DeSean Jackson trails only Jerry Rice in career touchdowns 50 yards or longer

DeSean Jackson showed once again on Sunday that he’s one of the greatest big-play playmakers in football history.

Jackson had touchdown catches of 51 yards and 53 yards on Sunday, helping the Eagles come from behind and beat Washington. And in the process he joined some very elite company in NFL history.

With those two touchdowns, Jackson now has 31 touchdowns of 50 yards or longer in his NFL career. Only Jerry Rice, with 36, has more. Jackson entered Sunday in a tie with Randy Moss, who is now third in NFL history with 29 career touchdowns of 50 yards or longer.

Jackson is now in Year 6 of making former Eagles coach Chip Kelly look like an idiot for getting rid of him. The Eagles are glad to have him back.

  1. I’m pulling for him to break Rice’s record so that I can see Jerry cry about it, and trust me he’ll be moaning and complaining because he’s the ultimate wide receiver Diva

In my opinion, he is a one-trick pony. I would have assumed he broke a record for catching the ball and falling to the ground to avoid contact.

That’s a misperception. In the early part of his career he was catching seam routes and getting yards after the catch in addition to taking deep balls. Then he did become one dimensional, especially in Washington and Tampa Bay. But even if you take the bombs out of his game on Sunday, he was in there functioning as a possession receiver. He converted three 3rd downs for the Eagles on seams and quick outs to keep crucial drives going. And after the game, HoF football journalist Ray Didinger noted D-Jax’s return to being a complete receiver. If Ray Didi says it, it’s about as close to the truth as you can get.

  3. DeSean is a human home run threat. And for those that say all he does is run fast or go routes every year players with sub 4.4 speed enter the league and don’t succeed or leave the type of impact Jackson has. He’s barely 6ft tall and weights 170 seemingly soaking wet yet he impacts defenses in so many ways. We wasted his talents in Washington and they didn’t know how to use him in Tampa…..to be precise Jameis didn’t know…Fitzpatrick was lighting up defenses with Jackson for a stretch of games….Glad to see Jackson in a situation where his talents are allowed to shine again. And we’re lucky KC had already allocated so much money to the wide receiver spot or I think he would have gone there and played with his old coach and an already unfair offense would have been just down right cheat mode video game style.

  4. A couple more good years and he is in the hall of fame conversation.

    Good luck with that.
He’s only broken 1000 yards receiving 4 times during his 12 year career. Please. Rice had 14 seasons of over 1000 yards. Fourteen to four. Some might see the difference. Moss had 10 1000 yard seasons.

DeSean Jackson is just James Jett playing in the modern pass happy era. There is no comparison between Jackson and legends like Rice or Moss.

And yet, he’s still a productive receiver, as evidenced by his performance Sunday. Jackson’s been hamstrung by not being used effectively or by poor QB play since he left Philly. Jameis thinks the object is to throw the ball deep to the OTHER team, and the offense in Washington was based around shorter throws. He had a good deep ball passer in Fitzmagic last year, and look how that worked out?

  6. moss and rice aren’t the only wrs in the hall. and desean is only approaching records held by moss and rice, and i don’t think anyone has said he’s better than them. but there are other receivers in the hall that aren’t as good as rice or moss, and to compare desean to james jett is ridiculous and insulting. whether he gets in the hall or not, he isn’t comparable to james jett.

  7. and to compare desean to james jett is ridiculous and insulting.

They are VERY comparable to James Jett. DeSean has absolutely zero chance for the NFL Hall Of Fame. Eagles HOF? Sure. He’ll never enter the argument for Canton OH. He’s a good player. He’s not in the elite conversation. He’s better than Ted Ginn. But he’s not a complete WR. That’s probably on Jackson. He seems to be content with being a go route guy.

  8. i don’t know i watched the game, redskins just didn’t cover him. Not like he burned anyone we’ll see how consistent he is.
