Lions’ defense hurting with Chiefs coming to town

If there’s one team you don’t want to face with a banged-up defense, it’s the Chiefs. But the Lions have the Chiefs coming to town on Sunday, and their defense may be less than 100 percent healthy.

Two of the Lions’ most important defensive players, cornerback Darius Slay and defensive tackle Mike Daniels, were injured in Sunday’s win at Philadelphia. It’s unclear whether they can play on Sunday against Kansas City.

We’ll see,” Slay said when asked if he thinks his injured hamstring will be healthy enough for him to play against the Chiefs.

Daniels suffered a serious foot injury last year with the Packers, and his foot was in a protective boot after Sunday’s game. There’s no word on whether he’ll be ready to go.

The Chiefs are favored by a touchdown in Detroit. The Lions have a big challenge ahead of them, and it will only get harder if some of their best players can’t go.

  1. Slay is the one for concern. Daniels hasn’t been doing much other than spelling rest in rotation.Slay also says “He’s good!” What that actually means on how bad the injury is, not sure.

  2. Ehh doesn’t really matter. They’re undefeated through three games and are guaranteed to have a winning record going into their bye week. Exactly zero people thought that would happen, including me!

  3. Going to be a lot of zone. The good news is, KC’s D sucks, so they should be able to keep it close even if Slay is out.

Patricia will have some things dialed up.

  4. Will it really matter? Pat beat the Ravens with a #3 WR (11) a # 4 RB (31) and a rookie #4 WR (17) with two staring OL injured. Only Belichek has a chance and the Chiefs will be healthy by then…

Would be suicide. Patricia isn’t going to come from BB’s side for 15 years and think importing a cancer, while wasting picks and then paying a diva 15 mil per, is good business.

That would sabotage what Detroit is trying to do right now.

  6. It’s not the defense that’s making a difference it’s the offense. Even with the low scoring games we’re finally seeing how a professionally designed game plan looks. They’re passing out of run formations and using the run game (as meager as it is) to set up the pass.

The biggest takeaway for me thus far is Darrell Bevel might just have a clue. I have no idea if they’ll win on Sunday but I think the OC gives them a chance.

    Stay tuned…

Lamar Jackson couldn’t “keep it close” until garbage time. Is Stafford better than Jackson?

  8. Everyone is going to underestimate the Lions in this game, but they are more than capable of beating the Chiefs. They defeated the Patriots at home in 2018 and won over the Chargers a few weeks ago. KC’s defense is also awful. If the Lions don’t expose them Sunday, the Patriots will once again in the future.

  9. The Chiefs just beat the Ravens and it wasn’t even as close as the score indicated.

KC is just dominant. They scored in seconds, on an 84 yard catch to one of the fastest WR’s in the league who is a ROOKIE. No Ty Hill, no problem. They were missing half their O-line, their best wide-out, and their RB1 and they still beat the third best team in the conference.

Sorry, but the Lions are going to get beaten easily. The Chiefs defense is also MUCH improved through three games over last year, they turned over 10 of 11 starting jobs, signed talented safeties, and new corners. Mahomes is breaking every single passing record the NFL has for new QB’s and it’s not even close. On track for 6,000 yards, and 68 touchdowns at this point. Detroit fans need to slow it down a tad. You’re gonna lose.

Mahomes also started his career in the softest era of professional football. An era where Ryan Tannehill had a perfect game, Nick Foles threw 7 touchdown passes against the Raiders, Matt Schaub passed for 527 yards in a single game, Matthew Stafford passed for 520 yards in a single game, and where Lamar Jackson threw 5 touchdown passes and had a 153.8 perfect passer-rating performance. The records don’t mean anything anymore, championships do. At least Peyton, Favre, Brady, and Brees accumulated some of their stats when football was still football.

Ha if you QB’s accomplished something 15 years ago ….
    What’s Marino’s 1984 season?
    5,084 yds 48 TD’s ……long before anyone mentioned….

    ________________________________________________________________

Did you not understand the point of what was mentioned? The league is softer than ever before throughout the course of NFL history. Yet, there are fans actually bragging about what records Mahomes has broken. Records will always be broken these days. Some of the worst quarterbacks on the field can break records in today’s game. Quarterbacks were allowed to get sacked below their knees prior to Carson Palmer’s injury in 2006. Yes, and Marino was the same guy who was outplayed by Joe Montana in Super Bowl XIX.

  12. Rest both of them, and then the bye week, and then get ready for Green Bay three weks from tonight

  13. Does Mahomes play in a different era than Stafford? Or does Stafford just suck? Don’t criticize a QB’s accomplishments and success based on the rules. That excuse is as unsupported as “now defenses have tape on him”. Get over it, he’s good. It’s not his fault the nfl changes the rules, but keep in mind he’s still doing what 34 other QB’s aren’t doing.

  14. good lions bad lions I don’t think it’s going to matter. the lions have a way of making backup qb’s look like all pros.
I’m a lions fan but I think Mahommes is going to torch them … it’s going to be a blood bath.

  15. Did you really just imply the Lions can’t keep it close because Lamar Jackson couldn’t? To answer your question yes Stafford is better than Jackson. He had a decade of good play and put up a season like Mahomes last year in his first healthy season as a starter. Jackson has 3 good games and you think this dude is the best. RG3 did the same thing and countless others. He couldn’t even throw a forward pass last year so defenses planned for that. Now that he’s shown he can throw defenses will adjust accordingly. Don’t even get me started on the Miami Dolphins defense either. Good god..

  16. The Lions fantasy is over, they have divisional opponents coming up and the Chiefs. They might have one win against the Raiders or Giants in the next six games.

Anyone believing in the Lions after AZ, SD and a Philly team with out Alshon and Jackson is most likely a desperate Lions fan posing as another fan.

    LoLions!!!!

I don’t think there’s any Lions fan that truly believes they are going to win. Nice rant, but who was the audience?

Clearly pretenders getting by on injured rosters. No chance they win this weekend, but they have a chip and a chair in the division at least. At least at times they are enjoyable to watch. Better than usual.

They haven’t put together more than a good half in any of the three games. Somehow that is still an improvement.

  19. Everyone believes their own opinion, the fact is the Lions still suck and won’t have any place in the division except their typical location (for the past six decades) of last place come the end of the season.
