Report: Vikings placing Josh Doctson on IR

Wide receiver Josh Doctson‘s stay on the active roster in Minnesota looks like it is coming to an end.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Vikings are placing Doctson on injured reserve. A leg injury is given as the reason for his placement on the list and, per Rapoport, there’s hope for a return to action later this season.

Doctson signed with the Vikings last week after being released by Washington at the end of August. He was inactive for last week’s win over the Falcons.

His arrival came just after the Vikings released wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, who was selected a pick after Doctson in the first round of the 2016 draft.

Treadwell remains a free agent, but it seems unlikely that the Vikings would call him back to fill Doctson’s spot in the lineup. Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Chad Beebe and Olabisi Johnson are the other receivers in Minnesota.

  1. That’s ok! There is great depth on this team after Thielen and Diggs!

Wait, what did you say? The Vikings just have Beebe and Olabisi Johnson?

    That is really sad.

  2. We have so many good WRs in Green Bay that we can loan one to the Vikings. Then it will be a fair game. Because we think we’re that superior.

  3. This is a form of cheating. He’s not ready for their system and is a project player. They’re stashing him for next year without it counting against their roster. Food for thought.

  4. Wait.. huh? When did this injury happen? Did the Vikings pick him up when he already had the injury, or did it happen in the past couple weeks?

  5. We need to replace him with a living breathing WR. Jordon Taylor knows our system as does Treadwell and half a dozen other people we cut. Not that I endorse any of these folks. Still stings that we don’t have zylstra but hey this is an opportunity for someone. Next!

  6. Yep, smart move. Gives Doctson at least 6 weeks to learn the offense and frees up another roster spot. Vikings are going to have a lot of tough decisions to make once he, Morgan, and Hill are all eligible to play come mid-season.

  7. “We have so many good WRs in Green Bay that we can loan one to the Vikings. Then it will be a fair game”. Because we think we’re that superior. Ha ha ha and they can loan you a running back that can exceed 2.1 yds PC for a whopping grand total of 47 placing them at 14th in the NFC. OH, AR save us again and throw the ball 10,000 times.

  8. It sounds ridiculous to call anyone “injury prone” that plays a violent, contact sport. But if there is such a thing; this guy is it! He was rarely available in Washington and when he was; he wasn’t 100% and disappeared in games anyhow!

Might be time for him to move onto the next phase of his life.

  9. Minnesota people are the nicest folks in the country. With that in mind I offer this piece of advice with the best of intentions: Vikings nation you don’t want Redskin castoffs. Just trust me on that.

  10. Wont need him against the traditionally horrific packer defense.

Which is, ironically, ranked higher than the Viking defense so far this year. But keep telling yourself that.

  11. Awful lot of machinations above over a 5th string WR. Apparently some cheesers equate the actual number of WRs on the active roster, not the practice squad, as limited depth — which should tell you all you need to know about the competence of said individuals.

    Very small sample size.

Matt Ryan and Julio Jones put up some garbage time stats compared to Mitch Trubisky and whomever that put up a garbage game.

All the Falcons points and most of their yards came against a prevent defense after they were losing 28 – 0 in the 4th quarter.

Not every team can have such studs as Geronimo “got benched” Adams, Jake Kumerow, and something called Allan Lazard. Get a hobby man your Vikings obsession is getting creepy.

“Said no one ever?” Besides Adams who exactly is going to catch the ball? Something called I can’t crack the 2nd wide Receiver spot Allison? Or overrated I haven’t been the same since Drew Brees Jimmy Graham? I think you maybe be drinking a bit too much Green and Gold Kool-aid. #Vikesrule
