Jets claim Kaare Vedvik, three others off waivers

The Jets were interested in former Ravens kicker-punter Kaare Vedvik, before the Vikings set fire to a fifth-round pick for the privilege of cutting him.

So the Jets were happy to sweep up the ashes.

Via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Jets claimed the Norwegian specialist off waivers, along with three other players.

The Jets also claimed wide receiver Braxton Berrios, defensive end John Franklin, and defensive back Bennett Jackson off waivers.

The Jets were looking for an upgrade at kicker after Taylor Bertolet struggled in the preseason, but it’s unclear if Vedvik is an upgrade. He missed three field goals and had a punt returned for a touchdown during his brief stay in Minnesota.

At least it didn’t cost them a future asset to find out.

  1. The Jets have been taking the Vikings to school for quite awhile now.
They merely feigned interest in a couple of players, Cousins and Barr notably, driving up their contract costs considerably.

But this, this just might be their best move yet.
Fleecing the Barneys out of a 5th round pick for a two week preseason rental, only to scoop that player right back up after the cut-down dust settled.
    Oh The Hilarity!
I swear the Vikings front office must play the Benny Hill theme on a continuous loop.

  2. No no. We’ve been assured that the kicker would wind up on the Vikings practice squad by Vikings fans, who have assured everyone (relentlessly) that they’re the smartest fans in the world.

  3. i will not cheer for the vikings again until zimmer and spielman are both gone and a total rebuild commences.

to burn 4 consecutive 5th round picks in an 18 month span is ineptitude at its worst. they also cut Zylstra, who immediately got picked up by another team. he would be great if it weren’t for the coaching staff giving his snaps to treadwell, who is not claimed yet. the vikings have 4 receivers. lol.

    Go Pack Go!

  4. Ravens not stupid when comes to special teams.edc or ozzy would not sellk damaged goods. They knew they had a good kicker. Maybe vikings dont have the special team background to develop this guy??? Have afeeling they gonna look dumber than they did after giving their qb that guaranteed deal

  5. Did some clown just pretend to be a Vikings fan, and then proclaim he is not anymore…..because of a 5th round pick?! Dude, the team doesn’t need you. What a dumb post by you.

  6. Hey Waffle, you should probably stop posting for a while. Your trolling is very weak. Jets last 4 seasons; 4-12; 5-11; 5-11; 10-6. 24 wins. The Vikings have 40 wins in that same timeframe. Oh, but the Jets are showing us a thing or two about a thing or two!! Btw; your team has 33 wins in that four years, and you’re shooting for your third straight sub .500 season.

  7. Jets might suck highlander but vikings have the talent to be so much better with the proper coaches

And yet, everything I said was the truth, and the reality is that the Vikings are coming off a dismal 8-7-1 season.
They’ve also kept the status quo as far as their GM and head coach goes, overpaid everyone to the point they were unable to change their roster in any truly significant way, so expect more of the same.

Meanwhile, the Packers have made major strides away from their old selves, throughout their entire organization and roster, so what happened 4 years ago holds absolutely no bearing on what’s about to happen this season.
Will it ultimately be successful or not is anybody’s guess, but I like the early returns.

    Alright, I’m game.
If you really want to compare the last 4 seasons between the two teams, let’s.

According to you, the Vikings have 7 more regular season wins than the Packers, (I’m just going by your numbers, as I’ve never been inclined to actually do this.) but what I find interesting is you conveniently leave out postseason numbers.
Now, the Packers, as bad as they’ve been, have won 3 times as many playoff games than the Vikings in those 4 seasons.
And then they went out and fired their GM and head coach.
That should illustrate perfectly just how poorly run the Vikings organization is. skoLOL!
Hey, it’s not trolling if it’s the truth 😉

  10. waffle is talking about front office’s when his pack with Murphy, thompson/gutey the last 4years and they haven’t been close to good.
