Josh Rosen has the Dolphins job for the rest of 2019

Good news, Josh Rosen: You’re the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins for the rest of the 2019 season.

Bad news, Josh Rosen: See the good news.

Via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Wednesday that the quarterback situation is “settled,” and that Rosen has the job.

Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick won the starting job to open the season. After two losses, Rosen took over. Two losses later, Miami emerges from the bye with a more-winnable-than-most game against Washington.

Rosen has completed 43 of 84 passes (51.2 percent) for 482 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions this year. The 2018 top-10 pick arrived via trade with the Cardinals after Arizona made Kyler Murray the first selection in the 2019 draft.

Some think Rosen will be supplanted again in 2020, by the first pick in the draft. If Miami is in the midst of a two-season tank, with an eye toward Trevor Lawrence not Tua Tagovailoa, Rosen may get a second season as the starter for the Dolphins.

  1. Crazy thing down the line Rosen maybe the best quaterback from the 2017 draft or compete for that title. Rosen throws beautiful deep balls combined with solid vision and accuracy.

  2. Josh Rosen is a bust. Miami will most definitely be drafting a QB, likely Tua but given who their OC is I could see them opting for a guy like Joe Burrow if he keeps improving. This QB class is going to be loaded w/ Tua, Burrow, Herbert, Fromm and Love all declaring and all are 1st round talents, most likely all top 15-20 1st round picks. Josh Rosen will be a career back-up in the league, I could see Miami keeping him around as a back-up to whomever they select given how little he costs and what Miami gave up to get him giving up a 2nd & 5th round pick.

    ==============================

    #1 Josh Rosen came out in the 2018 draft and he has not been accurate in the NFL really at all. He does throw a pretty ball, but it’s the easy and intermediate throws he really struggles with. Rosen is completing 51.5% of his passes this year and over the course of his young career is completing 54.5% completion percentage for 2760YDs w/ 12TDs to 17INTs & 65 QB Passer Rating, horrible stats. Rosen really struggles reading defenses making baffling throws every game still showing really no growth in that department despite being in his 2nd season and is constantly late on his throws which tells us he’s struggling processing what he’s seeing on the field quickly in his mind which is very surprising given how “smart” he was supposed to be. He’s just not going to be a franchise QB, that might offend Dolphins fans but all will be forgiven when ya’all draft Tua next year. This time next year you will have forgotten all about Rosen, though I do think he will be Miami’s QB2 next year.

  4. They’re showcasing him for a trade. If he’s good, they could probably get back a better pick than they traded for him, but he isn’t going to be good enough to pass up a quarterback at the #1 pick.

  5. You feel bad for the kid… but he had the opportunity to shine with AZ and didn’t live up to expectations. Now he is on a team that can’t support him at all so shining will be really hard to do. He may in fact be one of those NOT FOR LONG players.

  6. Way to go Josh. Now you can start making all those teams “pay” for passing you up in the draft, ha ha ha…

  7. Callahan is the savior of the Redskins by winning only one game this season. This one! Sorry, Rosen!
