of last season. King is a good STs player but so is thew guy Brooks. BB has been planning to replace Chung which is why Melinfonwu is in there as well. His chances just went up as well.

Much easier to take an injury like this than elsewhere, IMO.

Can’t blame Gostkowski, LACES WERE IN!!!

seriously though, i can’t wait to see all the 1st team defensive starters play. The flashes we have seen in preseason have me salivating…

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a torn quad. OUCH!
