Teammates say they accept Antonio Brown’s apology

Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown stood before his teammates and apologized for the problems he’s caused during the offseason, and his teammates seem to accept it.

Brown, who offered an apology during a team meeting on Friday, seemed sincere, teammates said.

“It was sincere,” Raiders running back Jalen Richard said on NFL Network. “It was definitely sincere. You could tell it was coming from the heart. Every word he spoke was thoughtful. And then we got up there behind him, and our captains expressed how they felt along with him. We’re very excited to have him on the field with us and get this all behind us.”

Raiders wide receiver Ryan Grant downplayed the significance of Brown’s fight with General Manager Mike Mayock.

“Whatever happened a couple days ago, it is what it is. We’re a family, families argue and they gripe, but it’s all good vibes around here,” Grant said.

Added Raiders safety Karl Joseph, “He just apologized for what he did and explained that he wanted to be here with the team, and we accepted that.”

Players want to win, and players in the Raiders’ locker room seem to accept that Brown can help them beat the Broncos on Monday night. For them, that’s enough.

  1. So did he or didn’t he use a racial slur and physically threaten Mayock?

If he did neither I can see a case for reinstatement. But, the posted video and complaint over his latest fine proves that he hasn’t learned anything from the experience.

If the Raiders didn’t rewrite the contract to remove all guarantees, I don’t have much else to say.

  2. Sincere apology : I’m really, really, really sorry. I didn’t realize that the team could still get their money back. I thought I could keep the cash . Once again, I’m really sorry until I get to keep the guaranteed portion of the money.

  3. With the way Gruden gutted the team of most any type of quality talent, the Raiders are now composed primarily of marginal “Gruden Grinders” who ingratiated themselves t the “coaching legend” in order to earn roster spots.

So in other words, these players are going to say whatever it is that Gruden wants to hear.

  4. “Players want to win, and players in the Raiders’ locker room seem to accept that Brown can help them beat the Broncos on Monday night. For them, that’s enough.”

And that’s all that matters, what the team and players think, not what the media thinks and manufacturers.

  5. Deep down did anyone really believe anything was going to happen to AB? I would had been shocked if the Raiders actually did the right thing and cut him but everyone knew that wasn’t happening.

  6. So let me get this straight last year Khalil Mack, didnt want to be a Raider, and didnt get paid…. they then trade for AB, and pay HIM who caused 100x the drama and while having an escape hatch from him in the contract and don’t use it, as he continues to be “bigger” than the team.

ALSO who was the last QB Gruden helpes develop, I know it wasnt Jake Plummer or Brad Johnson. Only 9 years left on that contract Vegas may not want team after this season

  7. This is going to be spectacular when it finally becomes too much for the Raiders. This is beyond any drama TO ever caused. I honestly can’t believe they didn’t suspend him. And I thought Marvin Lewis was too easy on his guys. AB just proved he runs this team.

  8. Sure, I buy his genuine apology.
After all AB is an honorable stand-up guy.

PS. Vontze Burfict is probably looking down on him as a bad character guy.

  9. Jon Gruden came back to the Raiders to win. The Raiders started looking pretty good toward the end of last season as players started to learn the new offense and new defense. They had the best draft in the entire league, by far. They added arguably the best WR in NFL history, and lots of other very good players. The players and coaches who are there every day see what’s happening. They can’t wait to get the season started. The last thing a Raider hater wants to see is Antonio Brown in Silver and Black. I can’t say that I blame them. It’s completely normal for humans to hate what they fear. It’s a basic survival instinct. 100% normal. Raiders’ fans should take all the hate as a compliment.

  10. such a great teammate that last year in week 17 with the playoffs and season on the line, he took his ball and went home. Quit on his team and never even showed up for the game.

  11. HaHa “you have to communicate better with him”. Have you seen his communication skills? 99% of the time you can’t figure out what he’s saying, so how do you respond? To the helmet thing and missing practice, call me misinformed but wouldn’t the best way to select a new helmet have been to put each one on an PRACTICE in it instead of crying and protesting.

  12. It’s all about winning football games and keeping those seats full and keeping people watching. When this whole thing blew up I said the AB would not be suspended and would play on Monday. And now more people are going to stay up and watch that late Monday night game just to see how AB does.

  13. Does it really matter what WE think? The only opinion that counts are the those of the 53 guys in that locker room. As long as they put a winning product on the field Raiders fans will be happy and all of this will be a distant memory.

  14. He is a mentally ill manipulator. These people will do anything to be in control and this is his way of controlling the narrative.

As per usual when Goodell wants to protect an AFC team (not named NE), he ignores league rules.

This same team witnessed him threaten violence toward Mayock which is against NFL rules.

Let’s see how long Goodell cheats here for..

  15. Fire Gruden! He just sent the message to the entire roster that authority starts and stops with him. If Mark Davis doesn’t address this, then he is a punk. Mike Mayock should walk right now, after being punked. This is all on Gruden’s shoulders now. He said i don’t care what you do as long as I am all the authority. Which means this team will lack discipline and accountability! Fire Gruden!

  16. For him to asking for his release on Instagram, it almost looks like he now wants them to beg him to stay. Some egos are never satisfied.

  17. Yup, just when you thought it couldn’t get crazier, here’s AB’s latest Instagram post:

“You are gonna piss a lot of people off when you start doing what’s best for you.

And that’s fine ! I have worked my whole life to prove that the system is blind to see talent like mines. Now that everyone sees it, they want me to conform to that same system that has failed me all those years. “I’m not mad at anyone. I’m just asking for the freedom to prove them all wrong.” Release me @raiders #NOMore #theyputblindersonahorseforareason #NoMoreFake”

  18. Well what about the tweet he just sent saying they need too release him. This is crazy man the raiders gruden and ab look like clowns the only one who has brains is Mayock and I can’t believe I’m saying that

  19. Raiders wisely hit AB with a $250,000 fine for his interaction with Mayock. Which voided AB’s guaranteed money (3rd fine = Void). AB must now play week to week to earn his Raiders money. AB asks for his release. AB gone…

  20. I doubt the majority of his teammates ( soon to be EX Teammates ) believed a word he said….3 guys go on record that are clueless and all the others have no comment.
Once he is gone watch how many of his “Teammates” have his back.
    The guy is a kook
