Jalen Ramsey expresses desire to stay with Rams “for years and years to come”

New Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has yet to speak to reporters in L.A. However, he did speak via his 17 Weeks podcast commitment, produced by Lebron James’ and Maverick Carter’s Uninterrupted (except when the topic of China comes up) and SiriusXM/Pandora.

“I’m checking in after a huge, I mean, big, big day for me,” Ramsey said. “Been traded from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the L.A. Rams. I’m currently just walking outside right now, I’m filled with joy. I’m overjoyed right now. God is the greatest. God makes no mistakes at all. No mistakes at all. I’ve been so blessed.

“I was so blessed to be drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, fifth overall pick, but now I have a new chapter starting in my life. Going out to L.A., going to be a part of the L.A. Rams. Excited to be a part of that defense. Coach Wade Phillips. Coach Sean McVay. Coach Aubrey Pleasant. I’m excited to get out there and do my thing for the L.A. Rams and show them that they got the best corner in the whole NFL for years and years to come.”

That last statement implies that Ramsey intends to remain with the Rams indefinitely, which doesn’t mesh with Deion Sanders’ prediction that Ramsey’s stay in L.A. could be short. Regardless, a new contract eventually will have to be negotiated — and Ramsey currently has all the leverage.

Which could be one of the reasons why he’s “filled with joy.”

Ramsey also seems to be filled with healing. Traded only two days after he missed his third straight game with a back injury, the back hasn’t been mentioned at all as Ramsey prepares to presumably join his new team for Sunday’s game at Atlanta.

  1. I wonder if Einstein knows he went from a state with zero income tax to one that taxes everything?

“…as long as they pay me more money than anybody else.”

What else would you expect from a guy who shows up to TC in an armored Brinks truck? AB showed up in a balloon, and we all know how fitting that was for a guy just full of hot air.

  3. seams to be forgetting the, most important, part “as long as they pay me $20 million a year.”

He will stay in LA as long as they pay him the money, best guess he ends up on the Raiders in 2021.

Franchise Tag. Whatever “leverage” you thought you had just evaporated, or you can try the Le’Veon Bell move and sit out a year and lose out $15m that you’ll NEVER get back…

Living in L.A. vs living in Jacksonville … yeah, I’ll pay WHATEVER you want.

  6. Said the same thing about the Jaguars at the beginning of the year. Cant trust the word of a guy who will lie about the severity of an injury just to get traded.

  7. Here’s how I see this going. At the end of the year, the Rams will offer him a contract that will make him the highest-paid corner ever. He’ll say, “no, I want Mack/Donald type money” (it’s about an 8 million dollar difference). The Rams will hit him with the franchise tag and this will turn into a nightmare.

No way. They used two 1st round picks. If he sits they’ll fold fast. They cannot risk losing those two picks to have him sit and end up elsewhere.

Every player says things like that until the team starts losing.

The Rams just got embarrassed by the Forty Niners, and it wasn’t their defense that was the problem. Their offense couldn’t do anything agaisnt the Niners defense. It was laughably pathetic or the Rams part.

There is WAY more to life than tax rates.

As a 20+ year resident of Santa Monica, gone now four years, I’d move back in a flash.

Agreed…however, you are talking about millions of $$$. Could be a couple mil a year.

FL has no tax on income. CA, at his rate, would be taxed at 37%. Which means, that if he gets $20/year, he’ll roughly take home around $15mil.

  12. I’m pretty sure EVERYONE in Jax is glad to be rid of this guy. I wonder how long it will take for the Rams to realize they made a big mistake by trading for him.

  13. Ramsey showed his lack of any character by faking injury and screwing over his team mates. And now the Rams have demonstrated what kind of organization they are by acquiring him.

  14. I hope the Rams realize he is a 10-game rental
If he doesn’t get a 5/90 contract offer with 60 guarantee, he’s holding out
It could be less than 10 games depending on his “back”

  15. The rams or charges can fill there stadium with a home crowd. What would want to play there?

  16. The NFL should investigate his back injury. There has to be medical information from a board certified doctor, not inline with his agent, that will support his injury history, regarding his back.

Jacksonville should file a grievance to recoup money, and any additional monies for this lie.

Sorry buddy boy,but L.A. is the sewer

  18. Rams trying to win now because they have a new stadium being built. This is backfiring on them in my opinion. They need an offensive line but now will have to hope they hit on later round draft picks since they keep mortgaging the future. They’re also in cap hell and their stadium is generally filled with opposing team fans. That’s what happens when you leave for 20 years. I see storm clouds on the horizon for this squad.

  19. You read that quote wrong guys… he’s saying he’ll be the best corner in the NFL for years and years to come… not that he’ll be a Ram for years and years to come. Re-read that.

NOT to mention wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides… um yeah no thanks!
