Jon Gruden’s bye week plans center on getting Zay Jones up to speed

The Raiders traded for wide receiver Zay Jones on Monday, which means they’ll need to get to work on teaching the former Bill their offensive playbook.

They have some time to do that before it is time to play another game. The Raiders have a bye week and head coach Jon Gruden said on Tuesday that he plans to use it as an opportunity to get the wideout up to speed.

“I’m going to teach Zay Jones some plays today and I’m going to come in tomorrow and teach Zay Jones some more plays,” Gruden said, via the East Bay Times.

Jones led the Bills with 56 catches for 652 yards and seven touchdowns last season, but had just seven catches for 69 yards over the first five weeks of the season. The Raiders will be hoping that a couple of weeks of studying will be enough to bump his productivity back up in Oakland.

  1. Hope you enjoy having a guy who WONT fight for balls. Zay is a nice guy, but if I was a Raiders fan I’d keep my expectations realistic. He’s no Amari Cooper…

Hey dude Amari led the league in drops for two years while he played for the Raiders

Trust me he’s not worth the 20 milly a year his agent thinks he’s worth which is the same agent Mack currently has .

    Raider$ are building a contender !!

    RAIDER NATION !

  3. funny how bills fans says this guy is garbage. If true , and he led your team last year, it must then mean you don’t have garbage cans, you must have a giant dumpster. Also when you only throw the guy the ball only three times a game for the first 3 games, what can one really expect. New hands- hmmmm….the all time division one leader in receptions…has no hands…lol…Also 4.4 speed must be slow to Bills fans. smh!

  4. I didn’t think he was garbage as others said, but it seemed like he missed on a lot of opportunities. Bills fans had high expectations with him being a 2nd rounder and that we drafted him over Kupp and Juju. He just didn’t live up to it, but I wish him the best hope he can turn it around.

Dude…you never even heard of Zay Jones until Monday, and now here you are defending him like he’s a HOF’er. Why don’t you at least wait until he plays a few games in a Raider uniform before you die on a hill for him.

  6. nobody is calling Zay a savior, but the Bills have had and (still have) below average Qbs. With Carr and raiders offense Zay will for sure be better than he has been. To get a possible quality receiver for a 5TH rd pick two years from now? Hell ya I will take that.
