Jadeveon Clowney fires agent

Jadeveon Clowney is a free agent, at least in terms of having an agent.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Texans’ franchise-tagged pass-rusher has fired agent Bus Cook. He also apparently did it more than five days ago, which allows him to hire another agent immediately.

Clowney is apparently “unhappy with the state of talks about his future.”

It’s unclear whether that simply means with the Texans, or a move to another team.

He has yet to sign his one-year tender (worth either $15.967 million or $17.128 million depending on the grievance over whether he’s a defensive end or an outside linebacker), and Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Saturday night the “ball’s in his court.

Clowney was originally expected to return to Texans camp about now, so he’d be ready for the start of the regular season (when the big checks start coming in).

  1. LOL, this is going to turn out like LeVeon Bell’s journey this offseason. The best offer he’ll get was already given, I’ll bet. Dude is perpetually injured.

  2. Joel Segal and/or Todd France on line one. Problem is, Clowney wants to be paid like the top defensive line/pass rushing players in the league, but his play and availably aren’t always commensurate with that rate. He should still make out like a bandit though.

  3. At this point what can an agent really do? Damage control on his image maybe? The money can’t change. You either sign your tender, suit up, and play the game or sit for the year.

  4. Dude looks the part, but hasn’t delivered, injury in the pros or “takes plays off” in college it all amounts to the same. Wants Watt money but are worlds apart especially considering injury histories

  5. He needs to face reality , too many question marks right now to justify a big money long term contract. Whether it’s $15M or $17M he should have signed the tag worked his butt off to erase the doubts about his long term value . By waiting this long with his injury history thinking if he does return soon he will prove the Texans right , he’s not consistently healthy and productive enough to justify giving him a big money deal . He will be a free agent next year and even if they decide on the the lower tag of $15M it will be a lot more then he will offered on the open market .

He’s missed three games in the last three seasons. Good job on the research.

And has missed 18 regular season games in 5. Good job.

  8. All he has to do is sign a $16M tender and play lights out, then he’ll be in position to make over $100M in the next 5 years.

$16M is enough to retire on. His best play is to play. Even it it means he goes to another club to prove he’s worth top-end money.

  9. He is a good player, but not fantastic. Average fans saw him blow up the Michigan RB and thought “this guy is a monster blowing thorugh the line like its not even there.” On that play, the offensive lineman ccompletely whiffed blocking Clowney and he got to the back unopposed. It was a good play but one a lot of players can make. He’s not a geneational talent like Aaron Donald.

  10. 5 seasons 29.5 sacks and wants to be paid like Mack? can you produce at least one double digit sack season first?

  11. Came off to me like he tried just enough to get the #1 pick in college, just enough to get a huge contract this time, without actually putting in the work that it deserves.

Give me Myles Garrett or Von Miller all day
