Patriots allow their first touchdown of the 2019 season

The Patriots allowed three points in the Super Bowl, three points on opening night and they shut out the Dolphins in Week Two, but their streak of not allowing a touchdown has come to an end.

Gunner Olszewski muffed a punt late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jets and cornerback Arthur Maulet recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. That cut the Patriots’ lead to 30-7 in their bid for a 3-0 start to the year.

Olszewski made the team after moving from cornerback at Bemidji State to wide receiver after signing as an undrafted free agent. He’s handled all the punt return work for the team so far this season and fielded six of them during Sunday’s game before his miscue.

The last time the Patriots defense allowed a touchdown was in the AFC title game victory over the Chiefs in January. That streak remains alive and the Jets haven’t shown much ability to end it.

  1. so the defense still hasn’t given up a td and special teams has given up one. obviously this great team has been blessed with great karma for setting the example of how to deal with a misogynist. belichick is a great man indeeed.

Like they know the offenses plays every down must be coincidence I guess

They have a good understanding of the game so they see things you might not.

    Gunner just lost that job

Why would the gunner lose his job? The gunner there was a Jet’s player, not the guy receiving the punt.

    Mathew Slater is a gunner.

While you are correct about what a gunner is, he means that the guy that he is referring to is in fact named Gunner.

I agree they see more than me and the rest of the league that’s what I said thanks for agreeing with me next time just hit like

  5. The defense didn’t concede any points. Special teams and the offense need work. If it weren’t for their sloppy play, we’d be talking about how well the Patriot defense has played. Which is beyond outstanding! Belichick needs to bring the hammer in the replay room. Think about it, without a muffed punt for a TD and pick six, the Patriots could have won this game 3-0. But Noooooooooo……Go Patriots!

Thats certainly still cool but I cant help but to feel like the streak actually is over since its a team thing. I’m very sure the team is over it. Belichick is watching a replay of todays Bills game as I type this.

@One of my turns, LOL, I missed that, but I see that now. Thank you for the clarification, and I down-voted myself even. 🙂

I saw that as two rookies both very early in their development have bad moments that both managed to turn as costly as possible. It wont be necessary for to drop any hammers because these guys do get it. What will happen is the coaching staff will review the plays and then work with them to focus on whats needed. Actually this is what goes on inside the facility even coming of plays when guys crushed it, the staff still goes through the film looking for things.

  9. The heinous blunders by the two rookies will not sit well with BB, nor should they. Rule one is don’t be stupid and do the simple things. Dropping an easy catch punt and throwing a horrible pick-six in your first few opportunities after BB has shown some faith in you is a recipe for disaster, especially when you could have easily not even made the team. These two are in a deep deep deep doo-doo doghouse. I wouldn’t be shocked if both were gone before the season is over. Bill didn’t become the best coach in the game by being a kindly father figure. If these two have another chance, it’s probably the last one unless they put together a long string of non-bonehead work.
