Josh Gordon in full pads at Sunday’s practice

AP

Patriots receiver Josh Gordon is back in practice shape if not game shape.

According to multiple reports, Gordon was dressed in full pads and wearing a helmet. It’s an indication Gordon has passed his physical and is off the non-football injury list.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Gordon on Aug. 16. The Patriots placed Gordon on NFI two days later.

His return to the 90-player roster will move him a step closer to playing the Patriots’ season opener.

The Patriots added receivers Julian Edelman and Demaryius Thomas to their active roster last week, removing them from the physically unable to perform list.

Safety Patrick Chung returned to practice Sunday, according to Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. He missed a practice session last week and the preseason game against Carolina after news broke of his indictment in Belknap County, New Hampshire, on felony cocaine possession charges.

  1. Not to be a hater, but how can a guy that has felony drug charges be allowed to be out there playing?
Just curious about that. I know he has not been formally tried in court yet but come on now..

Not to be a hater, but have you read even the most basic information about the charges? Come on now.

  3. “Somehow the league let the Pats get ridiculously deep at RB, WR, and defense.” What exactly did the “league” do? It’s the personnel guys and coaches that created this depth. Some organizations are better at it than others.

The phrase you are searching for is “Innocent until proven guilty.

The CBA does not allow the commissioner to take any action since this is a nonviolent offense. Not to mention that was his vacation home and he was not even in residence there, only construction workers.

  6. As a Pats fan I must say that Bill letting Gordon back in is the most Un- Bellichickian thing he has ever done. Bench Butler and waste a Superbowl roster spot for no reason, but let a guy back who left the team in a lurch in the middle of the season? Never try to predict what Bill is going to do!

Having said that I hope it works out this time- Gordon saved our bacon last year. Would think Bill would make him and Thomas play the last Pre-season game to see where they are at.

“…innocent until proven guilty…” only applies in a court of law. It has absolutely nothing to do with running routes for your employer on Sundays…stop trying to play keyboard attorney.

Chung was never arrested. He was simply issued a summons. It was also reported that nearly everyone in the community where this happened is allowed to enter a treatment program with no jail time. Not to make light of the situation because there’s nothing light about cocaine, but it seems that there won’t be any punishment from law enforcement. Also, I don’t remember Chung ever failing a pee test…

  9. This team is loaded on defense, offense, and special teams. It proves once again the genius of Belichick as a GM and how he manages to build a super team in the cap era. It is unprecedented and won’t likely be repeated by anyone else.

The charges won’t stick. Pretty much news about nothing. See the 2002 Stoudemire case.

  11. Gordon is back…. at least for now…..
Hope he can make it this time but won’t be shocked if he doesn’t…… it’s up to HIM!!!!!

  12. It’s funny to see Patriots fans on here defending Gordon, a numerous offender of the banned substance policy, and Chung who is facing charges on cocaine. That shouldn’t come as any surprise though. They showed “Free Hernandez” signs as he was heading back and forth from court. They also conveniently ignored the reason Michael Floyd was cut after being arrested for extreme DUI. Curiously, Patriots fans are the first to condemn other teams for having guys like this on their roster.

    no, we are not

hernandez was released before he was even arrested

an addiction issue like Gordon has is not anything close to domestics, and other off field, egregious incidents seen around the league

Reasoning with a patriot fan is like trying to reason with a drug addict why drugs are bad for you. Sorry Chung and Gordon. Pun attended

  15. It must really suck being a fan of a losing team. You have to spend your life hating the champs. How about you make your team better that might shut up us Pats fans.

  18. Thank GOD the regular season is coming soon…..if I have to listen to the fans of other teams whine & complain about anything & everything Patriots related, I’ll at least get so do it while my favorite team is winning……
Looking forward to seeing the Team Bill ultimately intends to field….
