Patriots adding another tight end

As the world continues to wonder whether Rob Gronkowski will come back, the Patriots are adding another tight end to a room that misses him.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Patriots are signing former Giants and Jets tight end Eric Tomlinson.

The Patriots have also signed veteran Ben Watson, after Matt LaCosse‘s knee injury left them with one healthy tight end to finish the game last week.

Tomlinson spent time with the Eagles and Texans as well, then latched on for three years with the Jets. The Giants claimed him off waivers this year and he spent a month there.

  1. I wouldn’t be shocked to see LaCosse outright released & now maybe even Izzo as well ( or maybe back to practice squad)…..
With Ben Watson As the starter & now this monster of a man in run blocker, Tomlinson(6’6” 260) I see the Pats attempting to get ready for the bad weather that will be coming their way soon enough…..
LaCosse is GLASS & Izzo can’t block a senior using a walker so I’d be fine with them going away…..

Given the Pats are 6-0 despite the most banged-up & depleted offense Brady’s ever had, you are right to correct yourself – not that it takes an expert to figure an 8-ring coach is a genius.

Yes Tuck Rule was a genius move! Spygate was a genius move! Signing Antonio Brown was a genius move! BB is only as good as his players. Without LT and TB, he doesn’t have any SB rings. Look at his stint in Cleveland as evidence.

  4. One of the highest graded, if not the highest, run blocking TEs in the NFL. Remember Alge Crumpler, that type of run blocking TEs. So yes it is a “genius move” when injuries to the offensive line has limited your running game. Do you have anymore nostradamous type predictions about who will beat the Patriots? Your last ones made you look like suchadumbarse.

  5. @rogergoodellmyhero – yes look at his Cleveland stint, he turned a losing franchise into a playoff winner in 1994 and started off 1995 even better until Modell pulled the plug on it all. As for the Tuck Rule the first team to benefit from that was the Jets – in a narrow win over the Pats (which ironically gave Jets a wildcard berth visiting – the Raiders!). Spygate was, even if you accept Fraudger’s re-interpretation of Tagliabue’s new rule, merely 15mins of a camera a few yards too close to the field after the new (somewhat vague) rules came into force. And signing Antonio Brown happened the day before all the allegations broke, and they released him the day after the texting – you can’t blame Belichick for that one. I note you omit deflategate, but then the NFL admitted to Judge Berman they had no evidence.

  6. The Pats desperately want Gronk to badly come back.
They’re sending him a signal by signing every tight end on the street right now.

  7. While you are at it, go look at some of the greatest coaches of all time “stints” on other teams they coached. Lombardi, Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, Walsh (at Stanford), and tell us, suchadumbarse, how many superbowls they won.

  8. So, in your mind, is Quinn still a good coach? How about Pederson? McVay? Not to mention all the worst to first, first to worst coaches. When Garrett won coach of the year and then proceeded to be a failure the next season.
Two decades of being relevant in the NFL supercedes any idiotic comment coming out of your mouth.

Wow I’ve managed to get two Patriots fanboys panties in a bunch already.

11-5 to 5-11 is not improvement. Try again fanboy.

Let me guess. Barry Switzer is one of your All Time Greatest NFL coaches.

Nope, my best guess for All Time Greatest NFL coaches is mikespillane337. He knows all and BB should be calling him and not Ernie Adams.

  11. rogergoodellmyhero – so you come on here to bellyache some more and then you act all proud when people respond to you. Why do you need the Pats fans to give you attention? I bet when you post on the Colts boards nobody responds to you so you come here to get that fix. I have known plenty like you. You probably brag that you got some “thumbs up” too. Also, Tuck Rule was a rule and called correctly. That was in January 2002. Were you even old enough to remember the play?

  12. Posters that dedicate their lives to trolling the Pats should at least try to be clever or original. Bring something interesting or new to the table. You’re boring me. Amazing some people live for this.

If you’re talking to me, which you are but let’s not pretend you’re not, then I must give you a purpose in life. I’m not boring you, I am giving you a reason to live. When I stop talking I’ll be reading your obituary.

LMAO I’ve managed to turn the 2nd half of the comment section all about me. I am so in the heads of Patriots fanboys and homers.
    ————————–

You do not quite understand how this works. If you do not post on here nobody responds to you or brings you up. You have to insert yourself into this post so you are recognized and get attention. This planet that your are from, how close to the sun are we talking? David Mathers, is this you?

  15. Makes sense to get another big TE, since brady cant throw down the field anymore. Against the Giants 30th ranked passing defense, he could only muster a pick, with (as always) half of his completed passes going to rbs behind the line of scrimmage. Imagine what the true goat could do with a real functioning qb instead of a game manager!!
