Josh Gordon is eligible to play Week One

Receiver Josh Gordon‘s conditional reinstatement has become an official reinstatement to play in Week One of the 2019 regular season.

According to the NFL, Gordon is eligible to play when the Patriots host the Steelers on September 8 in primetime on NBC.

Before word came from the league that Gordon has a green light, a reporter asked coach Bill Belichick whether he expects Gordon to be available for the night the team raises its sixth championship banner.

“Yeah, we haven’t even started the game plan for the Steelers yet, so that’s way too early to try to formulate an answer on that question for him or I’d say a lot of other people,” Belichick said.

Regardless, Gordon will be available to be used as much, or as little, as Belichick wants to use him.

  1. Great News for a good guy. Josh finally has his act together and I’m really rooting for him.

  2. The Patriots are loaded and the haters will be losing their minds when they start 10-1 this year

  3. Does Josh really have his act together, or is the NFL getting softer on pot issues? Cough cough… you’re up next, Randy Gregory!

  4. LOL, as if you’d get an answer out of Belichick! I think he plays at least in a limited capacity.

  5. Good for Josh. Hope he stays off the whacky tobacky until he retires. A ridiculous amount of talent in one human being and it needs to be on the field for anyone who likes watching football to enjoy.

Bad for the NFL. Absolutely no explanation of why this one was so lenient compared to the multiple suspensions he’s faced before. Maybe there is some difference that explains why this one was so light but the lack of consistency is mind numbing.

  6. I don’t know if the Pats WR group will make anyone’s top 10 list, but the fact is that it looks like it could be better than last year’s group. Time will tell.

  7. Coming from having a Brother who battled addictions and overcame them Now he is an engineer married with 3 wonderful Kids.Im rooting for him sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to get to the top

  8. Hope for the best for you Josh. You couldn’t have a better support system anywhere than you have in place now. Don’t let the pressure get to you and stay focused on what the team wants you to do and you’ll be a success story.

  9. Of course he is. As the league continues it’s long established commitment to New England. Guy has been in Stage 3, TWICE. So much for rules…

  10. Thomas looks superb last night. He made it look effortless. And I understand that he was going up vs. 2’s and 3’s but I also understand that it was his first action since Christmas.

I came away VERY impressed with that I saw.

I’m glad you are conceding their loss in the opener.

I want good things for Gordon like everyone else but can we at least not act like he hasn’t already had several chances at making this work?

    _____________

    Miami…always Miami….

  14. The league has implemented a much more lenient policy on substance abuse the last couple of years. Other than simply banishing them, they’ve tried to work with them. They do this for ALL teams. I wish people would at least TRY to keep up. JGordon could be a great redemption story. Or not. I’m rooting for him.

  15. Krafts puppet Goodell working overtime. With Gronk gone the phantom calls on opposing teams and total absence of calls against NE will be even more preposterous.

  16. “Yeah, we haven’t even started the game plan for the Steelers yet…” Belichick said.

Why would he? He’s been using the same game plan against the Steelers since the 2001 AFC Championship Game because it WORKS. And the Steelers will fail to adjust to Belichick for the 18th straight year when they lose on the 8th…and I’m a Steelers fan.

  17. Better keep Chung and Gordons lockers waaaay on the opposite sides of the locker room

  18. Has it ever been revealed what substance use he violated? If they put this guy through hell over Marijuana I’d have a problem with that. Pills, coke, etc I can understand…

I can’t believe Goodell reinstated him since Goodell hates the Patriots so much

    ——————-
Just because you hate them does not mean the rest of the world does.

  20. The substances were just a sideshow, real problem is depression, mental illness. The pressure of the game is real for Josh.

  21. How did Belichick get away with not saying he was already onto Pittsburgh at that point?

There are two stories I have read. Can’t tell you which if either is correct.

    1) was that he had a slip up during some time off just before the playoffs.

    2) Was that while he was still with Cleveland and when they thought he might be on something at a team meeting (you might recall that story about the last straw that got him sent packing) a test was done and the results came back a couple months after and he got dinged.

  23. Crazy is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. How long will it last? He will let you down, I am certain of that.

  24. Soooo….when he played for the Browns it was massive, lengthy suspension after massive suspension. Now that he plays for the Pats….eligible for week one. Nothing to see here folks, move right along.

  25. Wow. He fails a substance abuse test for the 10th time and receives a two-game suspension? That doesn’t make any sense. Talk about favoritism.

  26. Pats fans are very hypocritical because we’re he on another team that threaten the Pats they would be complaining…..nothing new here.

    ——————————
Please tell us who is this mythical team that “ threatens “ the Pats!

  27. No one has done more with less than Belichick and Brady. So why do they even bother with Josh Gordon? It made sense (sort of) that a poor organization with a bad roster such as the Browns would waste their time on Gordon but with the Pats I can’t see why.

Not really. It’s last stop Foxborough for Gordon. He’s not a violent offender like Tyreek Hill or numerous other teams’ players.

At best, they like him as a person and admittedly, he’s a special case which is unusual. I think NE is not going to be very lenient with him this time around. Just my opinion. Another slip up and his career is over.

Lol. You can call Patriots fans a lot of things. But ‘threatened’ aint one of them.

Because he is so dryly factual when he gives those answers. So instead he said that he was off to view film and had some devisions to make before Saturday. And that after that is when they would then start thinking about Pittsburgh.

  31. Lol. You can call Patriots fans a lot of things. But ‘threatened’ aint one of them.

Your need to respond says otherwise.

Gordon deserves another chance but I wouldn’t tie my future to that pony.

This is the realest comment on here.

  33. Steelers’ secondary is going to get shredded. Brady will be dunking on those shrimps all game long.
