Matt Nagy: Eddy Pineiro will kick on Thursday night

Bears head coach Matt Nagy wasn’t willing to confirm that Eddy Pineiro would be the team’s kicker on opening night when he spoke to reporters on Friday, but he did say it would be “a major concern if you go get somebody to come in here that has never kicked in here.”

The Bears didn’t claim a kicker after Saturday’s cuts and Nagy went the final mile when it came to committing to Pineiro on Sunday.

“He deserves it. He earned every right to be our kicker,” Nagy said.

Pineiro was acquired in a May trade with the Raiders for a conditional 2021 seventh-round pick. He was 8-of-9 on field goals and 3-of-4 on extra points during the preseason, but spent last season on injured reserve and has never kicked in a regular season game.

He’ll get a chance to change that against the Packers on Thursday night.

  1. And at half time there’ll be an open competition for the next kicker after Nagy’s ST line fails to stop a Packer tipping a kick and Pineiro gets fired.

  2. Matt Bryant was available for several months. He would have solved the Bears longstanding kicking problems.

How many games does this guy needs to play before bears have to send a draft pick to Oakland?

    According to ESPN –
If Pineiro isn’t on Chicago’s active roster for five games, the Raiders won’t get the pick, sources said

If I had to guess the two stories out of Chicago are Trubisky taking the next step and Pineiro being Dinero and another huge score from Oakland!

  4. Even the best kicker in the game cant make up for a slew of picks wasted on a below average qb.

The same gm that wasted the picks on turdbustky is one that thought robbie was overpaid at 5 mil a year. While spending 6-7 mil a year for worse ones. Including 9 mil for parkey. Who btw outscored turdbustky in his last game.

Mahomes, watson and turdbustky on the board and this moron passes on the first two and waste 4 picks to move up for the last one. Should have been fired on the spot.

Your logic and rationale is all t@rdddded up man.

Draft picks are a gamble, Bears are just trading gambles for a specific player. Trubisky has more enthusiasm, leadership and motivation in his pinky finger than any other QB the Bears have had in 30 plus years. The Bears defense is a top three if not the best in the league. Stop trying to cut Mitch down, we don’t expect him to be Tom Brady, but he’s good enough to get it done and sweep your team.
