Patriots defense continues to shine in 35-14 win over Giants

Getty Images

The New England Patriots defense allowed their first touchdown pass of the season, but made up for it with two non-offensive scores of their own to help carry the team to a 35-14 win over the New York Giants.

A blocked punt was returned for a touchdown by rookie Chase Winovich and a Jon Hilliman fumble was scooped up for a 22-yard touchdown by Kyle Van Noy as the Patriots defense continues to stifle its opponents. The Giants were held to just 213 yards of total offense and turned the ball over four times., which doesn’t officially include the blocked punt.

Daniel Jones was intercepted three times and Hilliman’s fumble accounted for the four Giants turnovers. Jones completed 15 of 31 passes for 161 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions.

Tom Brady added two touchdowns and Brandon Bolden added a third – all on 1-yard runs –  to carry the offensive scoring for the night by New England. The Giants only offensive score would come on a 64-yard pass from Jones to Golden Tate in the second quarter. Markus Golden would return a fumble by Brady for a 42-yard touchdown after a strip-sack by Lorenzo Carter.

The Patriots twice were unable to convert on fourth downs inside Giants territory. Brady was intercepted once and loss a fumble, and Mike Nugent‘s missed 40-yard field goal off the left upright added to a less-than-perfect night for the New England offense. However, the Patriots defense did more than enough to make up for the difference.

Brady completed 31 of 41 passes for 334 yards with an interception. Julian Edelman caught nine passes for 113 yards.

Bolden managed to shove linebacker Nate Stupar into the path of Riley Dixon‘s punt late in the first quarter that deflected high into the air and fell into Winovich’s arms. A short 6-yard return gave the Patriots the first score of the night and a 7-0 lead.

After Jones’ second interception of the night, the Patriots quickly answered as Bolden’s 1-yard touchdown run gave New England a 14-0 lead.

Tate’s 64-yard touchdown reception gave the Giants life and the fumble return touchdown by Golden tied the game at 14-14 with 4:38 left in the second quarter. Tate caught six passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in his second game back from suspension.

The Patriots would answer with a 10-play, 75-yard drive to close out the first half as Brady scored from a yard out to take a 21-14 lead into the break.

Van Noy’s 22-yard fumble return touchdown with 8:33 left to play appeared to be enough to seal the deal for the Patriots and Brady’s second 1-yard touchdown run served as the cherry on top of the Patriots victory.

  1. Matthew slater needs to get a life. This guy always runs close to the guy catching a punt or the punter, he’s like Kyle korver in the NBA who stands at the three point line cherry picking

  2. This game’s outcome was never in doubt. I love this defense so much!

Pats have a defense like this a decade ago and Brady probably has at least 8 rings by now. Wow!

  3. As bad as Brady was, the Pats overall looked good on a short week.

God bless the D and Special Teams.

Nice to see Brady trust Izzo, Meyers and Olezcewski.

    So, that’s an improvement.

  4. Defense looks formidable but the offense doesn’t do anything well.. run game suspect, o line vulnerable, weak at TE, question marks at wide receiver and a few off throws from brady at the start, no faith in the kicker. Wonder what AB thinks when he looks at this team knowing they are 6-0 and he texted his way out of being a clear no1 wide receiver on the SB favourites

  5. Nice win although it was sloppy in the first half from the offense. Brady was off until the 4th quarter when Meyers was starting to click. Defense was unstoppable and could have picked the td pass Jones threw. Jets will put up less of a fight than the Giants did. Go Pats!

  6. The game was a lot closer than anyone thought because the Patriots’ offense is impotent right now. Tho O-line stinks! Glad to see Brady trusting Izzo and Meyers more. Hopefully, they get the stagnant offense figured out soon. These games are way too close for comfort…

  7. Aikman said this game was much closer than the score. Not sure which game he was watching.

Never in doubt at any time.

Meyers had 2 great catches and Izzo has great hands. Injuries tonight forced Brady to include those 2 guys and they performed!
It will be interesting to see if Harry is one of the players brought back from the IR…

  10. Didn’t expect an upset, but nice to see the Giants keep the Pats honest for most of the first 3 quarters – especially without Barkley, Engram, Gallman, and Shepard. G-men didn’t embarrass themselves tonight, even though the Pats covered that big spread.

  11. Patriots legit or just playing garbage teams? A W is a W, but they haven’t faced a single great team yet, so it is hard for anyone outside of New England to sing their praises when every W is a gimme.

  12. “Patriots defense continues to shine in 35-14 win over Giants”
    ———————–

OK, so the Patriots defense did a good job against a Rookie QB playing without his top three offensive playmakers (Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepherd and Evan Engram)…I know that teams can only play the opponents on their schedule…but they have beaten one team with a winning record and have yet to face a good offense…Steelers, Dolphins, Jets, Bills, Redskins ,Giants…none of those offenses are higher than 21st in the NFL…and the Redskins, Jets and Dolphins are the 30, 31, 32…it would be almost impossible not to “shine” against that competition…

  13. In their first 6 games the Patriots have gone against the 6:worst qbs in the nfl. Lol. Overrated defense and offense. After watching tonight’s game, the Patriots will get destroyed by the top teams with a competent qb.

  14. With the injuries the offense is learning on the fly and getting players experience. 6-0 with time to heal up and then a bye week coming soon, players returning. The Patriots will be OK. That defense will give the Patriots the leeway they need to get things sorted out. They always start slowly and then turn it up later in the year.

  15. I can’t tell the difference between Danny Dimes or Eli Manning , it all looks the same. Jone has been getting worse every week , could be time to go back to the Vet.

  16. Matthew slater needs to get a life. This guy always runs close to the guy catching a punt or the punter, he’s like Kyle korver in the NBA who stands at the three point line cherry picking

that’s his job. he’s made a whole career out of it. awww yeah

  17. Aikman commented that the game was much closer than the final score indicated.

    Huh?

If Nugent makes the FG (add 3), the Patriots opt to try a FG when it was 4th and 5 from the NYG 32 (rather than turn it over on downs)(add possible 3). And if the Pats scored a TD on the last drive rather than run out the clock with 1st and G from the NYG 10 …

48-14 could have been the final.

    Yeah, tight one.

  18. The game was close for a while because Park Avenue made sure the refs knew they wanted to keep their national TV audience into the second half. That and the fact that the Giants defense just cheats constantly. They weren’t just tackling. They were tackling guys trying to set them up for injury. They hold constantly. Shurmur is way too emotional to be a head coach. having said that, the Patriots are literally without more than half their starting offense. I’ve heard nothing but sympathy for the Giants all week because they were missing a few guys. At least they have healthy offensive and defensive lines. When your lines are healthy and playing well, average players at the skill positions can look very good. It doesn’t work the other way around. how the Patriots ran so many plays in gained over 400 yards is a mystery to me. They’re one of the top rated offenses but it’s a bit of a mirage. They have a great deal of trouble getting the receivers open, at least the ones they have healthy, and the blocking for the running game and any pass play that takes more than two seconds is very questionable. They have almost no cap room to make trades and adjust. I predict Michael Bennett will be traded just to get his salary off the books to make salary cap space, and the Patriots will trade draft picks to another team to bring in help for the offense. They may trade for multiple players from multiple teams. The Super Bowl window is still open. They have to take advantage of it. Who knows what will happen in the future.

I wish some blockbuster evidence would come out clearing AB and he came back and played AND kept his mouth shut for the rest of the season and just baLled out. That situation was too good to be true I guess.

  19. The Pats are either very very good or great every year, but why is it that they play nobody in 2019?

  20. What is the record of the Pats opponents? Leave out the Bills who haven’t beaten a winning team it is laughable. They will get a bye for the playoffs but they aren’t very good. I would say they are like the Packers. Smart QB, good defense but lacking play makers. Get to the playoffs and anything can happen when you have a QB.

Daniel Jones can throw a great ball – very accurate – much better than Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

    —————–

I would say at worse he is Flacco, not sure what his best could be.

  22. Pats fan, but I think DJ is going to be very good. He ran into one of the best defenses ever and despite that still had some good throws. Giants will be able to build around him.

  23. “As bad as Brady was,”

Brady was 31-41 for 336 yards and 2 rushing tds

And completed 15 passes in a row to start the 3rd Q.

That’s “bad” Only 10 out of 41 passes go incomplete
    So now

    Smh

  24. QB Daniel Jones was atrocious last night completing just 48.4% of his passes w/ 1TD to 3INT’s (2 more dropped) & a pathetic 35.2 QB Passer Rating despite being sacked just 1 time. Between his 6INTs & 3 Fumbles lost Jones has turned the ball over 9 freaking times in just 4 starts, that’s wayyyyy to many turnovers for even a rookie QB. Jones has had multiple turnovers in every single game he has started which is unacceptable for the 6th overall pick in the draft. Jones has been terrible against good defenses only playing well against bad defenses. If you don’t count Jones first game appearance against Dallas (where he threw only 4 passes in the final seconds of the game) he has a QB passer rating of just 72.9 and it’s gone down significantly basically getting cut in half every week since his starting debut.

If i’m a New York Giants fan i’m starting to get worried and question if Daniel Jones is the guy going forward as his play has gotten worse and worse ever since he made his starting debut & his ball security is a massive issue. A lot of the concerns scouts, draftniks & fans had about Jones pre-draft are showing up more & more getting worse by the week. If Daniel Jones keeps getting worse & not better the Giants might want to think about firing Shurmur and bringing in an offensive coach known for their work w/ young QB’s ( I realize Shurmur is to he’s just not very good at it) & who are known for developing young QB’s. Shurmur has never been a consistent winner over his career, if Jones doesn’t start showing improvement against AVG to good defenses I’d really think about bringing in top QB developer to develop Daniel Jones.

  25. The defense is definitely playing together and making things happen to win games. Nobody seems to be talking about just how poorly the offense is playing in the red zone. The TD rate is abismal, and that’s before getting into review of the kicking game (or the turnovers and stops).

    =============================

100% agree. That defense is extremely fun to watch and the front 7 & back-end compliment each other so nicely. Though not special the Patriots front 7 is really really good but on the back-end the secondary is one of the best most complete unit’s i’ve seen and Belicheck has those guys playing to perfection. I love CB Stephen Gilmore, that dude is a baller and has grown a lot since leaving Buffalo.

My worry for the Patriots though is that offensive line. The Patriots offensive line could keep them from winning another Super-Bowl this season as their OT situation is atrocious right now due to the injuries they’ve suffered up front losing their starting Center in David Andrews and lost their starting LT Isiah Wynn. The Patriots traded for OT Korey Cunningham who’s dissapointed thus far though he could improve with more time in that system. The leaves NE starting two back-up caliber OT’s in Marshall Newhouse and Marcus Cannon, the system & Bradys play hide a lot of their deficiencies but both are not good at all. The Giants pass rush is bad yet they managed consistent pressure on Brady last night. If the OL doesn’t improve the elite pass rushs around the NFL will be able to really get after Brady come January in the playoffs which is how you beat Brady, if they can’t get it fixed and fast the line could keep NE from another Super Bowl this year.

  27. Despite Pats having the injuries pile up, starting slow on offense, not trusting their placekicker, having an offensive line that is neither blocking for the run nor protecting Brady well, and giving up two big scoring plays, the Patriots won by 21 and dominated every team statistic.

Give the Giants credit for playing hard. After one of the two turnovers on fourth down a Giant defender went to the sidelines not hurt but physically sick from exhaustion.

Jones threw some great balls, especially to Tate, but the Pats D was almost always on the receiver like stink on a skunk. Even on Tate’s TD Jonathan Jones was there but it was a perfect throw and Tate kept control of a bouncing ball at full speed.

The Pats D and defensive special teams are insanely good. When the Giants wire down Edelman, Myers and the other rookie receiver whose name I can’t spell (Olszewski?) got open. Brady ran it a number of times himself (once their rookie fullback got hurt) very effectively on the goal line and needing key first downs.

Some want to keep focusing on what the Pats didn’t do well but there D only gave up 7 points and it took a perfect throw and catch. The fact is that the Pats play to win.

  28. Not hard to look great on defense when your first 6 games are against the 27-32 offense’s in the league. Great start to the season for New England, but let’s not get carried away here.

  29. First time I ever seen a punter kick the ball off the back of his own teammate’s back. He was standing way too close to the line of scrimmage. Elementary mental mistake.

Pats have a mediocre O line. It may ultimately cost them another Super Bowl win.

  30. The Patriots at minimum should win 14 games this year. 7 games against NYJ, MIA, Wash, NYG, and Cincy. KC and Dallas at home with a win at home already against the Steelers w/Ben. At Philly and Houston(maybe) toughest road test.

The schedule is what it is because its not the Pats fault some of these teams are absolute trash, but this has to be the easiest path to home field advantage ever

    Really? Absolutely NEVER in doubt?

Aikman is right. The game WAS much closer than the score.

Take those away and it’s 21-14 late into the game.

The NE offense Eventually wore out the Giants D. But they were lucky their special teams and defense made so many plays.

  32. 3 GAMES IN 10 DAYS..

thats absurd if youre 0-5 or 5-0. Great game plan by the giants. I think it might’ve been ugly had we got that 1st down on 4th and 1. too close to call a first down or turnover.

Our offensive line couldnt stop a nose bleed right now. Isaah Wynn cant go back soon enough!!!

Good game to the Giants. I like it when we play you with Eli on the sideline 🙂 Daniel Jones looks good.

  33. Matthew slater needs to get a life. This guy always runs close to the guy catching a punt or the punter, he’s like Kyle korver in the NBA who stands at the three point line cherry pickin

    ___________________________________________-

Says the guy whose own city was burning after MY BRUINS hoisted Lord stanley. LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS. every team crowds the returner

  34. I am eager to see these Patriots play an actual NFL QB led offense that won’t spot them 14 points on giveaways. Brady just looks mediocre at this point. I think a few teams in the NFC would roll them: the Saints, Packers, Seahawks, and Eagles just to name a few.

They’d be a wildcard team in the NFC, at best, but they will finish with 12+ wins with that schedule. I’m not hating, just what my eyes tell me.

  35. It’s quite obvious the referees are in on the “let’s keep the New England defense elite” story. So many penalties on the New England defense that weren’t flagged. Kraft sure does have the officials paid off.

  36. Meyers – Rookie
    Izzo – Rookie
    Olzewskiziweski – Rookie
I think there may be an explanation for the “offense doesn’t do anything well”

    Michel – 2nd year
    Boldin – 5th choice RB
    O-line vulnerable
I think there might be a reason the run game is suspect

Mike Nugent – 37 years old, 8th team in the NFL, picked up a week ago
There’s a good reason no faith in the kicker

Yet they’re 6-0. Surely a team like that should have lost 1 or 2 games? SMDH

Take away the Giants strip fumble return and its 21-7 late in the game. Pats were far from dominant but it your going to play that “what if” game play it on both sides

  39. It wasn’t pretty,Brady and the offense didn’t look so hot,but it’s a W. The schedule ahead is what’s worrying. Yes,the Pats are 6-0,the defense is stout, but they still haven’t played a good team.

  40. TWO DEFENSIVE scores result in a victory about 99% of the time.

    ____

And the giants defensive TD, how does that factor in to your equation? Since you decided to subtract the pats defensive scores out, if we do the same for the NY, the score is 21-7. Still not close, particularly because NY was not moving the ball.

  41. Some of these commenters are ridiculous. Yeah, if you take away all the points the Pats scored and leave in the lucky points the Giants scored on a well-defended lucky bobbled catch and a fluky fumble return TD the Giants would have had a chance. Brady was off-rhythm because his o-line (including his tight end Izzo) can’t block anyone in either the run or pass game, and he’s throwing to Edelman and a bunch of roomies who weren’t even playing receiver most of their college careers. Hope Gordon isn’t too hurt and they make a move for another receiver, because with Dorsett out they are paper-thin at receiver. It’s amazing Brady put up the numbers he did with that cast around him.

  42. Pats schedule from 10/27 to 12/8:
    Browns
    Ravens
    Eagles
    Cowboys
    Texans
    Chiefs
Then on 12/22 they play Buffalo again

All of those teams are currently 1st or 2nd in their division.

Pittsburgh was supposed to be good, but they arent.

Bet we still hear complaints about the schedule even after all those games as well….

Patriots didn’t look bad on offense for a team with a lot of injuries at key positions that matter. Including at K who arguably cost the team 9 points.

If reports are true that injuries forced them to use one personnel set for an entire half then I thought they looked impressive actually- especially in the second half.

    Not worried about the offense.

  49. Reminder: this defense allowed a grand total of 3 points in 3 of 4 halfs of football against the high powered Chiefs and Rams at the beginning of 2019. Plus 3 points to Big Ben and his team.

Don’t bring those trash “weak competition“ takes here. This D is legit and opponents fear them. Rightfully so.

  50. Great defense? Well, we don’t really know yet. Pats have played Pittsburg, Miami, the Jets without their QB, Washington, and the Giants–the last 4 are probably the 4 worst teams in the NFL and Pittsburg hasn’t been good this year. I’ll answer for him, yes it starts with a formula. It is then manually manipulated due to ratings and other variables. For instance, the Eagles have 3 road games in a row because the NFL thought the trash Phillies would be deep into the post season at this point. If you don’t believe me you can look it up.I’m not saying NE was given an easy schedule or any favoritism, I’m just saying let’s not pretend these games are being assigned at random. Any other team playing the schedule the Pats have played would have a defense that appears to be lights out.

    Again
This is the SAME D (WIth a few added players ) that held the Rams to 3 points and held the Chiefs scoreless for the first Half

And they just aren’t stopping these teams they are dominating them

  57. Patriots fans be like….”well we (thinking they are on the Patriots) didn’t create the schedule…h”

Patriots fans be like “well has played an easy schedule, they are pretenders…..and you’re a hater!”

    LOL

  58. As for Jones… looked green because he is…but he’s a keeper. Giants will do well to heal up themselves and build around him.

  59. People that hate the Patriots seem to all have this shared amnesia. Suddenly Big Ben didn’t play week one? He may be one of the worst people in the league but on the field he’s definitely not one of the worst QB’s.

You’d think this was the inaugural season of the NFL the way people talk about the Pats never facing a challenge. 6-0 defending champions….But let’s withhold judgment until they’ve shown something…k

  60. Patriots defense shut out the Chiefs in the first half in a conference championship game in their own house.

Don’t tell Patriot Hater that! 🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫

  61. Yes we realize they do not pick their schedule. We are also smart enough to realize declaring the Patriots defense as absolutely killer after looking at who they have gone up against is wishful thinking at its best, and sheer stupidity at its worst.

It’s called realism, and Pat’s fans should try it.

  62. Honestly, 5 of the teams they have beaten have been lousy this year. But here are the scores:
    Pitts 33-3
    Dolphins 43-0
    Jets 30-14
    Redskins 33-7
    Giants 35-14

Not exactly close games. Thats what good teams do, they beat the bad teams easily. If these games had been all 1 score games, maybe you can call them out.

By the way, 3 of those teams arent from the AFC East. Looks like the NFC East is pretty bad as is the AFC North (Cincy). Bet we still hear about the east being the worst division in sports again all season though…..

The defense is definitely playing together and making things happen to win games. Nobody seems to be talking about just how poorly the offense is playing in the red zone. The TD rate is abismal, and that’s before getting into review of the kicking game (or the turnovers and stops).
    ==============================

Are you talking about the Patriots offense dude? If you are I agree. The Patriots defense is elite in every sense of the word but the offense is struggling right now leaving a lot to be desired. The Giants defense isn’t good at all, it’s one of the leagues worst, the Patriots problems last night were all of their own making pretty much & the heavy wind was really affecting a lot of Brady’s passes.
Offensively the Patriots offensive line is causing them a lot of issues w/ two bad starting tackles and a backup Center in. The Giants pass rush is atrocious yet NE”s OT’s seem to struggle to stop it at times. Brady is also badly missing his play makers, losing Brown, Josh Gordon & N’Keal Harry to injury so early in the season is slowing that offense and NE really missing the explosive play making abilities of Gronk in the passing game. Brady doesn’t really have any weapons right now outside of Julian Edelman and the young TE Izzo. The Patriots offense wasn’t really slowed by the Giants, the Patriots are just struggling right now due to those issues. The Patriots will get their play makers back healthy though & I expect that offense to really start clicking over the 2nd half of the season once they some more help around Brady.

Not hard to look great on defense when your first 6 games are against the 27-32 offense’s in the league. Great start to the season for New England, but let’s not get carried away here.
    ————————————————-

6 & 0 is 6 & 0. I dont care who they’ve played this is still the NFL it is incredibly hard to win 6 straight games in this league. And go look at the scores, the Patriots have blown out every team they have played and they’ve done it with 3 back-up OL men and without 3-4 of their top receiving weapons in the majority of those games. They’ve stomped the bad teams they’ve played, that’s what good teams do.

As bad as Brady was, the Pats overall looked good on a short week.

God bless the D and Special Teams.

Nice to see Brady trust Izzo, Meyers and Olezcewski.

    So, that’s an improvement.
    ————–

Ha! One of these days you will actually watch a game. Brady took over the game in the 4th with shear determination to win- without a single person to throw to.

Izzo, Meyers and Gunner O aren’t even NFL level players- if they are out there catching passes that spells lack of talent.

Izzo couldn’t block Betty White at this point and Michel is averaging like 3yds per carry and can’t get any short yardage. A (supposedly) #1 pick who can’t get a yard on consecutive carries?

C’mon Bill get the man someone to throw to!

  67. I know I’m going to get 100 thumbs down from Patriot fans, and trust me when I tell you I’m not a Patriot hater. As a Ravens fan I actually respect their organization. Belichick helped get Harbaugh the job in Baltimore. I have to say though, I think this defense is a little overrated. Last night I saw a lot of holding, grabbing, and clutching from their DBs throughout most of that game that wasn’t called. I know DBs do a lot of holding in general, but this was more than what I consider normal. The refs were completely ignoring it. Almost as if they had in their minds that this was the best D in football and wasn’t even looking for it. I do think they’re coached well and tackle well, but I think that a good QB with good wideouts/TEs can expose this D. I don’t think as a whole, they’re anywhere near as good as the 16 – 0 team. Doesn’t mean they can’t win it all. With Belichick and Brady, I never count them out.

  68. Just to point out, those were quality wins against the Steelers and Bills. The Steelers had Ben in that one and you know Tomlin spent all offseason preparing for this game. Even after losing Ben, the Steelers played Seattle and San Fran tough. Those teams are starting to look awfully good. They forced 5 turnovers against a 49er club that looked disciplined against the Browns.

The Bills may have a very special defense.

Meyers isn’t NFL caliber? When did this happen? Was like in 2010 and 2011 when Edelman wasn’t “NFL caliber” too?

    lmao

There is nothing difficult about seeing Gunnar run a route into a zone and being wide open in that zone.

Brady throws it to him and he catches it. I watched the game. I am just not a moronic Nrady homer who is in his early 20s not really understanding the sport, because I’ve been watching this sport since the early 80s, not in the last 15 years only where I think it has to be a video game.

We heard the same garbage last year about Dorsett isn’t an NFL caliber WR, and so and so sucks and this and that.

Just because these guys aren’t all stars, doesn’t mean they can’t play. IN his first year, Izzo is getting open and making nice catches, too. I don’t know what game you’re watching.

Brady holds the ball too long and stands back there bobbing up and down like a moron because he’s so used to being so spoiled, when he stares down Edelman or there is no Gronk who is 6’7 and a target with a jump ball, Brady needs to be better. Period.

He’s been generally mediocre or uneven now for 3 straight games, if not 4, actually.

McDaniels continues to show he is overrated.

It’s a GOOD thing to force Brady into using the talent around him, as opposed to him being a snob pretending he is entitled to all star WRS and TEs because of who he is.

This is why Stidham is there. At any time, Brady an develop that attitude and just check out like he did earlier before BB drafted Garoppolo.

The INT Brady threw up the middle to a wide open Edelman was ATROCIOUS.

He was wide open! he was late and lofting balls with no authority. The incompletion to the strong side at the 1 yard line where Edelman had to wait was also a failed TD. Poor throw. Soft and late.

  70. This could be that elusive undefeated year for the Pats. Aside from KC and maybe Houston, there isn’t a good team on their schedule (not the Pats fault). As for the potential Super Bowl match-up, I don’t see an NFC team capable of beating them.

Disclaimer: Not what I’m hoping for, just what I see.

  71. They should not have released Brown so precipitously. Remember how we all thought Tyreek Hill was done. We were SURE of it.

Matthew Slater is the last guy you should be questioning this guy is a perennial pro bowler.

I think if you read his entire comment not just the one sentence you isolated you will see it was a complimentary homage to Slater, not a rip on him.

  73. When the Patriots are not flagged for defensive holding and/or PI which the replay clearly shows and the replay official doesn’t even see it, yes, the teams defense has to be good.

  74. Dak has a losing record against winning teams, and he’s never won a division title, and he’s never led the league in TD’s or yards, but there are people are out there that think that guy is top 5…Aaron Rodgers won/loss record on the road is .500, and he’s only won 1 Superbowl to Brady’s 6, but there are people out there that still think he’s better than Brady…..Drew Brees has thrown over 50 more interceptions than Brady over the same number of games, and he also has only won the Superbowl once in his career, and he plays in a dome, and there are people out there that think he’s better than Brady….Mahomes is supposed to be the next Messiah yet the guy has already failed his first test. He had the Divisional Title game at home and he lost. Sure he doesn’t play defense but if you wanna argue that then give Brady back his 3 Superbowl losses because the Patriots lost those 3 games because the defense failed to get that last stop….Brady all day every day!!

Patriots legit or just playing garbage teams? A W is a W, but they haven’t faced a single great team yet, so it is hard for anyone outside of New England to sing their praises when every W is a gimme.

  77. Hoping the Pats O-Line gets healthier as it was rough last night. Aside from two decent runs the rush game was non existent which hampers the variety of plays they can run. But its October and the Pats have taken care of business. They never hit their peak till the end of the year. Winning despite their flaws is not a bad thing early in the season.

    ———————

Meyers- so we are supposed to wait 4 years for Meyers to develop like Edelman? That’s the plan for this years window? Meyers will most likely be cut if they bring back Harry off IR

Dorsett? Dorsett is a great #4 receiver, below average #3, and not even remotely a #1 or #2

“McDaniels continues to show he is overrated.” Silly comment beyond belief

Brady has thrown to more receivers than just about every other QB- eight different guys in the Wash. game.- forcing ANY QB to throw to lesser talent is recipe for a loss. The Steelers lost Bell and Brown in subsequent years and still have better offensive talent than the Pats.

Stidham isn’t Jimmy G- he’s no threat to Brady, and most likely will be gone at the end of the rookie deal like most of Brady’s backups.

Izzo “open and making nice catches”? He has 4 catches in 6 games. He is a Tight End- you know the position that requires run blocking and pass protection. He can not block anyone- he literally gets bowled over every single blocking attempt, or whiffs completely. The Pats have 0 tight ends.

Sony Michel has failed more 3rd or 4th and 1 conversions than any first round back I have ever seen- dating back to last year.

Gordon?- He can’t play anymore, and were betting on a guy who hasn’t played a complete season since 2013?

Some of this is due to injuries, but most is due to Bill ignoring Offensive talent for the second year in a row.

It’s possible to love what Bill has done, but also be critical in others.

But since you are a “Millenial” I guess you won’t get that!

    “As bad as Brady was,”

Brady was 31-41 for 336 yards and 2 rushing tds

And completed 15 passes in a row to start the 3rd Q.

That’s “bad” Only 10 out of 41 passes go incomplete
    So now

    Smh

    ———————–

Haters need to convince themselves that Brady is getting old and playing terrible. It’s the only way they sleep at night. The rest of us should just enjoy the ride and watch them whine.

Pats offense did ok last year despite losing their prior season’s WR1, left tackle and RB1, also lots of RB injuries, lost Edelman for 4 games, lost most talented receiver 2/3 thru season, down years from Gronk and Hogan…. And for the last two seasons his second most consistent pass catcher has been a running back.

It’s weird to think of Brady as a TE and WR snob. There just isn’t proof.
