Raiders sign Corey Liuget

Defensive lineman Corey Liuget spent the last five months as a free agent, but his long wait to find a team for the 2019 season has come to an end.

The Raiders announced on Sunday that Liuget has signed with the team. There’s no word on the terms of the deal.

The team also announced that running back Doug Martin has been placed on injured reserve. There was a report earlier in the day that Martin was released, but that proved to be erroneous. The Raiders also signed linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams and released long snapper Andrew DePaola.

Liuget became a free agent when the Chargers opted not to exercise their option on his contract for this season. He’s coming off a season-ending torn quadriceps in 2018, but was a regular starter when healthy for the Raiders’ AFC West rivals over the last eight seasons.

  1. Odd. DT and WR are deep this year. I hope they are not going to try and practice squad Anthony Rush, he’ll be scooped up quick. May be time for Jelly and Hall to start worrying. Rooting for both of them to make it. Maybe he replaces Westbrooks? I would have thought Westbrooks a lock

  2. Eh. Maybe they get a good look at him and see if there is anything left in the 4th preseason game. Many will get huge amounts of playing time while everyone that’s already made the team will get to sit.

Nothing says he’s made the team already.

  3. the former first rd pick is only 29, but final 53 interior d-line will be tough to decide. JellyBean, Hankins, Hurst, PJ Hall have to be locks. I would have to go with Rush over Westbrook, but they have both played well….I have to see how Liuget looks. If he is the old Corey before he got paid big bucks all for it.

  4. I don’t know if his body will hold up, but I do know that he deserves better than Gruden and the Raiders.
