Defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick reportedly received permission from the Dolphins this week to discuss the possibility of a trade with other teams and a handful of teams have shown interest in such a deal.

ESPN reports that five teams have expressed interest in trading for the 2018 first-round pick. The identities of those teams were not revealed, although there was an indication this week that the Cowboys have at least spoken to the Dolphins in recent days.

The Dolphins are reportedly looking for a first-round pick and “something else” in order to deal Fitzpatrick. Per the report, some teams do not believe the Dolphins will find takers at that price.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media also reports that a first-round pick is a must for the Dolphins in a trade, but has a rosier report in terms of Miami’s chances of landing that compensation. He reports that there’s been “real and serious” interest and that a deal could come to fruition this week.

For now, Fitzpatrick remains a Dolphin and he’ll be in the lineup against the Patriots on Sunday.

  1. I’m all for tanking but this is getting ridiculous if they trade Fritzpatrick too. You are supposed to build around younger players and now you are trading one of them. What was the point of giving Howard a contract extension then? This is not going to end well

  2. It likely won’t happen, but there is probably no one that the Steelers could take in the first round next year that would have the same value to them as Fitzpatrick.

How about a first round pick and a bust free agent signing, so the acquiring team can unload an albatross onto the Dolphins?

    >.“real and serious” interest

Many teams will offer a third or possibly a 2nd. The thing is – why are the Dolphins looking to unload a 1st round pick? Whats wrong with him? No way I’m paying you what you paid if you are eager to get rid of what you got. I want a discount.

They are not looking to “Unload him”. He wants out and they are saying fine but we want fair compensation.

  5. Reality this league is becoming the NBA where three teams have talent and the rest make money off TV and sponsor adds. Thank Goodness for fantasy leagues or more fans would be turning off this league. Sad when so much stuff takes away from the game itself.

  6. He wants to be traded because they don’t know how to use him. Flores is totally out of his element. That’s not to say he won’t become decent but if that happens it will get much worse before it gets better

  7. Of they believe there is a realistic chance of getting a 1st rd pick and maybe a player or extra mid rd draft pick then there is 0 reason to play him this week. The most obvious reason being is he could get hurt and then u can’t trade him and if u do even down the road u are going to get less compensation back.

The second reason being he just put his worst game by far on tape last week giving up 3 TD’s compared to the 1 he gave up all last year. Mia is gonna catch a beat down by NE this week and starting off the season w 2 consecutive bad weeks of tape is again going to lessen the compensation the Phins will receive.

  8. I love how Josh Rosen has to waste away on this team. I couldn’t stand him at UCLA and I think he’s a privileged little punk. It puts a smile on my face that he went from #10 overall pick to backup on one of the historically horrible teams of all time. Sure, he’s already made more money that I likely will in my lifetime, but inasmuch as all things are relative, I’m glad he’s at least very unhappy with his professional situation.

  9. We’ll know how serious the Seahawks are for his services after this Steeper game. If they get pasted, what’s the point of going all in for a wildcard. If they look good and win….all hands on deck for Minkah. They have to have a first rd bye and home field to do anything in the playoffs.

From what I read I think he wants out of Miami because they won’t let him play safety exclusively. Matthieu and Thornhill are set at safety so it may not be worth losing a late 1st rounder to get him. His talent is worth our 1st rounder but I think we have a stronger need at LB, CB and maybe even RB.

  11. FACT: It was confirmed on Talkin Cowboys today (Cowboys podcast that is heard from The Star on Dallas Cowboys.com. The Cowboys did inquire however are NOT in talks for his services. The Cowboys (WISELY) are not going to part with a first round pick for safety. The Cowboys have promising safety Wilson coming off injury soon and our starters are set. Fitzpatrick WILL NOT (THANK GOD) be a Dallas Cowboy. GO COWBOYS!!! However I can see the LOSER eagles or Redskins giving up a first round for him.
