Dolphins bench Josh Rosen for Ryan Fitzpatrick

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores proclaimed last week that Josh Rosen was the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. That lasted less than one game.

Trailing 17-3 in the fourth quarter today against Washington, Miami benched Rosen in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Rosen had been terrible all day, completing 15 of 25 passes for just 85 yards, throwing two interceptions and getting sacked five times. And Fitzpatrick promptly marched the Dolphins down the field for a touchdown. So you could certainly say Flores made the right call.

But benching Rosen just after anointing him the undisputed starter makes the Dolphins look incompetent. Miami may be the worst team in the league, but they at least ought to have a coherent strategy for getting better. It appeared that trying to develop Rosen for the future was part of that strategy, but apparently not.

  1. He’s a bust at this point there’s nothing wrong with simply admitting that the kid wasn’t all that he was hyped up to be

  2. Maybe this is their plan of developing. Rosen is the starter all year but if hes playing so horrible no one is improving you bring in Fitz hoping to continue to develop the others and let Rosen shake it off, watch Fitz and head to next week. Not saying it’s a great plan just that it could be the plan.

  3. “Rosen had been terrible all day,”

Yet when say Lamar Jackson or Kyler Murray put out similar or worse performances it is everyone else’s fault. Rosen plays bad with ome of the worst supporting casts in the NFL and the same defenders of others can’t wait to hop online and denigrate the young man…..

Boohoo…. Allen had the exact same situation last year but still showed potential. Not blaming Rosen cause he hasn’t gotten a fair shake and if they draft Tua they’ll be in a world of stink for the next 5 years. Seeing how Rosen responds to this will say a lot.

What? You do know that Rosen has started 16 games now, and has never thrown for more than 252 yards in any of them right? In 11 of them he hasn’t even cracked 200 yards.

Meanwhile Kyler Murray has started five games and has passed for 241 yards or more in 4 of the 5, including two over 300. Not to mention his running ability.

In other words, Kyler Murray has in his 5 games has already surpassed the best days of Rosen in 16 games. Similar or worse, ROFL.

  6. But, but, but! They just said this week that he was the QB for the season. That didn’t last long!

  7. “Boohoo…. Allen had the exact same situation last year but still showed potential”

Bills were a much better team last season than the Fins are this year.

  8. Rosen is trash. I know he has been on bad teams for his year and a half in the league, but he is showing ZERO improvement. He is NOT the answer. Miami still needs a QB (among a whole laundry list of other needs)

  9. How can you judge Rosen with the supporting cast around him? He was getting creamed the entire game.
Give the kid a chance all season and if he does not improve then you know what you have.

  10. Love watching fins fans argue about how much they hate or defend Rosen while thinking Chris Grier never receives blame for his mess only praise. Being a fan of a team means being blind when they ask you to be. Joe Montana couldn’t pass for 150 yards with this team.

  11. OL looked ok in front of Fitz. Can’t blame them all the time. At least Rosen is getting some first hand experience.
