Quarterback Chad Kelly‘s two-game suspension has come to an end, but he won’t be joining the Colts for this week’s game against the Falcons.

The Colts announced that they have waived Kelly on Wednesday.

Kelly, who was the final pick of the 2017 draft, signed with the Colts in May in an attempt to resume his career after being released by the Broncos in October 2018. He was released following an arrest for criminal trespassing and was sentenced to supervised probation and community service after a guilty plea in March.

Kelly appeared in one game for Denver before being cut and went 54-of-73 for 583 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Colts in the preseason.

Jacoby Brissett and Brian Hoyer remain the quarterbacks on the active roster in Indianapolis.

  1. As 5against1 notes, this is just a move to transition him to the practice squad. Nobody else is going to pick him up for their active roster.

  2. I don’t understand unless he has been doing bad things off the field again he has much more upside than Brian Hoyer, and probably the starter Brissett.

  3. chad kelly is starter material. however, I think coaches want to make sure he isn’t going the Manziel route. he did good in the preseason and I’ve been a big fan. I hope we get to keep him on the practice squad.

  4. Idiots he’s better than Brisset maybe NY next better than Jones the Broncos were stupid to release him. It’s not like he did an AB

  5. The Jets should sign him so after their QB is hurt they will have a warm body to put behind their horrendous Oline.

  6. Some of you guys putting to much stock into the guy. Great QB – heck yes. Good person – Not so much.

Chad Kelly is/was an affluenza kid who grew up (in western NY) with praise and expectation of being like his uncle, Jim Kelly. He’s been put on a thrown and spoiled and his shenanigans forgiven because he was treated as “the chosen one” to re-live Uncle Jim’s heroic QB ability. He’s Johnny Football 2.0 and has been in and out of trouble since H.S. and often received nothing more than a hand spanking for being a bad person.

He was kicked off the High School team for “unexplained” disciplinary issues. A four-star recruit with a scholarship to Clemson. Kelly was dismissed from Clemson’s football team due to conduct detrimental to the team. He was bumped down to a junior college in Mississippi where he behaved.

He was offered a chance at Ole Miss where he shined (Beat Alabama and OK St). Not before Kelly being arrested following an altercation outside of a Buffalo, New York, nightclub in which he fought with bouncers and resisted arrest. Criminal charges were dropped in exchange for his plea of guilty to disorderly conduct.

Drafted by the Broncos, who released Kelly following his arrest on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespassing. He plead guilty.

Signed by the Colts, he was suspended the first two games of the 2019 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. After being reinstated from suspension, Kelly was waived.

    Talent – Yes

Trustworthy to hand over the keys to the franchise – No way. He’s had far more chances than Johnny Football and blown them all.

  7. If he didn’t have a famous uncle, nobody would care as much about him. He might have a multimillion dollar arm, but he has a 10-cent head.
