Bills come back from 16-0 to beat the Jets

The Bills looked well on their way to a loss in the opening game of the regular season, but their offense found its footing late in the third quarter and pulled off a major comeback.

John Brown‘s 38-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter made it 17 straight points for the Bills and a 17-16 lead over the Jets in the Meadowlands. The Jets would move the ball near midfield on their ensuing drive, but Sam Darnold missed an open Robby Anderson deep a couple of times and the Bills defense held for the win.

Rookie running back Devin Singletary played a big part in the offensive turnaround. He didn’t get a carry in the first half, but ran four times for 70 yards and also caught four passes for 28 yards. That helped set up Brown’s touchdown as well as a running score for Josh Allen earlier in the fourth quarter.

Allen was intercepted twice and lost a fumble in the first half, but he got rolling in the second half and finished the day 24-of-37 for 254 yards. The Bills offense was helped by linebacker C.J. Mosley‘s absence as the Jets veteran was forced out by a groin injury at the end of the third quarter. He’d stuffed the stat sheet before getting hurt and any extended time out would be a very bad development for the Jets defense.

Le'Veon Bell had 17 carries for 60 yards and six catches for 32 yards and a touchdown in his Jets debut. Darnold was 27-of-40 for 179 yards and was under pressure often behind a leaky offensive line. The line play definitely hindered the Jets and they’ll have to hope things improve as center Ryan Kalil, left guard Kelechi Osemele and right guard Brian Winters didn’t play together at all in the preseason.

The Bills will be back at the Meadowlands to face the Giants next weekend and they’ll be hoping to pick up where they left off on Sunday.

  1. Hope Bell enjoyed his win oh I mean bitter lose to Buffalo after all his lips wanting to be with a winning team

  2. Bills D is legit. Bills offense will continue to get on track, especially when they realize Singletary is the TRUTH!!! Great come from behind win by the Bills.

  3. lol what did these dopes think was going to happen when they hired retread gase? maybe peyton manning will fall in his lap again and make him somehow look like a qb guru.

  4. Man, how salty do you have to be as a Pats fan to come here right after a win like that to try to dampen spirits?

Oh, well. Didn’t work. I still feel great, It wasn’t pretty, but Allen showed a ton of resiliency, and the D is legit.

Good game, Jets. Bell looked great and I still think Darnold has a bright future.

  5. Bell: 17 carries for 60 yards for 3.5 ypc

Welcome to the Jets. You’re not running behind that Steelers offensive line anymore.

  6. Jets fans have got to be some of the dumbest humans on earth. They buy in all spring and summer, only to get angry at others instead of their embarrassing owner, GM and coach.

    Darold – Sanchez

    “electric” offense, huh dummy?

    Maybe stop running your mouth.

  7. joetoronto as usual you have no idea what your talking about. You just hate Buffalo but never tell us who you like. 4 turnovers by the Bills and 365 yards offense by the Bills to 222 yards for the Jets and the Jets blew it? You’re the biggest joke trolling blogs.

The offensive mastermind, QB guru Gase scores a whopping 10 pts on offense. Imagine that.
    _______________

It was actually 8, but who’s counting?

  9. Josh Allen – 251 Yrds, 2 Tds, 2 int (None of which were his fault, and cmpl. % 64. Def9initely a tuneup game, but Allen won this game because of his heart. Wouldn`t trade him for any of the other rookies. Just a great win. You can say Allen uscks all you want, but at the end of the day our QB brought this team back to win and yours did not.

Oh no watch out that’s 5 in a row from the Bills

You know, if you count pre season.

    The Bills QB still sucks

    6-10 for the season.

Leave it to a Patriots homer to troll on other articles when his jimmies get all rustled when a Patriots article is trolled. Hypocrite.

Come from behind win,on the road,in NYC with a 2nd year 22yr. old at quarterback. Strike up the band.

  13. Yep hate to see the all the hate from the trollers, just the truth does wonders. Jets have a lot of positives to take away despite the loss, their D did very well, their run blocking was solid, pass protection (lack of) hurt them, and probably the play selection. Had they stuck with the short screens and run game that was starting to work they might have pulled it out. And oy yes…the kicking game….uggh. Yes changes coming on Monday.

As far as Allen two picks were deflected, the one that was called back was actually his worst throw. I only saw a couple of underthrown balls, and he dropped one perfectly on Beasley who had his eyes on the sideline and blew the catch. Otherwise he was better than I expected. The fumbles are a concern, but in an away game, early in the season, I see that as very correctable.

The Bills D was really really good, albeit with a few missed tackles on Bell and loose coverage on Crowder. But they didn’t give up the big play.

Predicting 7 wins, but if Allen can find Brady-like confidence, they can do better. Singletary has served notice….he’s one to watch.

  14. Patriots fans will revel in how baaaaaad the Jets/Bill/Dolphins are, until someone points out how easy it has made it for the Patriots to sail to a 1st round bye every year, then they will start talking about how great their division is. You guys are too much hahaha

I never understand this logic. The Patriots still have to beat the best in their conference championship game, then the best in the NFC. Whom ever your team is they still beat your too either directly or by proxy..

    _______

My team (Dolphins) actually manages to beat the Patriots some of the time…in fact we did last season. When is the last time your team could say that?

So in your estimation the Bills will lose 9 of the next 15 games with 8 Home games left and one of the easier schedules in the league?

GOOD GRIEF Charlie Brown! Bills are winning 9 plus this year..

  18. ” Sam Darnold missed an open Robby Anderson deep a couple of times and the Bills defense held for the win.”

Darnold was just heaving it up in the general direction and area his receiver was in with no accuracy. Not very impressive.

  19. “Man, how salty do you have to be as a Pats fan to come here right after a win like that to try to dampen spirits?”

This Pats fan watched that game and I think you have a pretty good D. Offense is a work in progress.

Who knows, you might get to make similar comments about the Pats after the game tonight. Its week 1, everyone talks big and often trash talks their division rivals.

  20. Shanghai, I bet the bills, jets or dolphins have beaten your unnamed team.. Or else you would have mentioned them.

Billsrthefuture good win, Allen shined when it mattered. It’s better to almost lose than almost win.

The Jets blew this game more than the Bills won it and Josh Allen looked like total crap.
    ________________________________________________

Neither one of the Interceptions were his fault(Both tipped) and only 1 of the two fumbles were on him(Morse).
So if you take the INT’s away his stat line is:
    (24 of 37 64.8% for 254yds 1 passing TD, 10 rushes for 38yds 1 rushing TD, 1 F)
If that is horrible to you something is wrong. Besides, He got the W!!!!

  22. 2 picks, including a pick 6, a lost fumble and a safety equals a great game to the most delusional fan base in the history of sports.

  23. Gore had the safety, all Sperm did was hand off. The pick six was a bounce off a receiver. One fumble never touched the QBs hand. Who’s delusional? One guy just doesn’t know football.

  24. Guys, maybe we should go easy on the other Joe. His team just got walked all over by the guy that they gave a $30mil guarantee to.
