Josh Allen on facing Patriots: We need to stick to what we do

The Bills let a 14-point lead slip away on Sunday afternoon, but they were able to regain their footing in time to outlast the Bengals and improve to 3-0 on the season.

The win sets up a Week Three date with another undefeated team in the Patriots. That should be a pretty good test of where the Bills are at this point in the season, although quarterback Josh Allen said the team isn’t going to make too much of facing Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots this week.

“The Patriots are very well coached and they got a guy over there that plays quarterback quite well, you know No. 12. [Maybe] the greatest quarterback of all time,” Allen said, via Syracuse.com. “We understand it’s a tall task but at the same time we’re going to try and stick to what we do. Learn from this game, make adjustments, and go out and try to put our best foot forward next week.”

The Bills last beat the Patriots in 2016 and last beat them in Buffalo in 2011. Ending those losing streaks would make things a bit more interesting in the AFC East.

  1. Hey Josh Allen,

I’m NOT a Pats fan, never will be.

But, coach Belichick does not just stick to what we do as you say.

Belichick treats each game separately, his game plans change wildly from game to game depending on the opponent.

Belichick does not just say “well, we’re going to stick to what we do”.

You look at film, you scout your opponent, you figure out their strengths and weaknesses and you game plan around that, you don’t just say we’re going to stick to what we do.

  2. Well the Patriots are who we thought they were, and the Bills are not who we thought they were, but the score should be what we thought it should be – Patriots by 15

  3. Hope letting up in 2nd half & self inflicted turnovers are not part of What the they do best, it almost cost them today’s game. They certainly will need to better to have any chance next Sunday.

  4. The Pats defense has given up 3 points this season. If Buffalo’s ” what we do” is score on D and special teams maybe they have a chance.

  5. “They got a guy over there that plays quarterback quite well, you know No. 12. [Maybe] the greatest quarterback of all time,” Allen said

Maybe? Big mistake. That’s bulletin-board material for Brady.

Reread the quote. Josh says that about his own team.

Not the same old Bills. Not going to be an easy game for NE on Sunday.

Last year’s game with Derek Anderson starting was an ugly affair. I believe the result will be the same, but this will be a good indication of where the Buffalo Bills are.

  9. I hope the Bills do well. It’s better for the league when the Pats have competition in their division. For whatever reason the AFC East rarely has more than 1 good team each year. Once in a while one of the teams is okay, but mostly – the Jets, Fins and Bills have sucked in the 21st century.

Combined W-L record for the teams the Pats and Bills have played so far this year is 1-17

Simple math tells you that teams for the most part 2 teams that are 3-0 haven’t played teams with great records. Combined W-L for Patriots and 49ers opponents it 1-17. “You play to win the game”

Only those 3 teams have to play the Patriots twice every year during the regular season. As a Bill’s fan I would rather play any other team twice than I would the Patriots. FACT On that note, I don’t see any way the Bills win from what I have seen this year.

  12. Patrick Mahomes had trouble with the Pats’ defense last year, how do you think Allen is going to do? The Rams scored 3 points against this defense in the SB, so how will the Bills do? NE hasn’t allowed a defensive touchdown since they played KC in the playoffs last year. I don’t believe there’s another defense in the NFL that’s as good as the Patriots’ D. We shall see.
