Tom Brady: Brian Hoyer brought me back to center when I got down

Brian Hoyer didn’t play much quarterback during his two stints with the Patriots, but Tom Brady said Hoyer had a positive effect on the team in other ways.

During an appearance on WEEI, Brady said that it was “very difficult” to hear that Hoyer was released over the weekend because he is a close friend. He also said that Hoyer, who signed with the Colts, was able to provide a calming influence when things weren’t going as well as hoped.

“Brian provided a lot,” Brady said. “He was a great quarterback for our team and he won an offseason award. He just brought a great positive energy to the team. Always optimistic and I think there’s times for me that I get frustrated or I get down or disappointed with things that may have happened and he would always try and bring me back to center pretty quickly. I love the relationship I have with him. It will certainly continue on in its own personal way. We just won’t be working together.”

Brady isn’t going to have the same relationship with rookie Jarrett Stidham, so he’ll need to look elsewhere for centering when he gets down on himself this season.

  1. I’m sure Brady is happy Hoyer made such a score. He had made about 14 mil to that point in his career and got 9 mil guaranteed

Bill doesn’t give a damn about feelings! That bromance is over and Tommy has no choice but to deliver another trophy into Belichick’s clutches.

Bill needs Tom more than Tom needs Bill.

  3. Tough but Hoyer turns 34 next month and if Brady does do 3 or 4 more seasons or even just two, Hoyer can’t be the future – and if Stidham (the NFL’s leading passer this preseason) isn’t the long term answer he has shown enough to be a placeholder. Hoyer’s done well, congrats.

Looks like Tom will need someone new to kiss…..maybe Stiddem can take care of that

    You need a life.

Doesn’t suck to know TB is better than the QB that plays for the team you root for? Not only is he better but he’s better than any QB that has played or will play for the team you root for.
And I don’t k ow what team you root for but I k ow it’s true.

  5. ben, take note – this is how you do a radio interview. Positive things said for public consumption and player critism confined to the locker room.

How do you know it isn’t Belichick that delivers a trophy to Tom? Lets face it, when an article speaks of Brady there is a crowd that gets to work posting as hard as they can (because somewhere in their minds they seem to think it makes some difference) that he is simply a product of Belichick’s system. But then when there is an article about Belichick these are the exact same individuals that get to work saying Belichick is just an average coach that never won anything until he lucked into Tom Brady. And if anyone suggests that its really both of them those same people struggle because it’s hard to speak to that idea without accidentally complimenting one of them.
