Patriots place Isaiah Wynn on injured reserve

The Patriots have lost their starting left tackle for at least half the season.

Isaiah Wynn is going on injured reserve, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

All players on injured reserve have to miss at least eight weeks before they become eligible to return. Wynn suffered a foot injury on Sunday and it’s unclear exactly how much time he’ll miss.

Fortunately for the Patriots, they’ve shown an ability to get by with a revolving door at left tackle. Each of the last two offseasons they’ve allowed their starting left tackles, Nate Solder and Trent Brown, to walk in free agency, and the offense has been fine with whoever is protecting Tom Brady‘s blind side. Brady is excellent at seeing the pass rush before it arrives, and offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia has a proven track record of getting the most out of his players.

So the Patriots should be in good shape, even without Wynn for at least half the season.

  1. Not looking like a very good pick. Will miss at least 24 out of 32 games the first two years.

  2. The Jets D isn’t getting enough credit with that spread. Their pass rush is fierce. With Wynn out, Brady is not going to be very comfortable back there on Sunday.

pretty tough to forecast injuries, he may play 7 straight years after this with no problems (or not)- all picks are a roll of the dice, he clearly is a very good player, but it would be nice if he could stay on the field

    talk about lack of context!
the mentioned previous replacemments of left tackle were planned for in the offseason, their pro bowl team captain center is also unexpectedly gone for the year, the starting R guard is out indefinitely, the right tackle is playing banged up. And what’s good shape?? only losing a head-to-head and 1 seed to the chiefs? belichick and scar are the best ever, but these are anything but trivial player losses.

    ——–

Dink and dunk passing game neutralizes fierce pass rush. You need a great secondary that forces Brady to hold on to the ball a little longer for pass rush to affect him. The Jets are not that defense.

  7. Right now this kid is in bust territory. That’s two injuries keeping him out of action and he’s not even got any mileage on him. Still has a chance to turn his career around, but not looking like a good pick.

Hopefully your not betting Mom’s house against the spread. NE’s D might cover it all by themselves

  9. Btw, this goes to show what total BS some teams’ fans (looking at you Eli supporters) come out with to defend their own QBs’ lack of performance over extended periods. Brady’s been playing with a line held together by string & quite often had a patchwork o-line in his career.

  10. Yes, the Bills almost had the past and are always claiming the future whereas the Pats merely own the present – but most Pat fans are hard-bitten realists and are fully ok with that.

  11. When you see a long tone Bills fan who normally trolls Pats’ threads talking up the Jets D a week before they play the Patriots its time to put on the waders.

Heck, the Bills hate the Jets almost as much as the Pats do.

  12. Question for other fans, will the changes to the Pats line impact the running or passing game more?

I say it will have a bigger impact in the running game because Brady and McDaniel can control the passing game and exploit the blitz. I trust Dante can coach up virtually anyone to stand up to the rush of down linemen.

  13. Ouch….. Dante can only do so much and he can’t actually go out there and play. Tom absorbed a tough hit against Miami and all it takes is a missed block…. Mason and Thuney are of course solid inside. Karras is marginal in place of Andrews. Belichick was actually concerned enough to trade for Bodine, only to find out that he wasn’t an improvement over Karras. Cannon is solid when healthy but seems to get banged up every year and has a bum shoulder at the moment. Fortunately they have an easy schedule for the next few weeks. Hopefully they can figure it out. If Wynn has turf toe, it could still be season ending, not just 8 weeks. Well see.

  14. This isn’t as easy as everyone seems to think its going to be. Last week the Pats played with an OT who was a cast off and been with the team 16 days, and ANOTHER flawed OT who had all of 3 practices. To say this isn’t ideal is a huge understatement. OK when you get 2 picks 6’s and 7 sacks against Miami. The next 2 games will be played against 2 very good DL’s, even though both are very winnable games. I don’t want Tom Brady to wind up on Greg Williams bounty wall.

This is NOT good news. I was hoping he’d be back by the start of the Pat’s difficult 6 game stretch after week 8. Now it seems the earliest he can come back is week 10. While it might seem like a first world problem for the Pats….its a problem. They started out with what looked like a great OL and now only 2 guys are left standing of the 5 starters..

  15. Well that stinks, but they are being smart about it…. by putting him on IR they save having to cut somebody to make room for new signing, & that allows Wynn to rest & fully rehab/heal with no pressure to come back too early….. Pats will have him for Playoff push rested & healthy when they bring him back off IR……
Just hope Scarr can work his magic with these new guys…..
Next guy up is getting a little ridiculous on the O-Line though!!!!
    Go Pats!!!! Thank

  16. Time to pry Trent Williams away from the Redskins. Do what it takes to save the season. These bums brought in the past few weeks aren’t good enough to protect Brady’s blind side.

  17. I don’t troll. If you don’t respect the Jets D, you’re not really paying attention.

Yes, that team is struggling as a whole. The Pats should beat them. But that D is legit.

  18. LOLLL

Yet another of the long list of horrible BB draft busts.

    Injury prone LT BUST!

Next hopefully trade 1st for Trent Williams who hasn’t played all summer is just destined for injury as he also injury on the decline.

Wynn, Michel, Dawson. Bentley, Sam, Berrios, Etling, Crossen

All either gone or injury prone LOLL Another FANTASTIC 2018 Draft class by BB

    GENIUS!!!

  19. Karras is holding up pretty good. He is the 8th ranked center in the NFL. Cannon has been practicing so he is close to returning and Wynn can return later in the season. The sky is not falling and as we saw last year with the defense, the line will be better as the year progresses. BB will not make a panic move by trying to get Williams (asking price to high/contract also) and they will coach up what they have. That may change as the season progresses or it may not.

…until they manufacture a DLineman that can get home in under 2 seconds, unmolested, The Greatest NFL Player In History will be a’ight

  21. The good part for Pats fans is that this is happening early in the season, so there is time for coaching and development, and/or perhaps another OL will become available as the season progresses. They need to be ready for games 8 through 12. I would not play Cannon against the Jets if I were NE. Keep the powder dry.

  22. Scarr sure has his work cut out for him…..if these new additions have any hidden talent I’m sure he will pull it out of them as the season goes on!!!
