Daniel Jones remembers Tom Brady spoiling Super Bowl party

Even if the Patriots beat the Giants tonight, it won’t be the first time Tom Brady has ruined things for Daniel Jones.

The first time was when Jones was 6.

The Giants rookie quarterback recalled being disappointed when Brady led the Patriots to a Super Bowl XXXVIII win over his hometown Panthers in February 2004.

“I remember where I watched it. Went to a friend’s house. The Dickens’ house. A family friend,” Jones said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com “Obviously it was heartbreaking when [kicker Adam] Vinatieri made that field goal.”

Asked if he’s hated Brady ever since, Jones gave a very Jones-like response: “Not really. Don’t think I knew that much at that age. Knew I liked the Panthers.”

That was Brady’s second Super Bowl title, and he’s since then stacked four more on top of it. Jones, since then, has left elementary and middle school, graduated from high school, played at Duke and won the Giants’ starting job.

“Grew up watching him. Obviously he’s won a lot, achieved a lot in his career,” Jones said. “So a lot of respect for that.”

Jones was 4 when Brady won his first Super Bowl, and is arguably playing better now at the age of 42 as he was then.

  1. Alot of people remember where and when the Patriots destroyed their hopes and dreams. Good to see that he has recovered, be it ever so slightly. Most of the haters are still whining and crying.

  2. Thanks for making me feel old, Dan. I remember that same game. CT. liquor stores were closed on Sundays so I drove to NY for a 30 pack and back and made it to my buddies to watch the game just in time. Good times.

I think the Panthers should trade Cam Newton to the Giants for Daniel Jones.

    ———————————

You think the Giants can’t see that giant fork sticking out of Cam’s back?

  4. it won’t be long before there are players in the NFL that weren’t even alive when Brady won his first Super bowl.

I don’t think that’s arguable. He’s playing definitely better now than in his first Super Bowl season.

  6. It’s crazy to think that the kicker he mentioned, Vinatieri, was already playing for the Patriots before Jones was even born.

Funny the Eagles did fake walk throughs super bowl week. It’s also funny they scored more points than any other team vs the Patriots in the super bowl.

  8. I am sure there is some embedded jealousies by some of these entitled Millennials coming in.

    Sad, but true.

Zero respect for things that came before their time. I see it everyday. “What’s that?” “Who was that?”

Of course you’re forgetting about the two fake touchdowns the refs awarded the Eagles in that game — but whatever, you’re a Dolphins fan.

  11. Funny how in 2015 the eagles said the cowboys were calling out their plays. Paranoia is real.
Funnier still is when the saints beat the cowboys this year they said they “stole” the hand signals from Kellen Moore because they studied his tapes when he was QB at Boise state, and they were basically the same.
See above about whining and crying. You will never heal until you come to grips with your whining and crying.

    Brady looks/plays “old” this year….

    TB after 5 games

    64% 1409 10 tds 2ints .. so he’s on pace for roughly 4500 yards 35 tds and 6 picks

I hope he keeps “looking” and “plays old”

    ==================================================================================================================

Pretty sobering statement that is. But really, he won his first one close to 20 years ago. Think of where we all were in our lives 20 years ago. How much younger we were. Those we’ve lost in our lives since then. What has taken place in our own lives. When you put it into perspective his career has spanned a good portion of our lives for those of us that are older, and most of a life for those that are younger. Twenty years is a long time. Like a generation. Hard to believe someone can do that in the NFL or in any sport for that matter.

  15. I know someone that knew someone that was the cousin of the hot dog vendor and he said he heard from a customer that they know someone that knew the brother of the bus driver that drove the eagles to the game and he said you’re an idiot.

Patriot fans need to understand just because they say something it doesn’t make it true just like the statement above with the Seahawks. But let’s just say it’s true, I wonder why all these coaches feel they have to do this vs Belichick and but not vs other coaches. Maybe because he’s been caught cheating multiple times?

  18. Unfortunately for Jones he has to go against a ferocious Patriots defense not grandpa Brady. I smell a shut out brewing tonight.

Then why did Tony Dungy say when he was the coach of the Colts
“We take the same precautions when we are set to play every team, not just the Patriots “

  20. The reporter wants Jones to hate Brady over a game, a game that happened when Jones was 6 years old.

    What a tool.

You seem to do a lot of entitlement bellyaching. Respect is earned. If you gave it away as a young person that’s on you, not the generation that is slowly and inevitably replacing you.

  22. “SMH.. some of these guys are young as heck!”

Lol most NFL players qualify as “young as heck” to some of us, its the longevity of Brady that makes it seem worse compared to the rookies.

  23. Brady also through a potential late game losing pick that the DB dropped in that SB. Luckiest team ever…

Now Jones can spoil the Patriots going 16-0……..

    ————

No Patriots fan that I know wants anything to do with 16-0.

Right now its possible the second best team in the AFC is in the Patriots division. This game is important because the Bills beat the Giants. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Winning the division is the most important goal.

Wow the Patriots fanboys club is out in full force today. They sure are defensive when it’s about the Patriots.

    ***********
Patriots fans, like other true fans of other teams, support their team through thick and thin. When haters come out with ridiculous comments, fans will respond. It’s not about being defensive, it’s about supporting.

In this forum, and in life, you can’t expect to take cheap shots and get away with it. You respond in force. That is why when there is a story on the Patriots there are infinitely more responses than for almost any other team’s articles. You and other haters such as Wib22 and VAphinfan, post more comments in the Patriots forum than any other team folders. What’s sad is many haters don’t post anything positive about their own teams. It’s actually kind of pathetic. Embrace the hate!

At the end of the day, “you hate us, ‘cause you ain’t us!”

That didn’t take long and you exhibited the typical Patriots homer behavior. So predictable.

  30. “Patriots fans, like other true fans of other teams, support their team through thick and thin.”

LMAO, the same Patriots fans who didn’t attend games before Brady arrived to the point that the team almost moved the St. Louis? LOL Patriots fans are never loyal, ask Mark Wahlberg about leaving during half time at SB 51.

  31. That’s why Patriots away games feel like home games. That’s why all the Playoff games that the colts had home field advantage, and lost, still resonate with colts fans. Wishing you had six championships isn’t the same as actually having them. Pump in some noise. Besides, when you see an ant in your house don’t you step on it. Defensive against what exactly? What do the Colts have that’s a threat to the Patriots besides ex-patriots that were responsible for all the points the colts scored last week.If the colts fans would have supported them they never would have moved from Baltimore. If it weren’t for the Patriots most of you haters favorite teams wouldn’t even be mentioned. Now enjoy the crumbs that fall off our table.. ants. You will be put out of your misery soon enough.

  32. Patriot hold another record, 17-game television blackout streak. Loyal? I think not.

    ===

Hey-you did your research! Very good!

Your fans would have appreciated it if you announced what years those were. They would had to go back a long way to find it.

But it’s easy to cherry pick stats and announce them with no perspective.

Especially when you are grasping at straws.

  33. 2011 colts went 2-14..2012 the NFL made a rule saying games wouldn’t be blacked out if stadium’s weren’t sold out and only 85% of tickets needed to be sold. Another whiny rule for the colts. You haters need to thank Patriots fans that fill your sorry teams stadiums. Now go watch lifetime.

  34. Looks like I hit a raw nerve on somebody! Somebody’s a little sensitive!

Love if when other “fans” call out loyalty like, “where were you before they started winning?” Fact is, there is a whole new generation of fans that came on board over the PAST TWO decades. Tough to call some that is in their teens to late twenty “bandwagon fans” when this dynasty is what they know! As for me? I grew up with Plunkett and Grogan begins center. I was a season ticket holder probably long before many haters like you were even born. My kids, now teenagers, are diehard, “bandwagon” Pats fans.

Yeah, it might be, if he’d actually done the research. Back in October 1990, the Sun Sentinel reported that the Dolphins were riding a 20-game blackout streak at Joe Robbie Stadium when the Raiders came to town.

Somewhat accurate, however you have to go back to 93/94 to when Kraft bought the team, hired Parcells and drafted Drew Bledsoe. 6-7 years before Brady arrived.
